ok, the lemonade thread has prompted me to ask does anyone else have any clever and legal ways to pinch pennies, like the guy did with the lemonade?.

Turn off and unplug any electrical appliances when they aren't in use. Dont' have your place lit up like a airport runway strip, if you aren't in a room, turn off the light.
Also turn appliances OFF not to standby. Walk around the house & look at all those little red lights telling you "wasting power".
Replace incandescent lights with the new fluoro types: you can get compact fluoros now that replace those little halogen lamps that eat power.

an australian on an american domestic flight was taken aside and questioned because of an incident.. the australian lady requested something salty like pretzels on an american domestic flight.
the stewartess thought she was swearing when she replied 'fair dinkum '.when the stewardesss said they had no pretzels.. just saw it on the tv tonight.. come to think of it havent herd the queen saying fair dinkum lately..

Fair dinkum, I nearly cacked myself at that definintion.
Incidentally, my wife (who goes to meeting....I never have been through the door) tells me that a young guy was counselled over the use of the word "cacked" in a talk as being "inappropriate". I nearly cacked myself laughing at that....

Winter is pretty mild - here in the mountains it goes to -2 C at night and up to 10 C through the day, although Sydney has been in the low 20's. The downside of the mountains is the wind - blowing a gale for a week at a time making you feel cold & not inclined to go outdoors. Yes, looking forward to spring - the garden is starting to wake up - daffodils & jonquils out and the flowering cherries are getting ready to flower.
Now all I need is a digital camera.......

On what Ozziepost said, have a look at the information from the professional accountancy bodies - icaa and nia are some places to start as you will NOT get a well paying job without the right professional recognition.
Sydney is a great place, but can be very expensive, especially in the more "desirable" areas but I suppose that this is a matter of your own perspective. Personally, I live 100km west (well out of the city) and travel in by car daily.
Ever though of coming for a holiday to see what it's like? It's a long way to move if not to your liking!

nsw waits for 'worst storm' of the monthresidents of nsw coastal areas are bracing for what threatens to be the most dangerous of three major storms to hit the state this month.. cyclonic winds up to 125km/h and huge waves were forecast to batter the coastline from tonight and into wednesday, starting at moruya in the state's south and moving north.
Closed roads etc etc plus a few trees down to make life interesting in my area (Upper Blue Mountains, about 120km west of Sydney).
We did get snow overnight at home though ! Perhaps more later in the week.

she was the only natural born of my grandparents, her brother was adopted.
well my mom had three girls and adopted a boy.

The lack of knowledge will probably drive my wife back to Germany to find out the truth - she knows that she has family there now and that her mother did visit them in the past 10 years or so. Never told Mrs HAL though.
The lies are another problem - what her mother told her a year or so ago fits much better than what she told my wife as she was growing up. Funny how dementia causes some contro, to go - but my m-i-l was behaving like it was Germany, 1955,,,,,,,

The last I think I could ask is my mom. She may know if she has her wits about her that day. We will see.
Some family history: my wife is of German parents: he mother came here (apparently pregnant with her - why she left home at 21 ????), It is only the past 12 months that she found out that her "father" is not her biological father. Mysteries.
What was a bit of a revelation was a discussion that my wife had with her mother 18 months ago when she had some German language left - she was told a few things that she didn't know about her past, including the fact that her mother was thrown out of home (guess why?) & where the family really came from plus the fact that my wife has cousins etc etc etc. Appears my father-in-law was somewhat in the dark as well with what came out.
Pick your time with your mother, take it easy, because those memories can get really mixed up if too much pressure is on. Also be prepared to analyse & sort what she says. I tried the same wirth my father, but did not get much out of him as it was too late (dementia wise): your time is limited!
