Are you tired of the whole atheist/believer debate?
by nicolaou ini'm usually the first one to stir this particular pot but it get's so frustrating to keep coming up against the same old arguments.
the phrase "banging your head against a brick wall" springs to mind.
how many times have believers argued for a designer but refused to answer the obvious question of the designer's origin?.

Here is a good link with information about the creationist/evolutionist arguement that mentions the missing generations. I know I have more info. Will post at a later date:

SOL,
Some who believe in God have a balanced view of evolution. I personally believe the earth is billions of years old. I am probably in the minority on this though as far as Christians in general. I believe that Science supports evidence of an itelligence behind the design of the universe. I realize that some do not wish to say it is God who is behind it. And that is o.k. with me personally.
I found some interesting facts about man while doing some deep bible research. It seems that in the OT, not every generation was listed from the time of Adam, onward. This is becuase for one, it would take up way too much room. And secondly, the geneologies where put in place to point to the lineage of the Messiah. Some generations too far in the past would not matter. It is only the ones closest to King David that mattered, as Christ came from Davids line. I don't know if anyone has discovered this before. Some Bible Scholars theorize that about three to five generations in between each one that is listed was left out. So, if this is true, the implication is that Man is much older than most creationists realize. And that Scientists and Anthropologists are closer to the true age of man. I will see if I can find some information on this and post it on the forum. Give me a few days.
I think that most God believers have not really looked into the evidence that Science gives because they feel it will weaken their faith or position. If they do look at it, they do so with a closed mind. I remember once telling my hubby that "adaptation" is a form of evolution and before I could explain what I meant, he nearly took my head off yelling about how all evolution is ungodly.
God and Science CAN be reconciled together and I encourage my children to look to science for proof of Gods existance or the intelligence behind it. To just dismiss it without investigating makes most Christians seem closed minded and uneducated.

Only these two:
I believe that God has the right to rule over his creation and has allowed time for man to try to govern himself - which has failed miserably
That Christ will come again and establish his kingdom on earth
All the information about God, Christ and the Kingdom and what the kingdom will be and who will benefit - the WT got completely wrong.
Please note: these are MY opinions only and are not open for debate. Thank you. lilly

Comments from "30 Years a Watchtower Slave" that surprised me.....
by AK - Jeff ini had begun to read schnell's book when we first left - but in the 'fresh out of the borg' mental state, i had found it too caustic.
now i am reading it and find it quite interesting due to the time frame - in judge rutherford's era.. one of the premises that he states repeatedly in the book, took me by surprise.
i would be curious if any could confirm/deny the reality of his accusations here.

lookingglass,
some of what you said is true, but too bad the WT although they fight for certain freedoms for themselves as a relgious group, has denied certain freedoms for their followers. The biggest is freedom of choice in religion. No human being deserves to loose all their family and friends and be slandered by the WT as apostates, devil worshippers, vomit, depraved, and all the other labels put on them, just because they have a difference of opinion regarding religion. It is not like the WT went out and tried to get these laws past to help ALL mankind. They were only out for themselves and as a result, others did benefit also. But, this was not their original intention.

The end of The Watchtower!
by Darth Yhwh ini was thinking about the wtbs this weekend as i mowed my lawn.
they have taken so much from my family in the form of money and most importantly time, that i have developed a hatred for them.. as i cut the grass, burning gasoline and contaminating the air, i realized that the watchtower is loosing ground.
fortunatly for my family my mother married a worldly man.

Darth,
I agree they are loosing ground. The kids of WT have much too much information available to them today, it is almost impossible to not see all the lies the WT tells. Thank God for the internet! This was a very valuable tool in helping me and my family out. Glad you are at peace.

Jim,
Thanks for those comments, I fully agree. I did not contribute any personal information about these tactics because I was not in the org. long enough nor privy to any of this info. So thanks for sharing that. I could not see why Schnell would have made it up or had an axe to grind. To me, his book did not come off that way at all. I also believe he was truly sorry for his involvemnet in the WT.
You mentioned some writings you did on Rutherford? You have my email, could you forward that information if you still have it? Thanks.

Looking for input on the "Rapture" doctrine...
by Jamelle insaw a documentary on tv this weekend about it.
have heard about the "left behind" series of books that deal with this belief.. one thing that caught my attention about the belief in the rapture was that it seemed very dark.
it seems to focus more on the scary things that are talked about in revelation than the message of peace and love that i admire in the teachings of christ.. the other thing that bothered me is that it seemed similar to the witnesses in that you have to be "saved" or you are going to die.

There is no word Rapture in the bible but the idea of the saints being caught up to heaven is taken from this bible verse;
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18 (New International Version)
15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words. The idea is that when Christ comes at the second Advent, he will resurrect the dead saints (believers in him) first, then those saints or believers alive on earth will be caught up with them. And they shall all be with Christ forever. Different churches teach different opinions on this. Some teach the dead in Christ go to heaven automatically when they die. But Pauls words here seem to say that they are all, living and dead, raised together with Christ at the same time. So therefore, I believe the dead Christians are still in the grave. The whole point of Pauls writing this is to show that those who died would not be taken to heaven without them. After this happens, there are differences of opinion as to what happens to those left on the earth. Some feel they are all destroyed. I don't because in Revelation it shows that there are savivors of the Great Tribulation. And I personally do not believe all those who are not Christians will be killed just for being in a spiritual darkness. (not my words but words of believers) Some feel that those on earth go thru a judgement period, think is closer to the truth I think. But, I won't go into detail with these views because I really have not studied these beliefs enough to comment. -

GB and their 'Hot Chicks'!
by Gill inhow many members of the governing body are married to women a lot younger than themselves, and how many are married to 'hot chicks'?

Amazing,
don't forget we have Viagra today. The GB menbers could have sex even in their 70s. Plus, they have more time for sex than the rank and file who are doing all the work and are more stressed. Isn't that just grand for the OLD COOTS?

Jeff,
I also have that book and what is very interesting about it is Scnell's perspective because he was around in the early days of the WT. It does seem that he was saying that Rutherford was orchestrating the whole event for sympathy for his movement. At least, that is the idea I got from the book. Since the WT from Rutherford on, has closely controlled information, it would be hard to prove it either way. But since Scnell was an "eyewitness" so to speak and was in the Org. during that time, I think his testimony would seem very credible. It does not surprise me when I find out about all the politics involved in the WT.
