The DO wife certainly did not interpret it as being given a wonderful privileges by Jehovah. To me she sounded like they were given no choice.. "Do as you are told and don't complain!"

Thank you brotherdan, but there must have been a definite attempt to set up a school. The DO was with our cong. for a couple of months. He also told me that he was in Patterson and was instructed by Don Adams in preparation for his new assignment.
The school was to be conducted in English. -

The DO couple was not very happy about the assignment due to their age. The DOs wife told me that she complained to the branch overseer Willi Pohle that her husband is to old for that and that they are taking away her husband from her. The branch overseer told her, "Jahovah has not taken anything away from you, Jehovah has given you!"

I was a member of an English-speaking congregation in Germany. Before I started fading a German "branch" of the Gilead School was being set up in the German Branch Office. A long time and well known DO Dietrich Förster was assigned to our cong. in order to improve his English. That was because he was to become the registrator/instructor for the school.
I have never heard mention of the German Gilead School since I left.
Was it ever set up? Is it still there? Have there been schools for missionary training in other countries as well? Has the down-sizing have an effect?

Discussion involving my Dad & other long timers - Mood is definately different

nice experience!!! Would have loved to be there too! Very good that you were able not to say too much.
Billy, I think it was always that way. Very few in the congregation would regularly read the wt & awake. When I had to do microphone service I could see that hardly anyone was prepared for the wt study. The conductor often complained to the cong. that he keeps having to call on the same people to give answers. By the way, we were classed as strong congregation having two former COs, ex missionaries and bethelites, two special pioneers, 14 reg. pios, a few reg. aux. pios and aux. pios!!!
The guilty feeling of not having done all that we are supposed to do had a certain grip on me then and I believe on many who are still in. -

I don't think jws is worse than any other organisation or religion. Although the jw has been the worst religion in my life.

Smurf Rumors - 2 Questions
by A question inas the board no doubt knows, there was some sort of rumor in the early 1980s going around amongst the witnesses that a smurf doll came to life in the kingdom hall, or that smurfs were demonic.. 2 questions:.
1. do any not remember any such rumors though they were witnesses at the time?.
2. of those who do, did all the witnesses believe them, or otherwise, what proportion rejected the rumor as nonsense?.

over here the story was, a Smurf doll came to life during the wt study and walked out of the kh. At that time I believed all the demon and angel stories, but this I could not believe. Many thought this Smurf story was true. I can't say if those who had doubts were more or less.
The elder who told me about this said, "Smurfs are magic creatures so they are demonic."
I asked him, "why would a powerful spirit creature bother doing something like that?"
Elder: "Well, the brothers would not lie to us!" -

A Concerned Elder Speaks
by Franklin Massey ina lot of talk has centered around information dispensed at the recent km schools.
many brothers feel there is a "tightening up" taking place.
i had a recent experience that you may find interesting.. after the meeting i was working with our cobe on some congregation tasks when out of nowhere he said, "have you looked up any extra information about higher education since the km school?

How will the congregation react when it becomes known that a long serving elder gets removed for letting his children go to university? Has anyone experienced that? Please relate.
