  The Beginning of the End for Me?

  well, friends, this could be the beginning of the end for me.

  im not sure what, if anything, is going to happen to me in the next few weeks, so ill have to wait and see.

  Wow, REM. This is big stuff. When the elders tried to get in touch with me, via e-mail, I was nervous just reading what they'd written. The idea of meeting with them in a judicial setting ... well, it must be about a billion times more nerve-racking than getting ready to deliver a #4 talk!

  I'm sure, of course, that you'll represent yourself well. It isn't a question of doubting the decisions you've made or feeling guilty, but rather facing the men who've tried to shape your life since you were a kid and telling them why you reject their ways. Anyway, because you represent yourself well, you'll probably be disfellowshipped.

  How is your wife doing in all of this? What does she think? What is her relationship with her parents like?

  Please post what happens. I'll be thinking of ya Monday evening (which will be Monday afternoon where you are).

  Wonder if any of us could do as well?

  So an 8-year-old mentality leads one to a fuller spiritual understanding of Christianity, is that it? I wonder what this kid would write once he grows up and starts reading a little. If, that is, a kid ever wrote it in the first place.

  I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.

  And...that's why I believe in God.

  So, I believe in him cause he'll kill me if I don't. Yeah, warm fuzzies all over the place.

  These aren't the only two legitimate possibilities. In fact, it's exactly this sort of unqualified black-and-white attitude that makes Witness doctrine so offensive to begin with. I applaud REM's notion of an "agnostic Witness." I don't think he is sitting on the fence -- on the contrary, he's been open in a public forum about his views and his identity, and he hasn't compromised that. How carefully did you read his post, Valis? Personally, I think it gets boring/pathetic when people pretend to have the last word about a thing they don't even understand.

  You're my hero, man! However did they find you? Anyway, I'm deeply impressed by your calm honesty in the situation -- it doesn't seem like you had a particular ax to grind, that you used the situation to step up on a soapbox and let loose some half-cocked invective against the Organization. I hope that, when I'm in a similar situation someday, I can present myself as intelligently as you did.

  People like us, I was once told by an impartial observer, have to live in a very real way with "the big questions." How many others of our generation have to struggle with religious and philosophical issues, knowing that their thinking will affect their lives and relationships in a very real way? Sometimes being an ex-Witness is a pain in the ass, but perhaps it makes us better, more thoughtful individuals, in a world that doesn't nurture the sort of thinking you've had to do.

  how do you stop crying......

  when you start reading rays book and find out that everything you know to be factual, the only constant, solid, truth in the universe is just nothing?

  i've known this in my head since i started reading posts here on xmas day but i have never really believed it.

  i thought i just wanted to believe it so that i could rid myself of some of this guilt i've always carried around.

  I was pretty pissed when I educated myself about the religion I'd been raised in, but never felt like slashing someone up. There will come a point where you will have to take responsibility for your own involvement with the religion, even if you were raised in it. Meanwhile, yes, it's hurtful. But homicidal resentment belongs to Witness doctrine.

  39 years for Mulan and dad!

  thirty nine years ago today, my parents were married.

  i am very greatful for that winter day in 1962!

  of course i wouldn't be here if they hadn't married, but more than that i am so lucky to have such wonderful parents who set an amazing example of how good a marriage can be.

  in 1972 the great irish balladeer don mcclean introduced the song "american pie.

  " it was and still is a classic.

  the song is full of symbolism and even to this day almost thirty years after the song was first introduced, mcclean will not reveal the real meanings behind much of that symbolism.. in that song, he sings about "the day the music died.

  My mom point blank said, that "Were having a Bible study and don't have time to listen to Christmas singing" I wish I could have seen the look on those singers faces!
