jayhawk, I hate it. I hate every minute of it. It gets harder every time I go. I don't know how much longer I can keep it up. I look at my children's trusting, ingenuous faces, and I feel like a complete dick letting them absorb this stuff.
It's the worst time of my life. I have never been unhappier.
But as I said... I'm going to try this, to save my marriage and get my wife out. I don't know if I can keep it up, but I'm going to try.

Overheard at the Service Meeting
by under_believer inthis week's service meeting had a part about how wonderful and awesome the theocratic ministry school is.
one guy said "this is a school that has been going on since jesus walked the earth.

Correct, earthtone--they don't grade publicly anymore. If there is negative feedback it is given in private.
On the one hand it alienates less people.
On the other hand it removes the last vestige of pretense that it's an actual school where you learn something. -

How do you anticipate the Watchtower's fall?
by JH inslowly and progressively, or rapidly after a specific date?.

I don't think religions really disappear, absent a Jim Jones-style kool-aid incident. I don't anticipate one of those, so I suspect that the Witnesses will probably be around for a good long time.
There are still Russellite-style Bible Students around, pyramidology and all, you know that? -

I'm thinking that John the Baptist probably had to work on Poise and Personal Appearance many, many times.

Vitty, I'm there because I want to keep my immediate family intact, and because supporting my wife in her endeavors (even if I disagree with them) is a way of demonstrating that I love her and am willing to sacrifice for our marriage. If I were unmarried, I would be long gone. It's likely that I wouldn't go if we didn't have kids, either, but we do.
I am working as hard as I can to non-invasively, non-offensively show her the problems with this religion, but just completely closing off that portion of our lives would almost certainly lead to divorce.
I'm reaching for the gold ring. If this requires me to endure the scorn of people who consider me a hypocrite, so be it. -

587 BC for Total Dunderheads
by Farkel inif you're a dunderhead on neo-babylonian history (like me) you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
since i had nothing better to do today, i decided to finally take the time it takes to understand why dub chronology on that date is wrong.
this piece of information alone should give you a clue about how bored i am!.

Got my copies of August and September Awakes today! Funny and sad story.
by hubert ini was in my truck in town and talking with my sis-in-law whom i met on a side street, and while we were discussing something, she noticed a group of 4 people, 2 women, and two girls, walking up and down the other side of the street, then they got in their car, and stayed there.
so, when she left, i pulled right up next to them, and asked them if they happened to be j.w.'s?
the driver gave me a huge smile, and said, "yes, we are!

My take is that you're reading too much into it and attributing way too much strategic thinking to the Society.
If they could lift the blood ban without legal problems, I think they would have years ago.
I think that's just a careless quote trying to illustrate how wonderful and magical blood is. It's encouraging that you noticed that contradiction (i.e. that it's an organ and organ xplants are okay, so why isn't blood xfusion okay?)--hopefully some Witnesses will too.
