I agree with you and your father, all guns should be treated as loaded, I was taught that at a young age before going hunting. I owned guns most of my life and respect them greatly. As I said before I would never joke with an actual gun, especially around cops, that would be a bad idea, I know several cops and support them, even without a gun I am very cautious when dealing with them in cases like being pulled over for a traffic violation. I hope you understand where I am comming from. -r

blondie, I do respect you but I have to differ. first
I did figure there would a few who didn't like guns and might get pissy.
This is kind of funny seeing how we talk so much about the bible and what things mean and this sentence is misunderstood, I was talking about two groups the ones who "didn't like guns" and those that "might get pissy". second I wether guns are a joking matter is really a personal thing, you may not think they are, I may. I personally would not think "really" brandishing a gun for fun would be proper but some may. In the context I made reference to them I thought it ok. But once again it is a personal thing and you are free to feel how you want. again, even though I do not agree with you on this point, I still respect you. -r

Ok Ok...Everybody, I see I got a few peoples ire up. I was not ACTUALLY serious. At least a few people realized that. I do like guns but I have a great respect for them and would never really do something like this. Sorry if I got anyone really stirred up. I did figure there would a few who didn't like guns and might get pissy. I did like the suggestion about the star trek costume. That was awesome, I laughed at that one. I will video tape it if it ever does happen, that will be the only shooting besides shooting down their arguments. And for whoever said something about mature and if they could piss off too, well....yeah, if you are going to be a hard ass. -r

It is most likely still very far away but I wanted to share with you guys one of the things I am thinking about doing when/if I do meet. I plan on getting my CHL (concealed carry permit) Then I am going to get a shoulder holster. see here http://www.centuriontactical.com/images/blackhawk/holster-shoulder.jpg I will have them meet at my house and I will be wearing a jacket when they come and when they sit down to meet I will take off my jacket and sit too. This would not be brandishing the weapon and I will be in my own house. I may even use a fake gun. But I bet this will make them think twice about getting testy with me. *evil laugh* I will be video recording the whole thing too. What do you guys think? Oh, and if you don't like guns or whatever, piss off, I DO! -r

Hats off to Simon for this board
by truthseeker ini wanted to personally thank simon for all his hard work in keeping this board running, for the better part of six years.
it's not easy keeping track of thousands of members, dealing with their complaints etc, but he's done it.. i know a few old timer's have left, but many more have joined, some of them who held or are holding prestigious positions in the society.. we need this board for the sake of us, newbies and the lurkers.. does it matter if new jw boards appear?
to quote a favorite wt phrase, "not at all!

I think you should do as lovesdubs suggested, don't answer their questions. I also like to get offended when someone asks me a question I don't want to answer something like Elder: Drew, do you think that this is God's orginization Drew: "I am offended, I will not dignify that with an answer!" or "Does it matter what I THINK, that won't change the FACTS" or "I believe what the bible says" Oh and yeah, record it, I would say buy a digital recorder if you can cause it will recorde for hours. You should control the conversation. I would also tell them that if they want to meet with you they should provide you a written agenda of what will be discussed. Prepare answers and don't deviate form it, when you have covered everything on the agenda tell them to leave. -r

SR, being a noob and having not been associated with the ORG since 13 you probably don't understand how just quiting can rip a family apart. I suggest you read some of the old posts and experiences so that you can understand what people quiting go through. I bet of those that have been smokers (i am not one) would say smoking was easier to quit. Welcome to the board BTW. -r

Just to clarify for some of you, The parking of this place is just stupid, even if you get there early you can't get any closer, I was there early. As for the walk, I am in good shape, I workout almost every day, so the walk in and of its self did not bother me, it was the walk in a suit with books food and seat cushions in tow and it being 90 at 7:30am. Our previous location I only had to walk 1-2 minutes. I know it sounds petty but for that to start off your day, then to be cramped all day long then to make the trek back to your boiling car in 105 temps is not my idea of REFRESHING. I know I sound like a candyass, but I normaly don't vocalize these things I just suck-it-up. But I wanted you guys to know my pain and get the real experience. itsallgoodnow, yo, PM me, we should talk, maybe we know each other or at least know mutual people.

Well, Iast weekend was my DC. It was at the merrell center in Katy TX.
For those of you not in this district, this is the one which encompasses the Houston, Texas area.
Several years ago we were holding our DC in the Astrodome, the whole district on one weekend. I don't know the exact reasons for the move in venues but I have heard that it was because the price for the dome went up and we were no longer allowed to clean seats with tooth brushes to offset some of the cost.
For the past two years we were move to a college arena about a hour and a half away. In College Station Texas, yep....the town is called college station. Anyway, the arena there was actually nice, comfortable, parking was better than any other place I have been. The DC had to be cut up into I think 3 parts. Each part holding their own convention on consecutive weekends. This was not bad, in fact I think it was better than the Astrodome, even though you did not get to see everyone you were used to seeing. There were enough people to keep you busy and each year they rotated which circuits went with each other so you would get to see "new-old" friends each year. Oh yeah decent enough hotels, resturants, and a nice little town overall.
This year "the powers that be" decided to use a new venue in katy texas, which is about 30-45 minutes from houston. Let me tell you, this place SUCKED the big one. The seats were smaller harder and closer than any place I have ever been. The parking was complete ASS, it took me 3-4 SOLID minutes of walking at a brisk pace to reach the doors from my car. It was 500 degrees out there. I needed to take a new shower by the time I got to my seat. All of my loving brothers had to be warned to walk slowly and not run over the elderly and infirme because on saturday "Jehovah's People" had knocked somebody down. Praise Jah! I wonder why we don't get to hear that kind of experience from the platform?
This year they had to have 4 conventions instead of 3 and everybody had to squeeze in tight, they were putting onsies and twosies whereever there was an open seat. There were even a couple of hundred people sitting in the hallway where they had setup chairs. It was kind of funny going for a stroll around the arena during the talks and walking past about two hundred people just sitting there looking out the window. Like they were being punished ;).
Things were so tight I even got my wife to repeate the comment about how the invite track didn't make much sense because there was no room for any visitors to sit. LOL...
If I can think of more I will add later but this is about all I have time for, got to go to the J.O.B.
