Good answer to their dumb ass questions and looks. I saw that all the time, people talking about having a good service car, or out shopping for one that would be perfect for service. People who bought vans were praised even more. I never bought into that; I would just show up in my 2 door Porche, and then get looks also for being materialistic. Oh well.

None of your business
by JH inbeing a jehovah witness, did you feel obliged to have a 4 door car?
once i bought a 2 door car, and everyone was looking at me as if i commited a crime.
i then reasoned with them saying, "didn't jesus send his deciples by groups of 2?".

My mom got involved when I was a few months old, grew up in it, and continued until 24 years old. A couple of assemblies and memorials since, and nothing for 8 years.

Will They Abduct My Son!
by 68storm ini would appreciate some input from the board that is weighing quite heavy on mind.. as some of you may know, my ex divorced me six years ago, strictly for religious reasons.
after an enormous amount of legal funds, i succeeded in getting an agreement signed that states that when the child reaches an age that the courts consider mature enough, we would both allow him to make his choice of religions.
even if he wanted nothing to do with religion.. it would seem that the time has finally arrived.

Storm, I completely feel for you.
I too, have a son going to the meetings with his mother. He too is young, and does not fully comprehand what it means to be a witness. I have fought back and forth for years too, with my ex over all sorts of issues, and I totally understand where you are coming from.
While reading your comments, it appears as though your son is siding against the witnesses? Is that true? If so, that is awesome.
As far as your ex or someone on her behalf taking your son away, I would imagine that is very unlikely. Main reason, is the law will come down on her hard, and you will have full custody and control over your son, while she will go to jail. The law just will not allow her to get away with behaving in that manner.
Continue to be there for your son, and love on him, and get him around good people, and he will realize that the witness faith is full of crap, and you won't have that to worry about.
As far as the ex goes, been there, and make sure each and everything you do is written down and documented through the courts. I have an extra evil ex myself, and that is what I have had to do, and the courts have nailed her several times. Sounds like our ex's are "good true Christians." What a joke.

For those who do believe in heaven, we must realize that it is nothing like here. This really could be another dimension. I would imagine that there would be an infinite amount of things to experience. Also, God wants us to be happy, and I personally will leave it in His hands about what happens.

Falling Away
by Blueblades ini understand that between 1970 and 1995, one-third of the jehovah's witnesses worldwide left the organization.
the figure is 55% for those in the u.s.a.these figures would seem to mean that there are a lot of dissatisfied jw's!
if you were to ask a jw's,why so many would want to leave if there is such a wonderful atmosphere of love among the witnesses, could they give you a good reason?

They justify the ones leaving as those with a bad heart, who just want to their own thing.

Reading Other Books
by Blueblades inwhen one looks at the watchtower publications they soon notice that the writers quote from many different books and encyclopedias in order to try to prove their beliefs and teachings.i would assume that the authors of the articles read these books in detail so as to be certain that they are quoting in context.since they read and quote from so many sources,it seems to suggest that there are many good books on the market that are not written by jehovah's witnesses and yet contain a lot of truth which agrees with watchtower's teachings.so for any lurking jw's,are you free to read these various books?why can the authors of the watchtower publications in brooklyn read these books but not the average jehovah's witness?

The WTS says that the rank and file witness is too stupid, and too busy studying the WTS books and magazines to bother reading other stuff. So they will do all the work, pick out what works for them, quote out of context, and go on.

Needless To Say...
by Derrick inyour harsh criticism of the watchtower is not helping matters.
instead of criticizing the problems, why not suggest solutions?.
this is pointless, provocative and designed to ignite a firestorm of followup attacks.... "the borg's disfellowship policies totally sux!!!!!".
-

Though there are many good people in the organization Derrick, it is completely run by the WTS in New York, who will not listen to ANYONE regarding their policies.
History shows that they have become more dogmatic every year, and much more controlling. If they lighten up on their teachings, then they will lose control over individual witnesses.
I agree that changing some of the policies would help make them more humane, but that still does not ignore the fact that the WTS teachings are incorrect.
If the WTS would relax and become more humane, then I would have no problem with others believing what they teach. It would be just like many other religions.

get's tough, especially the no sex part, and she plays that card every phone call, promising all kinds of kinky nasty things to me when she comes home.
