I feel like taking a risk on the platform tomorrow night.

In my bible highlights part, I am going to espouse a pro-soup kitchen/salvation army/homeless shelter view. Right on the heels of that, I'm going to support (higher) education as a means of bettering ones' self.

What will I get: Insta-JC? Front of the hall talk? Dirty looks?

It's time to push it that envelope.

    Update after the talk.

Sounds interesting. Why are you still in?

I'm still in because for one, I haven't gotten out the house. That needs to happen first. Secondly, all my friends are still in, not to mention immediate family and grandparents.

I'm in because I'm trapped. If I up and left tomorrow, the bottom would drop out of everything, and I'd be vulnerable, just like the Borg wants. My mask is on, but I feel like dropping it...just slightly...to see what happens. Now of course, you can't outright say what you want in a talk...but the hints will be there. And it will not be the typical WTS line.

    Hi Sir Nose

Sorry to hear that you feel trapped!! All the best for with your talk. Will be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes.

Excellent, today I whish I had done something like that.

If your talk is not 100% in line with the watchtower, the school overseer or the PO will have to make corrections (if possible) right after your talk. That will be interesting. The more reasonable (from the scriptures) you make it, the more difficult it will be for the elder to "clarify" your misunderstanding (of wt policies).

Reminding them of Daniel and the princes or even Paul who enjoyed higher education and comparing that to the applications for bethel service. How much more valuable you are when you are better educated most of all it makes it easier to care for a family in these critical times.

I don’t think they can call a JC on you, you only stated what you understand from the bible and it is what your bible trained conscience agrees with. Oh wait, isn’t that apostasy? I guess the overall tone of your talk will be the decisive factor. Maybe not a JC, but your ministerial servant privileges might be questioned, which means no teaching assignments for a whole while.

Yes, put it on tape if you can and especially the follow-up of the overseer.

When you say that your friends are also "still in", you should realize that as soon as you are no longer "in" yourself, most if not all of those people will no longer be your friends. Interested to hear how the talk turns out, though.

Sounds great. Can you type up a few lines from you talk for us?

If you are not in a position to leave home are you sure that you want to rock the boat just yet?

Here is the key to getting away with saying the right thing in a talk. Always include a mainstay dub scripture. You can say whatever you want in a talk at the hall as long as you have one of their bread and butter scriptures weaved in you should be straight. Oh and one more thing thats good to have is a good WT quote or something one of the governing body said. Here is a nugget for you, when I was at Bethel in the mid 90's it was chic to state that 'the society needed capable smart brother' s who have had specialized secular training.' You can read into that statement what you want, hell tell them that this was a stament that bro couch made to new bethelites 10 years ago (he probably did I was just not paying attention.)

Please let us know how it goes.

I understand you want to do this. But do you have a back up plan? Are you ready to be out on your own? Do you have another support system? You know once the ball is rolling, you can't stop it. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. Don't do anything stupid until you have all your ducks in a row, so to speak.

Just want you to be prepared for the fall out.
