d&a, I'm sorry to hear your story... you will get through this and make new friends. You are already starting to, here. Getting out of the Witnesses is no fun, but it can be survived. Now if only I can get there myself...

So....here's my story....
by CordyC inhey guys, it's me- cordy, again with my life story of being in the jws.
i've lived in new york city almost all of my life and have been associated with the jws way too long- since i was a little kid- 8 years old in 1987, plus my mom studied as early as 1983. my mom didn't get baptized until 1995 and i myself got baptized at the age of 17 iin 1996. i know we were probably on a list at some point as a "non-progressive" bible study since it took us so long to get baptized.
my mom and dad split in 1993 and that year was great because we were barely at meetings....then we got a shepherding call and my mom got sucked right back in.

To endure that to help your mother is commendable. It's a difficult call, and it's your and ONLY your call, but it sounds like you're doing the right thing. Good luck. Keep posting on here. I'm still trapped in, too, and it helps a lot to be able to vent sometimes.

DC Drama: Mosaic Law == Being a Witness
by under_believer inokay, so i want to talk this one over with my wife, but i need to kick the idea around here a little bit first.
i apologize if this has already been covered.
at the district convention this year, they did a bit about how jeroboam didn't want the 10-tribe kingdom going down to jerusalem, so he tried to set up calf worship and his own set of festivals, etc.

At the District Convention this year, they did a bit about how Jeroboam didn't want the 10-tribe kingdom going down to Jerusalem, so he tried to set up calf worship and his own set of festivals, etc.
Anyways Act I was these two Israelite guys, brothers, talking to one of Jehovah's prophets about how hard it is to make it to the festivals, how one of them missed the first day of the festival, how there are TOO MANY festivals, and it's a burden, etc. It was clearly likening the heavy load of the Mosaic Law, all the festivals they had to do, with the load the Witnesses bear with all their meetings and service. Nobody in the audience missed this: people were chuckling about it.
Is it just me, or does it really tip the Watchtower's hand in a most profound way to be equating the obedience demanded by YHWH from the Israelites to a crushingly heavy load of laws, festivals, sacrifices, and rituals, to the duties that the Watchtower Society demands of its followers today?
They are essentially ignoring an entire Testament's worth of expressions of freedom from the Law, and saying that true Christianity demands just as heavy a (or a heavier) load than the Jews themselves were under!
Am I the only one who spotted this? Am I imagining it? Am I totally off base? -

I am 5'11". I am of average build. I could stand to lose ten pounds, no more. I am very inactive physically and should really start exercising.
I have a receding hairline, which has been developing since before I was 20. The remainder of my hair is thick, though. I mostly keep it cropped very close (#2 razor) for practical reasons.
I am the third person on this thread who has a small scar behind his left eyebrow: In my case I obtained it by falling off of a small ledge while backpacking and plunging headfirst into some rocks. Otherwise my face is undistinguished, though I am told that I have a piercing gaze and a generally intimidating aura. My visage is dominated by a large Jewish nose, a genetic heritage that is combined with German and Irish roots, though like many on the West Coast of the US I have no real ethnic identity.
I despise nothing in this world more than authoritarianism.
My politics are progressive. Though I was raised in "the truth", my beliefs are agnostic and have been for a couple of years now. This makes attending meetings a searing torture that I endure only because of my deep love for my wife.
I have very few longtime friends and I am practically estranged from them. I do not make friends easily or lightly. -

Answers only the WTBTS could know...
by Gill inquestion from readers aug 15th watchtower:.
all us ordinary folk, know that the bible gives no opinion on this and you would have to make up an answer for this question and, it being the wtbts, there's a chance the answer could vary with barometer readings.. after a lot of revelations scriptures we get to the nitty gritty:.
'thus, the death mentioned in the scriptures quoted above is the adamic death, which will be nullified by christ's ransom.

If God-given freedom of choice is essentially a choice to obey every single little detail that God passes out, or die instantly, it's no choice at all.
Furthermore, if an individual would never "misuse" their "freedom of choice," for all practical purposes they are automatons. -

"Go to your assignments, and die there"
by Nathan Natas infor the past week or so the above phrase has been bouncing around inside my head.. i think it is from a talk to a graduating class at gilead, but i cannot for the life of me nail down the source.. does this ring a bell for anyone?
do you recall when it was said, and by whom?
can you point to a source?.

My god. The level of extremism... any action, any stance, any atrocity, any sacrifice can be justified given the right mental context. If you believe in a resurrection to a better life, and that acting in a certain way will guarantee you that resurrection, then it is completely logical to GO TO YOUR ASSIGNMENT AND DIE.
Or to move to Africa, drink poison, and to force your little children, your babies, to do the same.
Or to fly an airplane into a tall building at hundreds of miles an hour.
Or to stand on a street corner with a kalashnikov and shoot everyone who walks by--they will get resurrected if they die before Armageddon, right?
Or to waste your entire life, the one shot you have, the one chance at living, in superstition, fear, oppression, and fruitless, mindless, aimless subservient activity. Forego having children. Forego using your abilities. Forego every beautiful possibility this world places in front of you because you are expecting a bright, perfect future. -

He was DF'ed for apostacy. He wrote a letter of explanation to his friends here. He believes he is anointed.
Excerpt:
Regrettably, I have been disfellowshipped from the Organization on the grounds of apostasy, and it will soon be formally announced to the congregation that I am "no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses". I completely reject this false charge and I appealed the decision of the Body of Elders. Unfortunately, my appeal was to no avail and therefore I am left with no other option at this time but to wait for Jehovah to straighten this out in His own due time.
...and:
I know that you have noticed a change in me, from what I was, to what I became to you. Quite a few of you have expressed positive thoughts toward this change. I could only direct all praise to Jehovah. Last year our Father was gracious enough to give me an anointing, though I didn't deserve it all. It is an undeserved kindness on His part to allow me a small measure of His Holy spirit that was able to transform me and turn my life around. My brothers and sisters I can attest to the power and the reality of the Holy spirit.
