CO Disfellowshipped in UK
by konceptual99 inso, i have it on very good authority that a co has recently been disfellowshipped in the uk.
he has just finished serving the north west london area.
i don't know any details but perhaps there is someone who does know what happened.

Forgot to note that the story I'd heard about Colin Bird had him leaving the UK as the girl he met on the Internet was overseas, so this would fit in with Timmy's story.

Colin Bird was definitely df'ed, it was big news around where I'm from as he had been CO of my old Congregation. The story here was that he'd been df'ed after moving in with a girl he'd met on the internet. He'd already come off the Circuit work as his marriage had broken down and he was living seperately from his wife at the time. This all happened about a year ago now.
There was a stand-in CO, Bro. Paul Dosser who stood in at my Congregation (I never met him) a rumour also went round that he'd been df'ed, but it turned out to have been his brother!

Does the Gospel of Thomas support the view that Jesus used the divine name?
by slimboyfat inmost of the apocryphal gospels are dismissed by scholars as being too late to tell us anything useful about the historical jesus, but the gospel of thomas may be an exception.
when the jesus seminar (a group of around 200 scholars who study the historical jesus) debated which sayings attributed to jesus in the gospels were most likely authentic, they concluded that none of sayings in john's gospel were certainly authentic, but that three sayings in the gospel of thomas were unquestionably authentic.. this is the passage, from saying 13 in the gospel of thomas, that suggests jesus used the divine name:.
and he took him and withdrew and told him three things.

Hmmm... trying to use this argument to support watchtower doctrine would also raise the question as to why there's never any controversy when Jesus uses the name in the New World Translation. This argument actually contradicts the society's teaching on this as it would suggest Jesus only used the name in secret and was hardly making God's name known.

Is this valid reasoning for Trinitarian Doctrine?
by Flat_Accent ini had been watching jwfairytale's videos recently, and he's been including snippets of this short film about a guy that becomes a jw and then changes to a born again, or so i think.
you can watch it here.
it's very dated, but quite enjoyable:.

The New World Translation randomly inserts the name Jehovah into both these texts to make it appear as if it is referencing Jehovah here instead. This is inaccurate of course, and reads awkwardly, but I suspect you'd have to deal with this if you wanted to make this argument to a Jehovah's Witness.

Olympic Torch comes to town
by ballistic inso the olympic torch came by the other day, and who did we stand next to by accident to watch and celebrate, but a jehovah's witness couple.. now, even i know that the olympics is pagan in origin, and was for the greek gods so what are jehovah's witnesses doing celebrating it?.
the lady even had what appeared to be her book bag with her.. this makes the not celebrating of birthdays very hypocrytical..

Two elders in Wales carried the Olympic torch. One was disfellowshipped, the other 'showed repentance' so was only reproved and deleted as an elder.

Whilst I don't disagree, I do see an irony to a man who's knowingly built his millions by spreading lies and misinformation with no concern about destroying other people's lives calling another group evil for doing the same thing.

Does it matter if they're happy?
by Zico inthis is something i am conflicted about.. since leaving the jw religion, i have generally thought there are many jws i should leave alone.
if they are happy in the religion, i reasoned, why try to force a change in their beliefs, particularly among those older jws who have spent so long serving the wts?
certainly, i'd be willing to help any jw who clearly didn't seem to fit the religion, or couldn't live up to its rules, but there are some jws who i think would be happier in than they would be without it.. otoh, i have been thinking recently, that these jws by their presence in the religion, are providing the power to the society that allows them to damage/ruin so many other jws lives, so perhaps it doesn't matter what one jws personal situation is, perhaps i should be trying to 'free' everyone i can in an attempt to contribute to the society's eventual downfall.. what are your opinions on this?.

Sunday's Drama @ convention!!! OMG!!!
by itscrap&theyknowit! inthe drama -- i basically laughed hysterically!
i guess marriages are breaking up left and right within the organization.
a couple got married young.

Zico
I haven't seen the drama but did read the script. I imagined it was written by someone on the writing committee who was upset that the hot girls in his Congregation didn't date him when he was younger, even though he was so spiritual! I could not imagine a similar story being written from the male's perspective, as I think the men who wrote it would be more likely to see the absurdity of claiming that a marriage based on nothing but 'she always puts Jehovah first' would automatically be a success.

Sparlock has a different name in some other languages
by cedars ini know for a fact that our beloved hero sparlock has been given a different name in at least one other language version of the "become jehovah's friend" dvd.
caleb has also been given a different name in the same video.
obviously it makes a degree of sense to rename caleb according to names that are common in various different countries.

I assumed they came up with the name sparlock by mixing spell and warlock, so this name wouldn't make sense in another language. Have they done a similar thing with the name in your language Cedars?
