I wonder how many witnesses believe he is doomed forever being he was a "worldly" person. Whether you liked him or not, he was pure and honest.

Would you allow someone else to discipline your kids?
by freedom96 inthere is much debate on whether or not a parent should discipline their child by spanking, or sometimes even worse.
minimus asked about this on a recent thread.. it reminded me of hearing stories about how those in positions of authority would sometimes spank a child.
the first that comes to mind is teachers.

It reminded me of hearing stories about how those in positions of authority would sometimes spank a child. The first that comes to mind is teachers. I believe most of this happened years ago, but maybe still exists some in private schools. But the teachers were allowed to spank, paddle, hit with a ruler, etc.
I will be the first to say that no teacher would ever be allowed to touch my child like that. If I ever found out about something like that happening to my child, I would be putting the fear of God into that teacher in a second.
As I mentioned in the earlier thread, I tend to believe that a single swat, designed to suprise a young child when they are doing something wrong or dangerous is ok, but sensless beatings out of anger is wrong. I would much rather talk with the child, especially when they are old enough to communicate and try to reason with them. I have never been a fan of spankings. Especially when I was a kid!
So, all that being said, I would never allow anyone other than my spouse or myself ever resort to a swat on the hand or butt. I know my friends and family would never dream of doing such a thing. I just don't know where these teachers get off thinking they can do it. They better pray they never touch my child.
Any of you experience the wrath of a teacher, or known that a teacher has hit your kid? Did you allow it? Would you allow it? How is it so many parents did in times past? Was it just accepted?

Are You Ashamed Of The Way That You Disciplined Your Child?
by minimus inmost articles in the publications recommended physical punishment, (corporal) when disciplining children.
the scripture says that "he will not die" if you beat him.
so many parents literally beat their children.

I believe there may be times that a swat on the butt is needed, more to suprise the child and ingrain into their head that what they are doing is wrong, not wishing to inflict pain.
However, sensless beatings, out of anger, or to the point of leaving marks, is flat out wrong.
As the child gets older, and can reason, I find that to be the best way to dicipline.

The Society prefers to pay out!!!!
by caspian ini was down at the london branch recently, talking to the the bros on the legal desk, when i came across an interesting snippet.. at uk district conventions, about half are indoor, and the rest are held in cold draughty football stadiums.. it seems that over the past 2 years, the amount of attendees of these conventions held in the outdoor stadiums, who are now sueing the society for injuries caused by trips and falls down steep stadium stairs has risen from an average of 1 or 2 per year to over 30 cases.. the availability of these new style no win no fee lawyers are proving to much of an attraction to those out for a quick buck.. the societies position, i thought was interesting, as the average payout is between 3k and 7k, they are quite happy to settle out of court, as it is cheaper than going to court.. i then got to thinking.
imagine if every apostate went to a convention, and took a little fall, trapped a finger, grazed a knee and so-on...... could turn conventions in to a very expensive hobby for the society... by the way simon, the forum looks great... .

If a witness fell at a convention, and then sued the WTS for damages, I am suprised they aren't severely counciled for doing so. Wouldn't that be slapping Jehovah's organization in the face?
In fact, being that the WTS is supposed to be headed by Jehovah, are these people actually suing God?
I guess the witnesses are not immune from the idiots who must sue everyone and/ or looking to make a quick buck at the expense of others.

Desire to talk to an elder
by Eppie inhey everyone,.
i have a question: i am happily faded but i recently got the desire to talk to an elder of my old congregation.
the problem is that he doesn't know i am faded (i kinda disappeared from jw archives while moving to college), and that i do not want to get into trouble by this.

Welcome to the board. I agree with previous postings that going back to talk to this elder is just going to cause serious problems.
I encourage you to do more research on the background of the WTS, and what really goes on. Talk to some on the board here that served time at bethel, missionaries, even elders, pioneers, and others. They will gladly let you know the inside scoop.

Michael Jackson.....again!
by ScoobySnax inwell now i can't make my mind up...!!
(whats new) over her in the uk, skyone has just aired the michael jackson side of the documentary from martin bashir....you know the one where mj is filming bashir interviewing him, a kind of a me watching you watching me thing.
while i've always thought mj has lost the plot a bit, i do like his music, and this new film totally contradicted the original bashir documentary.

The original show displayed once again, that any viewpoint can be skewed to show whatever that person wants you to see.
This interviewer is a liar, and was only out to make some publicity. He certainly achieved that didn't he?

Is everyone on this Web Board a Jehovah's Witness Basher?
by sandy ini grew up in the religion and was baptized at.............supposedly the most important day in our lives and i cannot remember how old i actually was, anyways...... i believe it was 13 or 14. i was never disfellowshipped.
i have a "worldly" boyfriend whom i love dearly, and i no longer attend the "meetings".
i do not disagree with the organization entirely; in fact i am not even sure if i disagree with it at all.

Sounds to me that you have some deep soul searching to do. You need to give some serious thought about why you believe what you do, and go from there.
Research is vital. Don't take one persons viewpoint and run with it. And certainly don't just take the organizations word for it either.
Once you have all the facts, then you can make an informed decision.
Best wishes!

Comments at the hall
by JH in.
when you were an active dub, did you comment at the hall because you believed what you were saying, or because you wanted to repeat what was said in the article and look spiritual?.
