How can someone who doesn't know the language..translate a book?
by Judas I. ini see people all the time trying to interpert the scriptures for other people who don't understand it.
my question is:.
a simple word like "fire" or "burned" in the bible.

Not every word and comma was put into the Bible by God himself. The bible writers, who were humans, wrote using their own abilities and language at that time to simply convey the thoughts of God. I can see no reason that they would use language we would be familiar with today. Language is always changing from generation to generation. When sometime does not fit with the rest of the bible, it is up to us to investigate more. For instance, how can some teach the hellfire doctrine and then teach God is Love? Isn't this a contradiction? With some easy research we can see that fire is used in the bible to signify total destruction, beyond repair. Fire burns things into ashes so it would be hard to reconstruct. Can't get more totally gone than that now can you?

Lots of Bethelites Not Happy With Downsizing
by Seeker4 ini had a long conversation last night with an old jw friend whose sister and brother-in-law are bethelites since the 1970s.
she is an artist, and he runs a small but important department there.. we were talking about the bethel downsizing (my friend was well aware of it), and i told him i figured his sister and b-i-l would be safe due to the fact that they are now in their 60s and have something close to 4 decades seniority.
but he said no, that they were worried that they would be asked to leave as well, sent into the circuit work or as special pioneers sent where the "need is great.".

JWD forum is another battleground for your souls.
by Spectrum inif you think about it, it's true.
what's the difference?
constant shifting sands, one minute the grains are over here then we seek to blow them over there.

I am starting to believe that some day all believers and unbelievers alike, will find out that we all
got most of it wrong! The time in between now and then is a learning experience for all mankind.
My biggest beef with most Christians (and I am one of them) is their narrow minded, idealistic view of everything. "we have all the answers and only right interpretations" - and you need to obey or be destroyed! This is such an UnChristian view its not even funny, it is sad. They go against their own Master, Jesus (whom they claim to follow) who by the way NEVER judged anyone for not believing in him EXCEPT the religious leaders of the day who were total hypocrites! Dumping a heavy burden on their lowly followers - sound familiar? This is exactly what ALL religious institutions do today. Jesus message was simple - go to him to be taught about God and free yourself from man made institutions claiming authority from God and abusing their self appointed authority. They showed by their works, there was nothing Godly about them. No wonder they wanted Jesus dead for exposing the truth about them. Even if you are an unbeliever, Jesus message on breaking free from religious institutions is a great teaching for all, no matter what we believe. I personally believe in having faith in God - but I am totally against man made religions, rules, and doctrines.
For all you "Christians" out there:
So we think we are "true" Christians, well if we are we need to take note of this fact: Jesus taught his followers that LOVE not HEAD KNOWLEDGE, BIBLE UNDERSTANDING, Nor being in a RIGHT RELIGION was how you would know his TRUE followers. It amazes me how this fact excapes many claiming to be Christians. Because how many of us Christians (myself included sometimes) judge everyone else as unworthy for not believing our narrow-minded, exclusive bible view? How many of us are awaiting or at one time were awaiting the destruction of most of mankind - so that we could practice our "true" religion with other like-minded believers. Does this not sound like a sick view to you, now that you see it here in writing? It is no wonder that many people cannot stand us and get sick of listening to us.The bible's message is supposed to be one of hope for the future - but WE make it about doom and destruction.
Of course this can go both ways and some unbelievers can be just as narrow-minded and forceful.
We should all be respectful of others beliefs, be willing to share ideas, agree to disagree, and most importantly treat others the way we would want to be treated. Christians need to first and foremost remember that the Bible is a book for believers. If someone is not a believer, why do we get upset if they do not express appreciation for our book? It has merit for us believers only. We cannot convert people to our way - most people become Christians (not including those baptised at birth by parents) because they feel a personal calling to do so. IF someone is not feeling that calling, why are we trying to force them into the faith? Scaring them with hellfire and total destruction to do so. We will be just like the Pharisees if we do that. We are messengers of Reconciliation and bringing all things back to God - not messengers of Doom.
Anyway, I am done with my rant for today, I realize, maybe I am the "idealist" as my views on how to treat others are much easier said than done! Have a nice day everyone. Lilly

Does my Dad really believe? Carbon Dating?
by Crumpet inlast night i watched a documentary about climate change on bbc1 by our own beloved david attenborough and for the first time with a little ad-lib commentary from mr crumpet i finally grasped how carbon dating works.
it showed a coal mine - open cast in china and explaiened how the coal comes from trees but that it takes hundreds of thousands of years to become coal.
my dad was a miner - a coal miner - travelling miles underground to get coal.

There are differences between some creationists beliefs. Some are young earth believers - some older earth believers. I personally believe the earth is older than most Christians believe because they take the geneology in the OT as being complete. But there are many bible scholars who say that several generations are skipped. Sometimes, according to Jewish Custom, a relative called a "son" was actually a grandson. Or great grandson. We also are really not sure how long the creative days were. We know a 24 hour day seems unlikely. Some say a day is like a 1,000 years - but this does not say a day IS a 1,000 years. It is merely showing that in God's eyes, a day is much longer than in our eyes because his time is infinite.
I believe you can agree with certain aspects of science and still be a believer in God and his word. Here is a website that briefly explains some of the current theories about the earth and some problems with them:

I always hated the we are the "ONE" and everyone else in the world in the scum of the earth attitude!
Meanwhile we all knew that there were many in the congregation who acted much WORSE than anyone we knew in the "world".
What arrogant, haughty, hypocrites!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but it shows the WT quoted their so-called experts in the Trinity brochure out of context and gives an overview of the real trinity teaching. Hope it helps,
