In the Washington state Puget Sound area, the minimum price for either of these houses would be about $350,000. Garage with the vinyl siding and what appears to be a larger lot would be a plus. The newer look of the brick would be a plus. Just depends partly on taste of the buyer.

The more expensive house: Vinyl or Brick?
by YoursChelbie inthere is a significant difference in the prices of houses that are built of brick exterior to comparably sized ones with vinyl exterior.
i assumed brick costs more because it's more durable, but was surprised to find that brick houses such as the one i chose at random pictured here for sale in texas actually costs over 50k dollars less than the one with the vinyl exterior in the far northern us.
both have four bedrooms.

My kids are in the same age range as your daughter, although, they are all married now. I learned a few years ago that as much as I wanted to I could not always be throwing them a "life-preserver". Sometimes I had to let them sink once or twice. It was not easy, but they did learn from it. They know I will always be there for them when they seek advice or help, but now I wait for them to initiate it. It is hard to move from being our children's parents where we are the adult and they are the child to having a peer relationship with them, but the rewards are amazing when you do! I have learned that I can also count on my children to have wisdom and they will be there to help me when I need advice. Be patient. Praise

Getting perspective...
by Gregor incascade locks, oregon.
here in the heart of the columbia river gorge we live beneath the looming, snow covered crags of the cascade mountain range where the columbia river cuts through its spectacular canyon about 1500 feet deep and a mile wide.. we are on the oregon side of the river and when we step out on the porch we literally must look almost straight up to see the peaks.
i have been building a tool shed out in the back but can only work a couple of hours at a time because of the rain and cold of the last few weeks.

Hey Gregor! I also live in the NW and absolutely love Washington and Oregon and I've often thought that the rainy winters we have were so perfect for just cocooning away with a good book, hot chocolate, music, needlework or other projects. They offer us the opportunity to slow things down a bit and really reflect on what we have to be thankful for. My family sponsors children through World Vision who are in Ethiopia and Honduras and when I sometimes get too overwhelmed with my own problems I think of them and their families. Our family has had some rough times lately with medical issues and we have all just decided the best way to cope with the emotional and financial stress is one day at a time, sometimes just one hour or even five minutes at a time!! I will be thinking of you and will keep you in my prayers. Praise

Why I'm mad at god.
by Abandoned inthe past couple of days, i've been posting a lot about how disappointed and even disgusted i am with god and how he runs his universe.
i guess that probably offends some people.
i don't intend to make people feel bad, but here's what's been going on in my life lately:.

Hey Abandoned, I'm sorry you're going through this. My family's been having some problems that have some similarities to yours and it can seem so overwhelming. I know some of the other posters have offered to give you a phone call, and perhaps you even know some of them personally. Please call them or allow them to call you. When we can lean on our friends or family it can really lift the burden from us, and it's okay to share. I heard someone last week saying that we so often keep things to ourselves because we don't want to bother others or seem weak. But what we fail to see in doing that is that we can actually become just what the other person needs to fulfill their calling, or gift, to help others. If someone else can help you step by step through just one day or issue at a time it is so much easier. We don't need to deal with everything at once, and sometimes the perspective of another person who is not so emotionally involved in the issues can see how to prioritize with much greater clarity. Also, our family went and talked to the finance people at the hospital that provided care and had the bill greatly reduced because the hospital dedicates itself to providing a certain amount of care at reduced cost to those in need. You are in my prayers and I have faith that God does listen. Praise

Have you heard: "Worldly people just live for the holidays"
by Gopher inwhile i was a jw, around this time of year i would often hear jw's saying that non-jw's live only for their holidays, because that's all they have to look forward to.
after all, they don't have the wonderful hope of living in paradise on earth forever under the loving direction of jehovah's organization !!
so, for those of you who are former jw's or never were jw's, what would you say about that idea (wordly people only live for holidays), and why do jw's really say that?.

My experience with my dil's family and friends (all JW's) is that even though they say they don't celebrate the holidays, they are excited to go shopping for all the good buys (but they don't give gifts) and they always get together with each for a big meal and to play games.
Our family (all Biblical Christians) buy or make gifts for others, have a big meal together and play games. See any similarities here? The only thing different from the dil's family and congregation is that we also attend worship services on Christmas Eve. We get together to thank God for the gift of his son.
We've decided that we will spend the next year making scarves and hats and along with some purchased socks and gloves give them out to homeless people in our area when it starts to get cold next fall. That is what Christmas is about. "What you do for the least of these you do for me".

Do you understand the ransom?
by Fisherman inbecause i am a christian i accept the ransom with a leap of faith but undrstanding it is beyond my imagination.
i cannot justify torturing and killing the innocent, but that is only my thinking.
god must have good reasons for what he does.

Sinis - your last comments are just the point. That's why there is a ransom. The NT brings us the good news of how those things do not need to happen any longer. We are justified through Jesus' willingly, lovingly, offering himself in our place. God did not force the sacrifice upon him - they knew it would happen, but it was not forced by some powerful act of God. PEOPLE did this thing. It was the ultimate portrayal of love - to give your own life for others. Up until this time, people kept trying to make God (the I Am), as well as others, fit the molds that THEY envisioned gods to be. Jesus came with a very unexpected message that God was much different than what they had made him out to be. I do not understand the reasons behind many of the things that took place in the OT. I do, however, believe the NT message of forgiveness, justification and sanctification. I know that I am minuscule compared to God and I cannot understand everything, at least not at this point, anymore than my grandchildren can understand things from geometry to the stock market to biology. The older they get, the more they study, the more they spend time with more mature people, the more they will understand. Praise

Sinis - You said it's time to stop humanizing God, and then go ahead and do it yourself with your next words. YOU are trying to set the standard for what a just god would do. God has already told us what his requirements are, but we humans keep trying to make God more like us rather than making ourselves more like him.

The Christmas Star
by praiseband injw literature tries to persuade us that the star was actually sent by satan to guide the evil magi to the site of jesus and his family.
yet, the bible tells us in genesis that god was the creator of all the stars in the heavens.
nowhere that i am familiar with does the bible state that satan made any of the stars or any other celestial object.

Fish --- Thanks for the reply, but, just so you know....I and most Biblical Christians know that Jesus was not an infant at the time the magi visited. Over the years, the Christian church has been making great efforts in Bible studies, etc. to make this quite clear. I don't believe my question ever said or implied any such thing. You have obviously been reading WT info which always makes a point that this is taught in "Christendom" but that would be largely inaccurate. It has been made somewhat confusing, I will admit, when it has been portrayed in nativity scenes because, they haven't always made a point of changing scenery before introducing the magi into the production and want to jump to show all the characters involved in Jesus' baby life. But as I said, this is something that we have been emphasizing in our congregations. Also, I agree about portraying 3 magi vs 2+. We don't know how many there were and this is also something included in our studies. It's just easy to have 3 little kids carry the 3 gifts that were brought. Maybe we should consider some years having 2, and some years having 5 or 6. Next, I asked if anyone could show me where in the Bible it says Satan created a star. God is credited with creating stars - no one else. It is not good logic to just jump to a conclusion that because Herod had evil intentions, that the star which appeared had to have been created by Satan. Herod thought he could use the magi. Obviously he was mistaken. If Satan was powerful enough to create a star, he easily could have directed the magi back to Herod. They had information that they should not return to him. They chose not to. They could have chosen to have gone against the information to return, but they didn't. So, perhaps either they were really worshippers of God and really did come to worship the child, or God was at least powerful enough to send them a message which they chose to obey. If the info came to them while they were sleeping, would you conclude it either came from God, or Satan? Why would Satan, who you have essentially maintained they were followers of, direct them away from returning to Herod? And if they were his(Satan's) followers, and the message was from God, why would they obey God rather than Satan who they were serving? This is why the WT theory has bothered me so much. Other things may need a lot of research to verify the correct theology. Not this one. It's simple and their theory has absolutely no logic. Praise

Thanks for the info Sirona. It was interesting reading. I guess my greatest concern with the WTS stance is that they will claim the Bible is the authority (which I myself believe) but then they twist and turn and make assumptions based on what....? And they present it as fact. I am not finding anywhere in the Bible (their authority) where anyone but God made a star. Do any of you?

Yet, the Bible tells us in Genesis that God was the creator of all the stars in the heavens. Nowhere that I am familiar with does the Bible state that Satan made any of the stars or any other celestial object. The magi undoubtedly went to Herod in Jerusalem looking for the newborn king because they assumed that was the place to find royalty, and it was where the star had stood. I think God was using them to prepare Herod and the rest of the world for a new "kid on the block". Any comments? Praise
