I remember the disgusted looks when I pulled up at the hall in the Porsche I had at the time.

Did you ever see an elder with a 2 door car?
by JH in.
i already bought 2 door cars, and the witnesses didn't like it... i felt looked down upon, as it was a sin to buy a 2 door car.. now imagine an elder buying a 2 door car....

How did you get the "troof"?
by dorayakii ini was assimilated at birth... .
my maternal grandparents came to england in the early 1940s, and learnt the troof here.
my grandfather opposed my grandmother for a while, but then he decided it wasn't worth the fight and studied the blue "troof book" and my grandparents got baptised at the same assembly.

My mom got baptized when I was one or two, and then brought up in a very religious and strict home, my dad a prominent elder.
Amazingly, they both are out now as well.

who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

I would have to think that it would be easier for those who came in as adults. One of many reasons is because they know what "the world" is really like, instead of the myth done by the WTS to scare others.
It would be very interesting to actually know what the real numbers are.

Elder Condemned Me to Death
by Grace ini have been thinking about this because of another post where the question asks have any of us ever been blackmailed to stay in the watchtower organization.. no, i won't say i was blackmailed; however, after i wrote my note of disassociation, the congregation overseer wanted to visit me in my home with two other elders.
i repeatedly said no, that i would not allow them to chastise me in my own home.
therefore, all of my conversations were over the phone with the overseer.

It is interesting how the bible says no one is to judge except God, however witnesses left and right judge others all the time. Who the hell is this elder to say what he did?
Anyone say that to me, they will get a verbal thumping.

Is it worth it?
by freedom96 inmy nearly 18 year old son lives out of state.
just recently, he agreed to look at the reasons why my wife and i don't go to the meetings anymore.
he is very active, so i was suprised to hear that he wants to know why.

My son and I agreed that all information that I present to him will be from the WTS itself.
He asked for time to investigate the information that I give him, so that we can have an intelligent conversation. I think he is bringing his Watchtower CD and who knows what else.
Which is fine, so then I can show him the original magazine articles, and he can see that they changed some of it when it when to CD.

I think for many of us we will never be able to deny our situation regarding the witnesses.
It will be with me for the rest of my life, though it does not run my life.
As far as telling others, some people know. But I don't go out of my way to talk about it.

My nearly 18 year old son lives out of state. Just recently, he agreed to look at the reasons why my wife and I don't go to the meetings anymore.
He is very active, so I was suprised to hear that he wants to know why. He is convinced that there is no way I will be able to prove that the WTS is not the true religion.
He asked me if I would go to a meeting with him later this summer when he visits. I told him my concience would not allow it.
However, I have been thinking....
We have been attending a non-denominational church lately. It is actually enjoyable to go to, and is quite large with kid programs, etc. No where inside are there crosses, or anything to make a witness feel "wierd." The service has a pastor who dresses in a nice shirt and slacks, and at the beginning is a live band with some really good music. Talks straight from the bible, and he makes a lot of sense.
There is nothing evil about the place at all. I know we were taught that churches are horrible, if not demonic. Well, obviously, that is not the case. If my son were to attend, I don't think he could find much of anything to complain about. Other than the fact that everyone looked happy to be there, and were dressed casual.
So......... what if I promised to go to a meeting (gag, cough, cough) if he were to agree to go to my "church?" I would make him go first of course. At this point he seems open minded, at least to have intelligent conversation about it. But I don't see him going with me, even if I offer. I just don't see it, though perhaps the offer should be made. But then again, then he will know that we are going to a "church," not sure how that will affect him. So, is it worth asking him to go? Even if I have to edure a meeting?
Though he is young, he is well read in the bible, and aux pioneers at least half of the year. This will not be easy.
Also, if anyone has any ideas of what to talk about first in regards to proving the WTS is wrong, dead wrong. He will be visiting for nearly a month, so I imagine there will be several conversations about it. I was leaning towards talking to him about the hurt that the WTS has caused, and their flip flop teachings, from way back when to current. Probably should stay off of doctrine for the time being.
Any suggestions?

I would like them to consider in their heart how many peoples lives have been destroyed one way or another by the WTS. How Godly or Christlike is that, dear brother??

What do you miss most about being in the truth ?

As I look back, I realize, that there is nothing at all that I miss about being a JW. Really, not one.
