What I never was told, or even knew to research, was that the "slave" was getting the dates consistently wrong for about 100 yrs. The society should have told its flock all through the yrs they were guessing, hopeful, and admit they were wrong. It is not new light or adjustments in thinking, they were wrong, and I suffered for it. That's the light that went on in my head for me. I had to finally think about what I was following, I had to admit the society is just flat out wrong, and knows nothing more than any religion through the ages. And that comment is correct about trying to talk to the elders, they do not listen, it is like talking to cult members. They are programmed with responses and don't really hear what they are saying. I can really see it clearly now when I was sitting in the meetings and going door to door, its like, we are programmed to say certain things, that are just not true. Its very hard to explain to someone that hasn't experienced the "truth" themselves just how programmed the JWs are.

Fallacy of the "Light gets brighter" Teaching
by rassillon inthis is by no means a complete discussion of the subject but i will start it with my thoughts and i hope those smarter than me will contribute.. the wt teaches that the changes in doctrine and their understanding of the scriptures over the years is because as we get nearer the end of this system the "light gets brighter" or god allows(?
) a better understanding.
this is based off the scripture proverbs 4:18 which states.

Thank you sammielee - You expressed what I could not. I was one of those kids sitting in a KH and could hardly breathe from the anxiety. I was filled with terror, ingrained in my brain throughout childhood, terrified of imagined demon spirits in my bedroom at night. My parents took advantage of that fear instilled in me. I was abused physically many times by my loving JW parents. It turns out, they were the demons.

Why Can You See Through the Watchtower While Others Cannot?

compared with the six million jehovahs witnesses worldwide the .
so-called apostates are comparatively much smaller.

Well for me it was a slow process. I can't explain why or how the fog lifted. I asked a family member how the society was different from any other religious "worldly" corporation, with real estate, so forth. My family member just said "oh the society doesn't own any businesses, like stores, etc.". I was stunned by that reply, I wanted to say, isn't it obvious they're just interested in being rich? Isn't that what they accuse the catholics or other religions of? What does the society give back to its people (or anyone?), why is the society rich to begin with? What are their charitable works? I don't recall jesus living in a brooklyn highrise choosing what country he would like to visit, all paid for by other people.

I agree, what does that verse about light getting brighter have to do with policy or doctrine changes? It seems more about a personal journey. A wicked person will fall down into darkness by doing injury to himself or others, where an enlightened person (spiritual, i guess) would seek to do good in the world, be lifted up to a higher level in life. It has nothing to do with getting dates wrong, then changing your mind years later.

I've just started reading crisis of conscience and a lot of these posts I've read here make sense. In a way I feel he is protecting the society, and some of the points Franz makes don't seem that big of a deal. I find my mind wandering or skipping over parts - Not really a great expose. However, i will keep reading.

Feb 15, 2007 WT Article: Women: Obey Your Hubbies!!
by Mary inpage 18 is the pathetic craptower article, telling women (who have apparently gotten above themselves) that they must be "obedient" to their husbands.
the entire article is nauseating, and obviously written by bitter old men who have major issues with the opposite sex.
i'm not going to write the whole thing, but here's a few 'highlights':.

Notice how anyone who has had contact with JW know that they continually allow this weird old fashioned behavior between a man and a woman. They don't believe in evolution yet this seems like old cave man behavior from the movies, where the man drags the woman by the hair! Again the JW articles leave my head spinning.

I never did know what the society expected of us. If we're rich, do we sell our home and give the money to the society? Do they want all of us poor and living on the street?? I've been going to assemblies for yrs since i was a kid, and have never known what they wanted. It's always to beat us down or something. If you are successful, you should feel guilty, if you're poor, god will provide eventually. but you'd better not get an education!! Bizarre. My brain just imploded and I had to call it quits or I'd go insane(!)

Thank you for this thread. I agree with other comments, we sacrificed yet heard about the JW families and their ski lodges, new cars, yet I can't by a dvd? I cannot tell you how it felt to feel depressed, then attend a convention and actually become more depressed. I really wonder how I put up with this for so many yrs. I finally couldn't take it.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 12-31-06 WT Study (Discipline)

Supposedly the elders have been told starting January to seek out and call on all disfellowshipped persons in their territory. Perhaps that's why this article? I believe its another way the elders or servants can avoid walking door to door to count their time. The servants i have known are above such labor.
