Look: They have all of the same rules and regulations and apocalyptic opinions, but the Society has removed the social fellowship they used to get from the equation and they no longer have the expectation that it's just around the corner, no matter how much the Society beats that "deep, deep in the time of the end" drum.
All of the harmful stuff still exists, but none of the good stuff remains. No wonder so many people are getting depressed.

Hey greendawn... no offense but your post reads like a Watchtower article.
I always thought of him as an evil stone age nazi because the city of Babel that he built came to be the archetypal enemy of God's people, in other words his spirit lives on in the whore Babylon the great the ruthless and implaccable opponent of Jerusalem the virgin.
Where is the proof that he built it? And who were God's people at that time, anyways? And what proof is there linking ancient Babel to the whore of Babylon?
No doubt Nimrod viciously persecuted all those that wanted to stick to Noah's God and religion and sought to bring the then mankind under his rule putting on them a heavy yoke of slavery. The rabid rebel against God filled with violent hatred for Him and His people.
A famous Watchtowerism--"No doubt <baseless speculation>"
In other words he propagated that most ruinous sin, telling God to his face we don't want you, we don't need you, we will do our own thing. To sin without accountability to God. And the world suddenly got filled with all sorts of ugly things, wars, injustice, poverty, hatred, tragedy, slavery, human sacrifice etc. Peace vanished since that time.
Would you mind providing a scripture reference to back up those statements? Just curious where the Bible says that.

catbert, pretty inconsistent interpretation of "no part of the world." You may want to remember that Jesus followed that up with "just as I am no part of this world." You may want to crossreference that with the fact that Jesus ate with Pharisees and tax collectors, hung out with prostitutes, and knew how to party.
As far as the political neutrality goes, do you need your (rather noble, I think) inclination to be politically neutral to be vetted by a religion? Can't you be politically neutral by yourself?
In any case, in answer to the original poster, no. The reforms they'd have to make are too profound. It would never happen. -

Are Americans the prudes of the world?
by free2beme inwhen i went to europe, i saw nudity in commercials, and other sexual topics used to advertise products.
as an american, i was shocked to see such things in places that seemed out of place of such tools of such an extreme nature.
i tend to feel, even to this day, that public nudity in advertising is something that is over the top.

Agree with Forscher. In addition to his Middle East example, also see: Asia in its entirety and India. Americans are more prudish than Europeans, but much more liberated than most of the rest of the world.

juni, it's not really a religion. He's just a hateful elderly man that makes and publishes hate-tracts in comic book form. Lots of fundamentals love his stuff and order it for their "witnessing" purposes though.

I don't remember being afraid of any pictures, but my daughter was terrified of the picture of Jezebel about to be thrown out the window in "My Book of Bible Stories."

The Paradise Lost book piccies of Armageddon and the picture of Jonah in My Book of Bible Stories (I have a whale phobia).
Then that picture shouldn't have scared you--remember the Society teaches it was a fish. Remember all those gymnastics they'd go through to "prove" it?
