I have to say that I did. More than once, too. I believed that they really were looking out for the interests of the "great crowd of other sheep" (Rev something, John something)and I should care about them. Imagine my shock, dismay and disgust when I read what Nutter Franz' nephew Ray had to say about them in CofC and ISofCF!

There's a boatload. But I am picking these 5. 1. Reading lots of non-WT material 2. Finding out there is no Satan 3. Finding out worldly people are generally good folk 4. Having more time for myself 5. Not having to witness to people about something that was basically embarassing

THEY'VE DONE IT!!!! The WBTS set a new date!
by dmouse inthe latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.
ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.
but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

Well, I read (quickly) the comments made and I vote for ..... this is a new punt-date in the makings. The 1874 people came and went by 1925, the 1925 people came and went by 1975 and the 1975 people will be long gone by 2034. It's handy to be able to completely reinvent yourself (with little really changing) every 50 years. Remember in Ray Franz' book about the "serious" presentation by a couple of GB bods to change 1914 to 1957 (Sputnik becoming the diddlybob in the heavens "fulfillment") I want a "Do More by '34" T shirt, who's selling 'em? Glen who once was Deleted. All along the Watchtower ...... told a pack of lies ..... broken hearts and promises .... so much wasted time

How many have left the WTS and joined another church/group?
by BLISSISIGNORANCE inat this point in my life i don't think i could trust any religious group.
i don't even feel the need to be a part of anything like that right now, and maybe never will.. but i know of some who have joined other churches/groups since leaving the borg.. why do some join another religion and why won't some ever get involved again?.
what makes us so different?.

I joined the Universal Life Church and have a doctorate, it cost less than $100 off the internet. I did it as the ultimate joke, but I have officiated two weddings. I have a terribly jaundiced view of all religion, which is a shame as they are not all like the dubs. I had been thinking about attending a UU church since I heard good things about it.

Poll - What kind of Ancient People are YOU???
by LittleToe inare you: a minority group called "jew" a majority group called "greek" a minority group called "christian"
to believe in christ, the jews asked for a powerful sign, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the greeks appealed to logic and wisdom, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the christians simply believed, and treated it as a personal calling.. which category do you believe you fall into 1, 2 or 3?.
.. 1cor.1:22-25 - the message.

There's a 4th group (assuming that #3 relates to the polemics of Johannine Christians) and that's Thomas Christians and other so called heretics/gnostics. I am now in that camp, wishing I had read Elaine Pagels' books in 1981 instead of 1999 and then I would have JW implants out of my system before now.

Did anything a householder said ever make an impression on you?
by Alleymom incoming at this as a householder rather than an ex-jw, i'd love to hear from any of you about comments from householders that made an impression on you, back when you were active in the door-to-door work.
since the jw's first knocked at my door 13 years ago, i've done my best to give them something to think about every time they knock at my door.
i always introduce myself by name and try to get their names.

Good question. 1. We were placing the Creation book and I started off on some point about Noah's flood and if it really could have happened. The householder looked at me and said "Really, now what difference does that make?" I told him he was right, I packed up my stuff and left. I remember thinking as I left, What difference does any of this make. 2. A long-time return visit asked me why the Watchtowers had nothing new in them, it's the same message over and over again. I could't answer that one.

by integ inone of my witness family members agreed to take a look at crisis of conscience, and after.
perusing the first couple of chapters, said that she thought it could be all made up.
agreed that the documents presented could be legitimate, but as far as franz's personal.

The sad fact is, most JWs will have to hit "Rock Bottom" before they start to see the real truth.
Right on the money, Love! I'd add that it's not just once. For me my own "deletion" when I just wanted to step down and the first inquisition (on smoking a couple of cigs) that my daughter went through weren't enough. It was until her second inquisition (stemming from a report that a worldly girl smoked with her) that I started to see this for what it was. I said to the two inquisitor-elders that came by 9 months later that if they had spent as much time encouraging the kids as they did questioning them perhaps there would have been a better outcome. None of the teenage girls who were ratted on back in 96 stayed in Dubdom, even the girl who did the ratting.
Until then I was a company man and IF I would have read (more likely scanned) I would have only been able to conclude he RF must have been the typical disgruntled xdub.

How Screwed Up Are You Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness???
by minimus inafter reading so many experiences about how being a jw affected a person's life, i wonder how your life has turned out because you were at one time a witness.

I was an adult convert and conclude I was screwed up already. Dubdom emphasized my fears and provided their way out. Since leaving I was diagnosed bi-polar and since I have been taking Tegretol my life came into balance. I particularly feel for the raised-in-its - it's a lousy life for vibrant young people. My advice is to live a double life and leave when it makes sense to do so.

OUT OF THE MOUTH OF A BABE
by Dansk ini was informed the following incident actually took place: .
two elders were having a conversation at the front of the kingdom hall when a little girl walked up behind one and then came around to his front and looked up at his face.
she then went back behind him and looked at the back of his head, before coming round again to look back up at his face.

Not quite the same but it has stayed with me since: After we were out about 3 months I asked my then 16 year old son how he felt about not going to meetings. Since he was always a good little JW, I thought he might feel bad about it or us. Without a blink he said "I just feel that we left a minimum security cult". And that was that.

Did you cheat on your monthly report?
by JH ini was always honest with my field service reports, until the time when an elder came over to give me hell because i had only 1 hour that month in the field service.
i told him that i was working 50 hours a week, had a 4 day district convention that month and couldn't do miracles that month.
he never accepted my explanation.. .

When we were really in it I would keep track diligently and even deflate my hours if I didn't do anything other than sit in the car waiting for someone's return, or if on a break the coffee and cinnamon roll took too long. My wife was a pioneer in those days so she took every hour she could possibly could. Isn't it funny how a measurement becomes the goal? If the judgement from the elders and CO was on success in service rather than time then maybe it would take less than 3500 hours to train a dub to baptism. If this was a real sales organization the overseers would be booted out for such poor performance.
