The way it was always read, "as some people consider slowness" was always uttered in a sarcastic tone of voice, and then that phrase was used to "highlight" the idea that God operates on his own timetable, not on some human timetable, or according to human expectations. This was customarily followed up with Habakkuk 2:3, "For [the] vision is yet for the appointed time, and it keeps panting on to the end, and it will not tell a lie. Even if it should delay, keep in expectation of it; for it will without fail come true. It will not be late."
My point is that there are two distict, irreconcilable viewpoints: a) that God is waiting for everyone who desires repentance to get in, and b) that the time is actually set in stone, and God isn't waiting, and everyone better get in.
Which is it? Can't be both.

Reading the Bible Made Me Leave "The Truth" & Christianity
by Seeker4 ini was looking up a couple of verses the other day in my nwt reference bible the one with larger print, footnotes, cross references, etc.
in my day i was quite a diligent student - the bible is filled with my notes and comments, and i'd already worn out another one earlier.
one of the things that i found surprising as i was reading my notes, was how often they were pointing out inconsistencies, contradictions and obvious lies in the biblical text.

Gregor, when my kids ask that, I'm always like "Oh man, we have HOURS left." Sometimes my wife will ask "Do I look good in this dress?" And while the answer is usually yes (she's pretty fab) every once in a while I'm obliged to say "honey, that dress is hideous."
Guess it's a byproduct of being lied to for years--I can't bear to lie to anyone. It'll get me in trouble someday.
In any case, Seeker's basic point is profound for me--the more I learned about the Bible in independent study, the more source material I had for my eventual fall. Nothing that I studied specifically threw me out of "the truth", but I'd read one thing, and it wouldn't make sense, and I'd push it away because that was "independent thinking". And then this would happen the next week. And the next week. And I was always successful, pushing it away, because the alternative was unthinkable... until it wasn't unthinkable anymore. -

Yes. Memorial attendance figures are an internal morale booster and an external marketing tool. Otherwise they are meaningless, they have no practical meaning or value.

1971 is the first sighting I can find of the "deep in the time of the end" meme. So, in the same spirit as Blondie's submission:
*** w71 3/1 p. 138 par. 21 How Is Your Heart? ***
Today, even deep into the “time of the end,” Jehovah’s witnesses are finding thousands whose hearts prove to be receptive to the Word of God, heeding the counsel: “Put away all filthiness and that superfluous thing, badness, and accept with mildness the implanting of the word which is able to save your souls.”*** w72 4/1 p. 216 par. 18 Do Not Beg Off, But Be Industrious Down to the End ***
From our Bible study we have learned that we are living deep in the “time of the end.”*** w73 2/1 p. 70 par. 6 Are You Living for What You Can Get Out of Life Now? ***
As we compare Scripture with the physical facts around us, there can be no doubt that we are deep into the time of the end of this ungodly system.*** w84 11/15 p. 23 par. 12 “The Time Left Is Reduced” ***
Much additional evidence could be presented to prove that we are deep in “the time of the end.” (Daniel 12:4) But no doubt the greatest proof that we are near the end of this system is the worldwide Kingdom-preaching work being done by Jehovah’s Witnesses.*** w89 1/15 p. 20 par. 21 How Baptism Can Save Us ***
Especially now is it vital that we have the “mark” and retain it, for we are deep into “the time of the end.” (Daniel 12:4) To be saved we must ‘endure to the end’ of our present life or of this system.*** w93 1/15 p. 6 ‘Caught Away to Meet the Lord’—How? ***
Inasmuch as Jesus’ royal presence began in 1914, we are now deep into this world’s “time of the end.”*** w99 12/1 p. 19 par. 17 Be Happy Readers of the Book of Revelation ***
We are living so deep in the time of the end that relevant events foretold in Revelation must surely soon occur in quick succession.*** w01 7/15 p. 24 ‘Blessings Are for the Righteous One’ ***
To true Christians living deep in the time of the end , these words are indeed precious.*** w05 5/1 p. 13 par. 19 The Resurrection—A Teaching That Affects You ***
19 We live deep in the time of the end and nearer the start of Christ’s Millennial Rule than when we first became believers. -

Analysis of a Time Consuming System: Shocking Numbers about JWs

When I was pioneering, I spent 1,000 hours (real, honest-to-god hours) in the field ministry alone. My load during those years was probably more like 1,600-1,900 hours per year.

ANSWER TWO
Again, the Holy Spirit is the one doing the appointing, not the men.
For this method, you only have to show up at all the meetings, comment some during the Q&A's (you may simply read verbatim back what the paragraph says), and turn in a "time slip" with at least 10 hours on it. The Holy Spirit does not care if you actually put in this time. The Holy Spirit only wants you to turn in the slip with the time on it. It is inconsequential to the Holy Spirit whether the men it uses to appoint you believe that you put in this time or not--the Holy Spirit is the one that does the deciding here.
