I used to get excited when they would change the meeting around and do a local needs talk. Always much more interesting, especially when trying to figure out who they were talking about.

It is with stories like this that remind us, that yes, the holidays can be a special time. Of course, we can always be giving all year, but here are a few weeks where we can be reminded to try harder to be kind to the people around you.
Great story!

Even if there was a e-mail address designed for the GB, they would not have a clue how to use it. It may be used by the ones helping them out.
The GB is clueless about life, let alone know how to turn on a computer.

by LovesDubs infor those of you trying to sneak out the back door without being dfd or dad...and plan to do holidays, please remember that the jws are tightening their grip on detractors and those who think they can leave without consequences and they will come to your door christmas morning to try to catch you!
i have heard of this countless times since leaving in jan 97. keep everything that might incriminate you away from the front door!!
and that includes your kids whom they will ask direct questions to!edited by - lovesdubs on 12 december 2002 14:23:44.

I would love a copy of that video if it were to ever happen! Make sure you have several cameras set up so you can make sure to record every face they make.

Slacks, ties, sport jackets, dress shirts, suits...... still use them. Just don't go to meetings with them.
I do find myself once in a while, if I am shopping and need new dress shoes, the first thing that jumps into my mind is needing new meeting shoes. Aggghhhhh I hate that!!

Prophetic Poverty and Delicious Torture!
by LDH inwell, kids, it's that time of year again!!!
the time of the year when the rest of the western world slows down just a little, gives thanks for what they have and stops bitching about what they don't have, and thinks of lending a helping hand to their neighbors a little bit more....you get the idea!
i wonder what those knuckleheads the jws will be doing?

I remember my dad when asked to donate, would always announce that we were witnesses (while I shrunk) and we would not donate. Never really remember a reason. I do recall there being negative talk about charities in general among the witnesses.

We live in a gated community, so it will be difficult for them to get in. But my wife is looking forward to them knocking on the door; she will ask how they got in, and then escort them out.
Too bad these elders have to resort to theocratic warfare to "get" the inactive.

A real life touching Christmas story
by freedom96 inthere have been a few posts lately about christmas, and what that time of year really means.
to many, it is simply a holiday where you exchange gifts.
there are many out there who slam the holiday, including the witnesses, complaining about this or that, and not having the holiday spirit that is supposed to be there.

There have been a few posts lately about Christmas, and what that time of year really means. To many, it is simply a holiday where you exchange gifts. There are many out there who slam the holiday, including the witnesses, complaining about this or that, and not having the holiday spirit that is supposed to be there. The fact is, for some, it really is a wonderful time of the year to help others out, and do nice things.
The following is a true story, and the person involved is a business associate of mine. I have been friends with his family a long time, and everything stated here is accurate. I think this is a perfect example of the real Christmas spirit. For the purpose of this story, I will change the names of those involved, as this was done without looking for praise and the "look at me" attitude.
Rick and Paige had done very well financially, and wanted to give back to those who needed it. They went to their pastor, and asked for a list of all the single moms in the church that were having a hard time financially. In addition to the names of the moms, they wanted names and ages of her children.
They went to Toys R Us on Christmas eve, and got a few shopping carts. They filled this carts with many toys. They kept track on their list of those children, and bought gifts according to their age. There were electronic toys, dolls, little bicycles, games; everything you could imagine. They would look around, and were amazed at the disgusted looks of others, as they went down the isles. "Oh look at them!" was heard, with people pointing. How horrible, what a display, "what spoiled kids they must have!" They didn't understand what was going on, nor did they take the time to find out.
They purchased the merchandise, and load up the toys into a big truck. Together, with the pastor, they headed off to the homes of these single moms and their children. It was getting late at this point; kids were in bed by now.
At each of the homes the following happened. The pastor knocked on the door, with Rick and Paige behind them. The mom would answer the door, rather suprised at the late knock. She would feel better once she saw the pastor, and wondered, "Why are you here, and so late?" The pastor would then introduce them to Rick and Paige; sometimes they would recognize each other, but now a formal introduction was given. Rick and Paige, as the pastor would say, were here to help out with Christmas. Right after that, they would go to the truck and bring out the toys that were specifically chosen for her children. Lots of toys, and pile them in the living room.
At each home that they did this at, it was the same result. The mom would be crying tears of happiness, at the same time asking "Who are you and why are you doing this?" followed by a "What do you want or expect from me?" Rick and Paige said that they were blessed to be in a position to help, and would hand them a disposable camera. "All we want in return, is for you to take pictures of your kids when they wake up in the morning and see the suprises in store for them, and send us those pictures." And then they would leave to the next house
As many good people I knew that were witnesses, none had the heart and unselfish love displayed by Rick and Paige.
Just an example of what Christmas can be about. Not everyone obviously can do what this couple did, but even the little things we do, can make a huge difference in someone else's life.

Double life....
by kelsey007 inat some point most all ex-jws lived a double life within the organization.
whatever happened to make each of us change our views toward the religion few went straight to the elders and spoke openly and candidly about their feelings.
we put on the act for a while before we stopped going or got caught in our evil deeds or thoughts and were removed.

My personal reasons for fading away have been discussed before, even yesterday with Kelsey.
I know for some, it is a healing process for those who must DA themselves, or for others, allow themselves to get DF'd.
A possible viewpoint however, could be this: If we allow ourselves to be DF'd, or we go and DA ourselves, is that not answering up to the WTS? If we truly are not allowing them to control us, then why should we feel obligated to answer up to them, and put a label on us? To me, that is certainly acting as though they (the WTS) do have the power.
I have chosen for the time being to work the system. I take whatever steps I need to take in order to continue my relationship with my minor son, and a couple of friends still in. That being said, I will allow no elder to dictate to me what my actions should be. They have not contacted me, and quite frankly, don't think they will take the time to do so.
Reading posts on this site helps give me the upper hand. I am able to know what is going on in the halls without going, and also know the complete BS that is going on within the organization.

This was talked about at great length by a radio station in LA yesterday. Go to kfi640.com and click on the John and Ken show. They will have links on that subject.
Hope that helps.
