Anniversary Pics. Caution! Boozy Content!
by Englishman ini thought that you might enjoy seeing some pics of our anniversary night out a couple of weeks ago.. this is her ladyship and i at the start of the evening, we're just starting our second bottle of wine, a sprightly sancerre, whilst we await the arrival of our main course in the flute de paris:.
once we'd finished in the restaurant we went back to our - youve guessed it - local pub, the waverley, already visited by 30 + apostates to date.
now we're really warming up, and drinks are on the house for us:.

Tolerance
by Xena inyou know most of us spend a large part of our lives in a religion that allowed for no independant thinking.
we were taught and taught others that ours was the only way and anyone who thought differently was going to be judged unworthy and die.
anyone who presumed to think outside the box was branded "apostate" or not good association.

People are people. Some are going to be more passionate than others. Some people have more tact than others.
Just because someone was a witness, and experienced all the same crap, doesn't mean that they will suddenly become compassionate towards others and their beliefs.
Some people are just better at communicating and having people skills than others. Does not make them better or worse, just facts of life.

Attending the "right" hall
by freedom96 inthere always seemed to be such a big stink about making sure you went to the hall that you were assigned to.
whatever territory that you lived in, that would be the hall assignment, whether you liked it or not.. if you chose not to go to your assigned hall, boy was there ever flack.
you could get severely counciled for it.. just seems to be another stupid rule that they would get upset about.

What Are Some Of The STUPIDEST Comments Made?
by minimus inwhat are some of the stupidest comments made in the watchtower, or by a circuit overseer or elder that you've never forgotten?
the one about" the rapist being human" too, ranks right up there....like we're supposed to feel bad for him?

If you are hurting financially, having marriage troubles, having doubts, kids are in trouble, you are in trouble, no matter what is the problem, it can be fixed by going to more meetings, and going out in service more.
Just bury your head in the WTS and everything will work out ok. BULL****!!!

If this happened, what would you do?
by whyhideit inyou have been following the news for weeks on iraq and wonder, "when will we attack and get this thing done?
" finally we invade and the war is in full swing.
the economy, which has been struggling for months now, finally caves in and major retailers fold as of the results of an extremely poor holiday shopping season.

Interesting post. I just finished watching "The Sum of All Fears" a couple of days ago, dealing with the issue of such an attack.
First, I agree with a previous post, that a nuke that filled the back of a truck could certainly take out a large city.
No, the idea of Armeggedon would never have come into my mind.
I sure hope that I never see something like that in my lifetime. I am in my early 30's and want to live to be an old man.
I also agree with a previous post that other nations would likely not care if we were to strike back, given the conditions of the first post. Other nations certainly saw the destruction of what happened on 9/11, and there was not too much crap given us about wanting to strike back.
I think big nations like the US, Russia, etc, know and realize the power and destruction of a nuke, and they respect that. I do not believe that there are going to be a bunch of countries suddenly shooting nukes all over. The ones that we have to worry about are the lunatics like Saddam, and Bin Ladin.
Remember, in large countries, to launch a strike using a nuke, several people with unlock codes must be used in order to do it. For example, President Bush could not sit there and say screw it and press a button. Much more complicated than that. However, you get a dictator like Saddam, all he has to do is give the order, (if he were to get one) and the missile would be launched. Another reason in my opinion that we must strike hard, strike fast those like him, and Bin Ladin, so that they don't have the chance to screw things up for the rest of the world. Do you really think they care? If you see what they have done to their own land, their own people, they obviously have no regard for human life at all.

Did you like Genesis?
by JH inwhen i was younger, i listened to groups like genesis, supertramp, pink floyd, and so much more.
were these groups also popular in the united states, or was it just england and canada?
when i used to go to the hall, i never listened to that kind of music because i felt it didn't match the religion i was in.

The P.O. in my hall growing up went through my record collection, and tossed out several albums. Mainstream rock/ pop, not like it was satan metal thrash stuff.
I did listen to what I wanted, though we were counciled to not listen to any singer that was gay, took drugs, or had sex out of marriage.

Do Elders need to study?
by Outaservice inyear ago we used to criticize the 'clergy' because we heard that most of them just bought their weekly sermons!
(not true by the way!).
are jw elders any different?

Interesting how the WTS is so paranoid with the teachings that they have someone follow along. No wonder they were boring as hell.
Looking back, I do remember my dad having completely scripted talk outlines.

Things I wonder about and have seen!
by Outaservice in1. why is anyone ever invited to 'the special talk' when it was always the most boring canned talk of the year?.
2. why is anyone ever invited to the memorial?
it's got to be the most confusing meeting for any new ones to listen to and no one hardly participates as christians are encouraged to do.. 3. i once gave a talk in a kingdom hall and on the stage was an american flag!
-

I certainly never saw a flag of any kind in the hall. I used to see it at an district assembly where it was part of the decor of the building that was being used, but never in a hall.
I never thought that the special talk was in any way special, and yes the memorial was always talked up, but would have been extremely boring to anyone attending.
