Has anyone seen "The Prodigal Son Returns" on JW.TV? A Masterpiece of indoctrination
by truthseeker ini'm watching the jw movie the prodigal son returns.. it is a masterpiece of indoctination and what i would call a "cult" classic.. it's about two brothers who work for their father's construction firm.
the older one is the most spiritual and the younger one isn't.
he befriends al, a weak brother, who persuades him to take a job in the city and move there.. it shows the "world" in the worst possible light.

I wonder if the road to paradise includes child molestation? Uh-oh, keep quiet about it! Quick roll a six and forgive your abuser! Now you can hold hands together and walk into paradise! -

Honestly, Did Jehovah's Witnesses Do Anything POSITIVE For You?
by minimus ini was raised as a witness and am very thankful that i am out.
having said that, i think my upbringing produced positive qualities in me.
do you believe that anything positive came from your being a witness?

I feel like this question is the equivalent of being kidnapped and reasoning, "well, all of those months spent chained in that basement did teach me to be OK with being all alone."
Or saying "well, my captor did give me water to drink and food to eat, so that was nice, right?"
The organization gets no credit whatsoever for any positives that might have coincidentally resulted from their abusive, narcissistic environment.
Any positives one can derive came, not from the organization, but from our fellow captives. Sadly, many of the negatives come from the Stockholm syndrome mentalities of our fellow captives as well.

"Even if it isn't the truth, it's still the best way to live"
by Simon inhave you heard that old chestnut?
i have.. typically it's the last resort when you have dismantled a jws beliefs and they have no way of defending them.
they know they are beat so they come out with that one.. its effectively an admission that you are right and they have no argument but they are still going to attend meetings because they like the social club.. what a lame way to defend your faith..

My wife said this to me last Winter, when I shared TTATT with her. Now she denies having said it. -

Stupid Organization!
by stillin ina while back, a local witness lost their home in a fire.
an announcement was made at the meeting that if anybody wanted to contribute, they could do so through their service group overseer.
my guess is that this arrangement is meant to bring tears of joy to the eyes of the impoverished one, and thankfulness to "jehovah's organization.

They did this for a coworker once. They were having some kind of financial trouble. An announcement was made from the platform, and by the end of the program, he was handed over $2000 in cash.
Of course, by "they", I mean a local church group, not a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
See, Jehovah surely is blessing the Jesus Christ Church or whatever their little group calls themselves...

Evolution is a Fact #3 - ERVs
by cofty inpart 1 - protein functional redundancy.... part 2 - dna functional redundancy.... imagine you are teacher with suspicions that some of your pupils have been copying from each other.
comparing the correct answers in all of their assignments might not provide conclusive evidence.
they could simply claim they had all carefully revised the same textbooks so it shouldn't be surprising that they all gave the same answers.

I'm really enjoying these posts Cofty.
ERVs are irrefutable evidence of evolution.

Building layoffs & JW calendar 2016 theme
by Gorbatchov inthe theme of the jw calendar 2016 is building, building, building.
all the calendar pictures are about building wts property with cheap labor witnesses.. and then, just before the year approaches the building has halted.. it seems a short term decision.
a strange correlation again.. gorby.

They advocate cognitive dissonance.
- We're not building anything anymore. However, we're definitely still building things.
- We don't shun, however we totally do shun.
- We don't claim to be prophets, however we're totally prophets.
- Don't add or take anything away from the scriptures, however here's a bunch of books with a bunch of extra rules. Follow them or die. It's totally up to you.
- You have free will. Just do whatever we say or else.
- We don't have child molesters, except for all of the child molesters we have.
- Love your neighbor, unless they're not a JW or are a former JW, then hate your neighbor. But still love them. Just treat them hatefully.
etc. etc. etc.

Old is Becoming New Again?
by Tazemanian-devil inis it just me, or does it seem like jw.org is returning to some very old methods from rutherford's era?.
- their carts / booths is very reminiscent of the sandwich board system, including the fact that they no longer personally engage.
- showing videos via the tablet / smartphone is almost exactly like the phonograph method they used.

- Their carts / booths is very reminiscent of the sandwich board system, including the fact that they no longer personally engage
- Showing videos via the tablet / smartphone is almost exactly like the phonograph method they used
- Showing videos at conventions makes the convention much more like when they only had one major convention, such as the Cedar Point Ohio amusement park convention that everybody had to travel to
Assuming this is true, and the current GB is trying to copy things that seemed to work way back when, I wonder what other changes are in store?
It already seems like they're working toward moving back to a MUCH smaller bethel family, perhaps even eventually closing all branches and working from Warwick alone at some point.
Do you think they'll go back to some other old school methods? For example, they could eliminate elder bodies again, and return to the "congregation servant" model that Rutherford instituted, because it's much easier to control one or two people instead of 6 or 8 or more per congregation. Just choose a "company man", such as the current COBE of an infamous US congregation famous for it's issue with apostasy in the 80's, who knows TTATT but stays loyal to the org anyway, who will do exactly what the org tells him to.
What do you think?
