in the past, i've tried reasoning with my wife concerning the reading of religious materials to our children but the reasoning is not getting through.
she believes that since my oldest daughter prefers church to the kingdom hall (no surprise) that in order to provide any kind of 'true' religious instruction she must read wt material geared to the kiddies.
in the past, i reasoned that if she insists on reading material to her that will ultimately trash my way of life then i could do the same.

When this book came out, my kids (around 6 & 8) at the time asked me what a vulva was? I thought they meant volvo like the car but my daugther spelled it to me and I was like where the heck did you hear THAT word? She told me the great teacher book. I showed it to my husband and we threw the book in the trash.
I believe there are 2 chapters with language not appropriate for kids. I will see if I can find it in my notes. Lil

The truth is there are very few biblical texts that speak about homosexuality in the bible. How people can take these texts and use them as justification for abuse and violence towards gays is beyond me.

I got my business degree before becoming a jw. My hubby and I both were baptised at the same time, spent 10 years in. Now that we are out and he got his degree, I am taking biblical studies courses and hope to have a degree in a few years in biblical literature. I want to use it to teach on the college level. By the time I am done with this degree I will be 48!
I think its never too late to go back to school. We had a 70+ year old lady attend our area High School at Night, and graduate with her high school diploma with a regular graduating class in 2010. She is retired so did not need it for work. When a reporter asked her WHY she decided to finish High School at her age? She replied, because I just wanted to! She also said she had dropped out and married young and always did wonder if she could have finished, now she had her answer.
This lady is a great example for us uhm older folk seeking a degree. Peace, Lilly

we had a co looking for a certain experience for an assembly part coming up and the elders in my hall at the time sent him to see me, since i usually had good experiences out in field service.. anyway, after speaking with the co, i was sorry to inform him that i did not have an experience that suited the type he needed.
he told me that was o.k.
because he could use me anyway for another part.

What you wrote about the pioneer sister reminded me of the elders daughter in our hall who was a full time pioneer back when the hours were 100 per month, and noone I mean NO ONE EVER saw her out in service. She always claimed to do her witnessing informally and by sending out letters or doing phone witnessing. The thing was I was in charge of the phone witnessing in our hall for the sisters and she was NEVER in the group. Everyone just kept their mouths closed because he dad was the most feared elder of them all.

i came to full awareness recently after finding a work-mate who also had "seen the light" finally.. i was born/raised a jw, having made some pretty big sacrifices in the name of the organization, even moving to where the need was greater before the start of high school.
needless to say, small mid-west farm towns don't look too highly on jw's.

Thanks for sharing that story. It doesn't surprise me about the prom thing. Good for the kids who told the truth about the situation. The convention experiences are just manipulation tactics that is all. Peace, Lilly
