UZBEKISTAN: Jehovah's Witness beaten, tried and sentenced to labour camp
By Felix Corley, Forum 18 News Service <http://www.forum18.org>
Samarkand City Court sentenced Jehovah's Witness Irfon Hamidov on 14 May to
two years in a labour camp on charges of "illegally" teaching his faith in a
trial Jehovah's Witnesses say was marred by "procedural violations". "Two of
the 'witnesses' summoned to testify against Hamidov actually acknowledged that
they had never seen him before," Jehovah's Witnesses complained to Forum 18
News Service. They added that Hamidov was beaten in pre-trial detention. His
appeal is due to be heard on 19 June. Officials declined to discuss his case
with Forum 18, though a Samarkand Internal Affairs official claimed to Forum
18 (wrongly) that religious believers are able to meet for worship in private
homes. In another of the criminal cases launched this year against Jehovah's
Witnesses, Ramil Gareev has been found guilty in Karshi of "illegal" religious
activity, but Russian news agency Interfax reports that he was immediately
amnestied. Of the several dozen Jehovah's Witness communities in Uzbekistan,
the government allows only one to operate legally. -

What was your WORST Field Service encounter???
by TheCoolerKing insomeone mentioned to me the other day about going door to door back when i was a jw.

I think the JW's should change to street witnessing. While I have never been a JW I have had neighbors treat them badly and have their dogs threaten them. In the JW Knocking DVD there is a extra segment about street witnessing where people are a lot more receptive and tend not to get offended.

Yes the CT Russel theology mainly is a result of the Millerette movement. The only unique then that Russel did was going Pyramid measurement crazy and after he died that slowly faded away. Snicker.

This is a propaganda film that I watched a while ago. I have known and worked with JW's my entire life and meet one jerk out of dozens of nice sincere hard working people. I'm sorry that the people in the families have had a break up, but in the secular world families don't talk to each other for all kinds of reasons also.

Do you still pray/talk to yourself like you used to?or wish very hard?
by Crumpet ini find that i still have an internal dialogue - a bit like i used to when i walked around talking to god like my life depended on it trying to cultivate that elusive relationship with him.
i like to call it internal dialogue because otherwise they could bring in the mental health professionals...don't ask me who "they" are - do i look/act/sound paranoid?!
so before "they" take me away: do you still find you talk to yourself in your head when you see things of especial beauty that might previously have inspired a prayer of thanks (and maybe still do - don't worry i am over with the castigation of the religious, for now!)?
-

It is OK to talk to yourself, it is when you receive an answer back that you are in trouble.

Just add water - students invent alcohol powder Wed Jun 6, 2007 10:13AM EDT AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch students have developed powdered alcohol which they say can be sold legally to minors. The latest innovation in inebriation, called Booz2Go, is available in 20-gramme packets that cost 1-1.5 euros ($1.35-$2). Top it up with water and you have a bubbly, lime-colored and -flavored drink with just 3 percent alcohol content. "We are aiming for the youth market. They are really more into it because you can compare it with Bacardi-mixed drinks," 20-year-old Harm van Elderen told Reuters. Van Elderen and four classmates at Helicon Vocational Institute, about an hour's drive from Amsterdam, came up with the idea as part of their final-year project. "Because the alcohol is not in liquid form, we can sell it to people below 16," said project member Martyn van Nierop. The legal age for drinking alcohol and smoking is 16 in the Netherlands. In Germany, alcopops -- sweet drinks containing alcohol and in powder form -- caused quite a stir when launched on to the market. Alcohol powder, classified as a flavoring, was sold in the United States three years ago. The students said companies interested in making the product commercially could avoid taxes because the alcohol was in powder form. A number of companies are interested, they said.
