I watched this with my JW family. My brother's comments on the girl going to the McFly comment 'She doesn't seem that spiritual really.'
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT FROM HER!?
He got a telling off for that one.
At least she's ok though...

They do actually place more than 50 of those tracts per publisher... :(
by Kudra intoo bad- some folks here did a calculation and said that evin if all dubs placed all their tracts they'd only cover 300 million of the earth's inhabitants (mainly in western lands where people toss them straight in the garbage), thus only reaching a maximum of 4 1/2 % of the earth's population... .
i think many publishers, inflamed with zeal, get packet after packet of 50 tracts each for "placement in the ministry".
(eeeee- i love using those buzzwords!

Most people in our Congregation have run out of tracts now. BUT Bethel only sent us exactly enough tracts so each publisher in the Congregation could have 50. The literature guy phoned Bethel and asked if we could have any more since so many people were asking for spares and being told there were none. The guy at Bethel told him that they couldn't send anymore as they had only printed 50 per publisher.
So, even though many will have placed more than 50, it can only balance out for those who haven't.
If anybody wants me to send you one, I've managed to round up over 150 now! :) -

JW's, are they primarily a Untited States religion?
by Outaservice inon another thread many made the comments that the congregations not in the united states seem to have different rules than elsewhere, and also more freedom.. do people in other countries think of it mostly as an american religion?
do australians for instance show reverence for the governing body as much as an american seems to?.

'Do Australians for instance show reverence for the Governing Body as much as an American seems to?'
I don't know about Australians, but in the UK very few people know the names of any of the Governing Body members, or at least very few of them. -

No blood transfusions?!!?
by jelloface ini hear that jehovahs witness wont take a blood transfusion because it is considered "eating blood".
how in the world is taking a blood transfusion considered eating blood?
you need blood in your veins to survive!

The Scriptural support they use is found at Acts 15:29:
29You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.
The logic they use is that if your doctor told you to abstain from alcohol, you wouldn't inject it into your vains.
They do however, allow you to take blood once it is broken down into fractions, which makes a bit of a mockery of their own teachings. -

1874 a date the Lord chose?
by lovelylil inthis interesting statement was made on a bible student forum and sent to me by one of my friends.
i have copied it the same way he sent it to me.
here a bs is explaining how the lord himself chose the date 1874 as his "invisible return".

I don't understand... how can you possibly get a date from looking at a pyramid? Which pyramids were these? Was Jesus meant to have inspired the builders to build in a way that would tell clever people he was gonna return in 1874? How did Russell know to look in pyramids, if they were never mentioned in the bible?

kn37 - 50 bible studies
by Zico inat the service meeting tonight the service overseer announced that the british bethel had received 50 requests for bible studies since the campaign.
this surprised me, though i suppose it's not really a huge amount, i wouldn't have expected that many.
also, our cong has run out of tracts, and we're only half way through the campaign, with lots of territory still to cover.
-
Zico
A population of 60 million in the UK, so yes, 50 is actually rubbish, though a few more will request studies between now and the end, but not enough to make that a decent figure when you break it down.

hi lilly,
I think I'll recycle them once the campaign's well over. May as well get some use out of them. Hopefully I can get a few more before the campaign's over!
