  Do Satan and Jesus exist?

  since some seem perfectly at ease to depersonalize the holy spirit, and claim that any mention of the holy spirit as talking, or as "he, him, or his" are mere personifications, then this rule can be applied anywhere.. satan is not a real person.

  the bible only makes him sound like one because the bible writers all use personification whenever they talk about satan.

  why, because according to the arguments of some, wisdom is personified in proverbs, or the mountains cry out, or the trees laugh, that satan is not a person either.. but, but, but ... what about when jesus was tempted by satan in the wilderness?

  Little toe,

  trust me it is sarcasm because it starts out as "since some people feel at ease depersonalizing the Holy Spirit" and this is the issue Jim and I do not agree on. But on another thread I just said enough already. We have to agree to disagree in the name of Peace becuase we were going at it until late last night on the topic and not agreeing. Then, this piece turns up. It is what Jim does when someone disagrees. He does not just realize that he cannot control everyone else's beliefs only his own. And if you post an idea on a public forum, you are bound to have some who do not agree. But, you need to take it all in stride.

  i know this might sound abit "harsh" but i think it is time ex-jw's, new born agains, or people just interested in the bible put a stop to this "believe"in the trinity doctrine or go to eternal flames" madness.

  alot of innocent young one are being emotional damaged by this burn in hell fiasco.

  just like the wts "no blood"policy and if you take a blood transfusion you will be announced "no longer one of jw's" and shunned by your family and friends, the hell fire doctrine does alot of damage to the innocent mind on several levels.

  I consider myself "born again" for lack of a better term, actually spirit begotten would be better. And I never believed in the trinity or hellfire. Not even when I was raised a Roman Catholic. Revelation 21:8 tells you that the "lake of fire" simply is the second death. Or death with no hope of a resurrection. As far as the trinity, that is open to interpretation but I personally believe having experienced it that it is God's influence on believers. Hope this helps, good post.

  Jim,

  I have the answer for this post but refuse to give it because you have shown in this post and your previous ones that you have a tremendous ego and whenever someone disgrees with you, you throw a total tantrum. You are allowed your opinion on what or who you think the Holy Spirit is, but everyone else is also entitled to their opinion. I

  f you are posting information on a forum like this one, you will get opinions from people of all backgrounds and views. You are proving that you are not an open minded person. But yet, you want people to be open minded with you. No one is going to agree with everything you do and if you had the right Spirit, you would understand this.

  I was giving my personal views as someone who has experience the Holy Spirit first hand, I believe I would know what the nature of it is. I do not need the views of the early church fathers or anyone else on the matter. I have first hand experience.

  I wish you the best with your paper and trying to prove your point. I respectfully disagree but am not going to argue the point any longer. This is in the interest of peace.

  Are people on earth "pawns"in Jehovah and Satan's chess game?

  one of my best friends in the world pam who is a non-judgmental born-again christians told me that she thinks that we are only "pawns" in a chess game played by jehovah and satan.

  at first i thought pam was joking with me but she told me she was serious as a heart attack.

  she then started to explain her position.

  We are not pawns because we have free will to choose whether we want to do what is right or wrong. Even for those who believe in Satan, you cannot blame him for everything that is wrong in the world. I do believe we are part of a bigger picture but how much Satan is allowed to test people to see if they side with God, well, I just don't know about that. I do believe in a God bringing all things back to his original purpose but I can only speculate on all the datails of why, who and what.

  Leolaia and Jim,

  those were good posts. I agree with you both totally that Jesus and God were both equal in nature. I have no problem with that.

  But, as someone who has personally experienced the power of the Holy Spirit, I can attest to the fact that it is not a person. It is the power of God that he uses to influence people. That is why the in the bible it says that the writers of it where "borne along by holy spirit". God or Christ can pour it out on believers. I understand what the early church fathers taught but, that is only their way of explaining the nature of God, Jesus and the Holy spirit and the relationship between the three. They were just mere men and I choose to believe what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit, not any mans interpretation. I do not agree that the Apostles or any one else in the bible felt that the Holy Spirit was a person. People were filled with Holy Spirit in the OT also. this was not a new teaching. Just because Christ did not pour it out upon Christians until pentecost, does not mean that the early followers of him did not know what it was. So I think on this point, we will just have to disagree.

  But, clearly, the Holy Spirit was not talking in acts. The Holy Spirit moved people to speak and might have influenced them as to what to say, but it still is not a seperate person.

  As for now, we will just have to respectfully disagree or we can argue this point forever. Thanks again.

  Chris,

  wow! You had a really crazy zealot type witness to study with you. We had some of those in my old cong. but usually people are more balanced than that.

  As far as smoking - thats a good question. I know many who say prayer helped them give it up, but others say willpower. It was probably a little of both. It is good though because smoking is really bad for you. My mom died of Cancer, she was a big smoker. Hope you can leave the ciggs alone.

  Hi Chris,

  Welcome to the board, glad to have you!

  Glad to see you came to your senses early. I was a JW for 12 years. Anyway, all Religions are essentially man made so you can find things wrong with all of them. A good start though in persuing Christianity is to simply start by reading the New Testament. Christians are followers of Jesus Christ so you will learn, especially in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, all about Christ and his life and ministry.

  As far as a church which is good to attend for the fellowship - look for one that puts the Emphasis on God's Grace and not works. We cannot be saved by any works we do, it is only by God's grace that we can have everlasting life.

  The other thing is look for a church that uses the Bible. IF a group has their own books to interpret the Bible, this should raise a red flag. You do not need it. The bible is pretty self explainatory. Also for those who really are seeking truth, God will give you Holy Spirit if you ask for it. And this will help you understand the Bible better. But contrary to what the WT teaches, no one knows everything and can understand every scripture at this time. Some things are open to debate on.

  Jim,

  I forgot to address the statement you made about me lifting the verse out of context. I did not. I simply highlighted that it was the Prophet Agabus who spoke. Not the Holy Spirit himself. It was Agabus who grabbed at Paul's belt and then he declared "this is what the Holy Spirit says" then went on to say "I have set him apart.....etc.". I did get this point.

  But since it is Agabus who is actually speaking this proves my point that the Holy Spirit is not a person who can speak for himself. If he was, why was it Agabus who was making the proclomation about Paul and Barnabas? Why does it not say the Holy Spirit grabed at the belt of Paul and said............ Do you see what I mean? It was Agabus talking while filled with Holy Spirit.

  When people say the Holy Spirit told me or the Spirit moved me, or the Spirit directed me, what they are saying is that God's spirit is at work in them. All the Son's (and daughters) of God have this experience. They understand this is a manifestation of God's power that is influencing them.

  Is revenge sweet?

  a friend of mine recently told me that she had committed this "act of revenge" on an elders wife once.

  i know the elders wife too and she is such a snoody-nose in the air, my family is better than yours person.

  both her boys grew up witnesses and are in the org.
