We are a Return Visit for the Mormans

thought i sent this an hour ago, but apparently it didn't go.

for about a year morman elders called on us off and on.

finally clyde called it off.. but recently a new set of elders started coming.

Q- how are you? You and I have had friendly dialogues in the past and I hope it will always be that way. I agree with you, that violence against others to force your religious beliefs on them is wrong. The Christian church has a lot to be ashamed of in its past. However, even your Mormon heritage (as in prior to Joseph Smith) has the very same background. Your church says the Bible is one of the sacred books and this Biblical history is a part of your heritage also. So, I hope you weren't referring to only the other churches who call themselves Christian in item #1. Next, you asked "why are there so many churches all vying for converts without any recognizable authority?" There is a recognizable authority in Christian churches and it is Jesus Christ. No one else. That is what separates us in our beliefs. I joined this website so I could learn about others, not to be combative. I believe it is quite possible for people to have discussions without being mean-spirited or vicious. Most of the time on this website it is that way, and even very humorous! I have learned much and hope to continue.

Toilets and gender - very light hearted discussion

at work we have four toilets per floor of which two are male and two female - we have about a 10 - 1 balance of men to women and so we got to bitching about how unfair it is that they (the ladies) get two toilets while we have to hike around looking for an available stall.

these toilets are single occupant rooms (as a toilet prude these are my favourite toilets of all time!

- i can't do 2's in public except in dire emergencies) but we got to talking about some of the other offices where the toilets are larger etc.. and several people are in there at one time.

As a mom, and now grandma, it seems to have been quite a few years since I have actually used a bathroom alone! Seems there is always a little one on the edge of hysteria who insists you can not leave them alone even for that long. It is so nice to be needed!

God's name ??

i know this has probably been covered before, if so i apologize for dragging it up again.

1) is it acceptable just because its an accepted pronunciation to call god je-ho-vah

2) should the witnesses constantly be saying jehovah this and jehovah that, as it seems to me to be taking up gods name ( if it is correct ) in a worthless way.

My only feeling is that the JW written material is soooo obsessed and arrogant about the "fact" that they are the true religion using the true name, unlike the rest of us, but then go and tell us that no one is sure how to pronounce it. They will primarily use Jehovah even though their literature says it is probably pronounced more like Yah-weh. So, if it is so vitally important to use the proper name, and it is what sets them apart from others, why don't they pronounce it the way they say it is more likely to be correctly pronounced? It's the arrogance with no logic that bothers me. Myself, I don't think it matters so much. You worship and praise the one God and that is what counts with him, rather than all of us precisely pronouncing his name.

Small, but meaningful, moments of joy...

in my office building we have a cafeteria that is run by another company.

there is this one mexican woman who has just the most pleasant demeanor, every day.

she greets everyone with a smile and a "how are you today, my friend?".

Last night we took our church youth group out to do random acts of kindness...just because we could. It has been miserably hot here as it has in so many other places, so we wanted to go out. One thing we did was go into a very small sweets store downtown and told a couple of women shopping what we were doing and offered to buy them ice cream cones if they would like. You should have seen their faces! "Really? You would? Well, sure, that would be great!" As they were ordering theirs another couple entered the store and they looked concerned about how long their wait would be because there were so many of us. But we told them not to worry because we had already gotten ours to go. They didn't know we had purchased for the other women. Then, jokingly, the man said, "are you buying ours too?" And when we said sure, he was embarassed. It took a little talking to let him know we were sincere, but he and his wife were so appreciative. It was a fun night! And both couples said they would like to do something nice for someone else to "pay it forward".

ok, i was reading this chapter today in my back garden and was astounded at what i had just read.

every year as long as i have been a witness vs 28 is mentioned that a man should examine himself under scutiny before eating the bread and drinking the wine.

obviously implying that only the anointed are to partake of the emblems etc.

I have posted regarding those who partook in the first Lord's Supper previously. Read all four gospels carefully about the subject. Matthew, Mark and Luke ALL INCLUDE JUDAS. John does not include the eucharist. It may not be word for word the same, but the story is the same in this instance in the NWT and other versions. Then read the section of the JW book "What Does the Bible Really Teach?" on this subject (it is listed in the table of contents). The JW book tells you Judas had left, but as you will find, he clearly had not. I attended the memorial this year also and the speaker repeated the same false info. He clearly had not studied his Bible. Here's the big question....do you believer Judas is one of the annointed? Or is there far more to the eucharist than only being a part of a special select group of people? Is it truly a communion (a bonding of community) and God's/Jesus's way of bonding with that community - all of it? At that time, even though he was to soon betray Jesus, he had not done it yet. I believe Jesus was telling Judas that he loved him and wanted to have that bond with him - it was unconditional love.

the watchtower society is notorious for discouraging the brethren from performing acts of kindness and charity towards people of the world, claiming in their literature it is a waste of time or worse the funds may be absconded.

I sponsor 2 children through World Vision. A girl in Mozambique and a boy in Honduras. My husband and I are also volunteer directors of our church middle- and high-school youth group. This was a great inspirational question, because this week, we plan to take them out into town to do kind things (random acts or kindness or pay it forward type) just because we can. People are always so surprised when you do something just because...

Hey Q! Hope you've had a good weekend. How did your "tiny throwdown" with the elders go on Saturday? I sent you a pm, but you probably didn't recognize the name and respond. But, how convenient that a new thread should have started up that would be appropriate to ask the same question here. Your last reply to me (and I have really appreciated them) talked about God the Father and how you hope to attain the title of god yourself someday. I am wondering about your wife one day becoming a god. I am wondering about God the mother. I am assuming from previous info you have supplied that there is one. Do you pray to her also? If not, why? I am assuming there is one, because I understand that God the Father was once a regular human being with a regular physical body. Therefore, there has to be a female counterpart....correct? Can you tell me where they reside since they do have physical bodies. I'm sorry for the naivete of the questions, but since I'm trying to gain a basic understanding I have to start with elementary questions. Thanks! Praise

30gh Anniversary Celebration

well our children really surprised us, we were in the belief that we were meeting at my son's house and all of us going out to eat together to celebrate our 30th anniversary.

well, were we ever surprised when we got to his house we found a host of family and friends waiting there to see us and my brother from up in wyoming was there also.

we got to see people we hadn't seen for some over 2 years and even longer for others.

I am so sorry for the disappointment you suffered today due to the loss of a friendship. It is hard when you have invested so much of yourself into building up a relationship only to find out after so many years that it has been, apparently, one-sided. It almost feels like a divorce or a death. You are the kind of person more of us need as a friend - you are the kind who is always there and always supportive. I am not at all surprised that you and your wife were celebrating 30 years of marriage and your children wanted to show their love for you with this wonderful party! Value them and those who are truly your friends and pray for the others. I know you are angry now, but if you are able to calmly, but with feeling, share with the friends who didn't attend how it made you feel you will have a better chance of moving past this. I don't anticipate they will understand, but you will have had a chance to demonstrate to them true friendship. You never know what will be the catalyst for someone to change. God bless you both and congratulations!

JW obsession with dates, etc

i'm posting this not as a criticism, but as a perspective from a non-jw.

most christians would be sooooo boggled by the complete obsession with historical dates that jw's can argue back and forth about for ever it seems!

i'm not voicing an opinion here about whether there is merit to it or not.

I think everything in the Bible is important, and if that is the subject you really are called to explore and learn about, that's cool. The more we learn the better. Just an observation that most other Christians would find it "curious". Are there similar things you have observed with other Christian denominations?
