i dont want a complicated version; just a very simple explanation on the theory of evolution, and if possible, in your own words.

many of us are very ignorant on this subject and it seems that a few here are very knowledgeable so i hope you can help me and others also.. also if you believe in the theory of common descent, could you explain that to me also?

On an earlier post, I stated what we were taught all through school, namely, that man evolved from monkeys. If that thought has changed, then it's equal in value to 1975 and the Generation change of the WTS.

Are you sure you were taught this in school? Or in a Kingdom Hall, it sounds like the anti evolutionary rhetoric give in ill informed JW publications. I don't know how old you are but I am now in my 30's and was never taught in school that man evolved from monkeys, that being said in school evolutionary science was very loosely skipped through

As for lambasting evolution, there are people here, on JWD, that go on just about every paranormal thread that someone starts, just to tell people that what they saw or experienced was not real, or was their imagination. As for me, I have seen and heard, what I have seen and heard, and it was NOT my imagination. It was VERY real.
So, what I'm saying is evolution, the idea that man evolved from monkeys, is in your imagination

Urg! Honestly I don't know whether I actually like and relish threads like this, or just get a headache. Evolution is a FACT, seriously do some SCIENTIFIC STUDYING (this is not looking for websites to support your weak arguments against evolution). The theory part is working out exactly HOW evolution happens. Evolution occurs daily, Viruses evolve constantly (change their genetic structure) to overcome immune systems, Viruses reproduce at a FAR faster rate than humans so obviously they evolve quicker

As for the examples of hominids you have stated they no longer exist because they are extinct obviously, in much the same way the dinosaurs are (which I refuse to believe you would claim have not existed) There is actually quite a lot of evidence for a number of tool-using hominids now and more fossils being discovered all the time. This evidence and education is there for you (and others) if you could actually be bothered to look for it, of course that does lead to the risk that you might actually find out you are wrong and then all your preconceptions are screwed

To reiterate again on this thread, man did not evolve from monkeys, making statements like that just shows up your naivety and lack of scientific education

It's all about that ... and since they chose the monkey (just because it looks more like us instead of the swin which have more in common genetically) it looks like since there is no real answer it's easier even for a scientist to clame that the monkey is our ancestor.

Urg! This is so stupid it beggars beliefs, "they" did not chose the monkey, in fact no one claims we are descended from monkeys anyway, it has been shown that monkeys, apes and humans share a common ancestor, monkeys, apes and humans all evolved FROM this ancestor, this is not because we vaguely look like a monkey (although some do) but because we are extremely close to monkeys and apes genetically speaking

If people are going to respond to a scientific question they should actually do some research and not rehash what they have read on some rubbish anti evolutionary tract or website

Evolution is all to do with the change of genes passed down through generations of life

The changes are caused by mutations

A lot of mutations have no benefit or give a disadvantage however some give members of a species that have the mutation an advantage over members that do not

Gradually the members that have the mutation become dominant and the species has evolved, remember though that evolutionary change can occur due to climate and circumstance so evolution does not neccessarily mean improvement as a whole, eg a members of a species migrate to a snowy climate over time it is probably advantageous to have white fur and more fat reserves which is an improvement for that isolated group but would be no good for members living in a lush green forest

Repeat this process over millions of years and you have the broad genetic diversity which we have today

This has been simplified a lot btw

Calling All UK ers I'm coming for a visit.

and i need advice on what to see.i'm not coming till next summer but i would like to know what i should plan to go see and what should i stay away from.i'm going to be traveling alone.a single female american.. .

i want to see london.i know that.i want to see the crown jewels and buckingham palace.i want to see the changing of the guard.i want to ride a double decker bus.i want to ride the tube.i also want to go out and see the country side.i'm planning on going to the aposta bbq next year.i was also thinking of taking the train to paris while i'm there just to see the eiffel tower.maybe only for a day or so.i also want to see scotland and ireland if i can.maybe only the big citys but i still want to go.. .

i'm going to get a monthly rail pass so i can travel around here and there for about 2 or 3 weeks depends on the money.i also want to go over to europe if i can.since i'll be so close i can't see why i shouldn't.lol i also here flights are cheep so why not.. .

aftermath: the shame and regret of it allhaving been a convert of jehovahs witnesses for 14 years there is one issue .

that seems difficult to have closure with, and that is facing former relatives and .

worldly friends that i had since childhood.. the watchtower encouraged separation from the unbelievers of this world .

It will only become something you regret for the rest of your life IF you refuse to confront your mistakes and get forgiveness. Remember the friends and family you talk of are not JW's and therefore will be far more likely to welcome you back with understanding but you have to make the move.

i always check blondie, bebu, alanf, farkel, onacruse, aguest (and probably others).

bc what they say has some gravity, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some insight.

i am a baptized jw that faded some years back.

in those days i deeply believed in the org and became disillusioned by some things happening in the local congregation.

following some research on the net i decided to fade out of watchtower existence because i did not want to keep mixing with false religion (or so i thought at the time).

Possibly,it all depends on what you are looking for. It sounds like you want to drift in some you can reignite some old friendships but the fact that you have to do this so that they will talk with you etc should give an indication of what sort of friends they are.....conditional ones who will shun you the moment you fall out of line

Do you really want that sword hanging over you, being careful what you say ALL the time, the fact that you left will mark you for close observation
