First of all, I do believe that there are two sides to every story.
Was it tragic that some of the events listed in this article happened? Of course. But to say that is always what happens is too extreme.
How many times have known, confessed criminals gotten away with murder because they "were not read their rights?" It has happened many times. Why is no one complaining about that? I would imagine more people have gotten away with major crimes than have been " tortured" as the article claims.
I have a neighbor that is a criminal defense attorney. According to him, there are MANY cases thrown out on obviously guilty case, because someone did not give him his rights.
A criminal, before he is given his rights, can loudly proclaim that he is guilty, and how he did it, etc, and if he was not given his Miranda rights beforehand, none of what he says can be entered into court. Something wrong with that picture too.
In my opinion, this article, while it may raise concerns, is not a balanced view from which to make an intelligent decision.

As an employer, I like people who stand up for what they want, are sincere, look me in the eye, and tell me why I should bring them on.
Also, answers with more than just a one word answer is best.

DIM is an apostate
by DIM inwell, after 9 months of being out, i've learned that the rumour is out that i am apostate.
this is primarily because of things my mother has said to people.
the funny thing is that i moved 3000 miles away and have barely had any contact with any of my old friends.

Sorry about what is happening to you.
It is tough, but there are tons of new friends awaiting out there for you and your family. Ones that won't judge you like the WTS does.

What else do people fall for?
by sleepy inwhat other scams ,schemes and crazy stuff do people fall for apart from becoming jehovahs witnesses?do you know of things to watch out for that some others may not be well informed enought about to know the problems involved?
homoeopathy is one.companies making millions out of the suffering of desperate people and selling them suger and water.
the only effect homoeopathy can have is a placebo one that may cause you to be more relaxed and less stressed due to the belief you are being cured, which will aid recovery, but that would just happen if you were lied to by your doctor.

I would like to point out that there is a big difference between pyramid scheme, and a legitimate business. If a person is to look into any kind of business, it should be done with a lot of research. Sadly, many people spend the same amount of time choosing their profession as they do their summer vacation.
People are quick to point out a pyramid "scheme", but really, when we all think about it, most jobs are just that. I happen to own 3 different businesses, and I can assure you, they all have that appearance. No matter how hard my employees try, they will never get a higher position than me. I am on top, and they are below me. Can't get too much more pyramid shape than that. But that is business. For every owner, there may be several managers. For every manager, there may be several office staff, then there may be warehouse. That is just the way it works.
Personally, I have no problem with people trying to do something more with their lives. It may not be for me, but I will not dampen the enthusiasm of a friend. If they want to go off and do something over and above the usual, more power to them. Who am I to steal their dreams and desires?

I had a circuit overseer tell the congregation once that we should proudly proclaim that we were witnesses at the door. From that moment on, when they asked who we were, especially through the door, I would loudly say who we were.
Don't remember anyone answering the door afterwards to talk.

Waiting-
I have discussed their version of df'ing with a couple of mormon friends. Unless they were dismissing it as no big deal to hide what it really is, they told me that you basically just are not considered a mormon anymore. Whatever "privledges" they may have had, would be taken away. Similar as if a MS was removed.
But as far as being able to communicate, and be friends with the ousted mormon, apparently that all stays the same.
They do have their own stupid rules; for example if you are not the perfect mormon, you may be told that you cannot take sacriment (however it is spelled) or you may not be able to enter their temples.
But the hurtful type stuff that the WTS does, just isn't there.
