Ever met a CO's wife who was healthy and happy?
by Nellie ini just read another topic about cos and it got me thinking .
almost every single co's wife was sick and terribly unhappy.
i remember listening to them complain about not having a home, not having children, the accomodations of the friends, etc.

When I was young I thought the CO’s and DO’s have the best job in the world. I didn’t understand why the wives complained about having so little time with each other and that their lives were fully planned out by the society.
When a long-time German DO was assigned to be a Gilead instructor for the German branch I went up to them and told them that, wow, they must be so exited and happy about this. The DO related that he never expected an assignment like this at his old age (70+), but he feels privileged having meetings with gb members, the Adams’ brothers and U. Glass. His wife was not happy at all, she sounded like it was more of a punishment and not a reward for all their hard work over so many years. Now she has even less time to spend with her husband she lamented. When she complained to the German branch overseer she said he told her, "Jehova hat dir nichts genommen, er hat dir gegeben! (Jehovah has not taken anything away from you, he has given you!)" It’s interesting that the Branch overseer said this, since he is the one who gave that assignment.
Bethelites and missionaries always had the very same complain.

Jesus .... the first great magician?
by collegegirl21 ini was talking with one of my guy friends because i'm not sure what i believe right now and he asked me this question, "what if jesus was just the first great magician?
" he pointed out that magicians now could walk on water, and do other miraculous things that "ordinary" people couldn't normally do.
so i pose the question to you: what do you think about jesus being the first great magician?

If he was a magician he was certainly not the first... Magic is as old as mankind, as the Bible itself testifies (cf. the magicians at Pharaoh's court in Exodus or in Daniel's story for instance). And it was no mere "entertainment" as in our society.

OnTheWayOut,
If your talk is not 100% in line with the watchtower, the school overseer or the PO will have to make corrections (if possible) right after your talk.
Not true anymore. In principle, they would do this, but the school format in the last 4 years has not allowed for negative criticism of information in talks, plus the Bible Highlights is only assigned to qualified brothers (those qualified to teach). There is no time for correction of information given, the meeting must move on.
If presented correctly, the brothers will say absolutely nothing. If stated in a way that really goes against WTS opinions, then the School overseer or PO (along with another elder maybe) will simply have a talk with you. Be ready to show that the information showed how you were right. This will start to pull the mask down.
THX, that’s interesting. I remember the arrangement that even if a visiting speaker (elder or ms "qualified to teach") presents ideas not in line with present wt truth the PO should take over the chairmanship and clarify matters to the congregation right after the public talk. Or the wt study should be shortened for the PO to give concluding remarks. The speaker can even be interrupted, but this only by the PO. Counseling the visiting speaker should only be done by the PO.
That’s an interesting change and a slackening of control to a certain extent. I guess for interested ones to experience an obvious disagreement from the platform is more disturbing than the "disinformation" itself, which can later be clarified.
That’s great, fading brothers giving their "goodbye speech" can state their reasons without fear of being interrupted.
How was this change announced?

R6,
I think you know jws are expected to do just as the society tells them to do or what not to do. Most jws try to do what the wts wants them to do, but the few that disagree with the policies will not advertise this from the platform. I have never heard a jw openly disagree about the dangers of higher studies during the wt study. Do they do that in your congregation?
Was your DC program different to all others? Why the constant reminders about the near end, the preaching work, meeting attendance, higher studies, independent thinking?
In what way are the young ones in your congregation encouraged to continue studying after high school? Definitely not through the pages of the wt. I am sure this encouragement does not come from the platform or conventions.
