Hi, I'm new
by Diva inhi, this is my first post but ive been lurking around this discussion board for some time now.
my husband (the borg) occasionally posts and i had the pleasure of meeting some great people at the apostofest in covent garden, london last year arranged by bestie and sweetpea , hi to you both and hi to freetothink, mr majestic and everyone that was there hope youre all ok.. my story in a nutshell: raised a jw from birth, my whole family, expect one brother and sister (disfellowshipped) are still jws - basically i was raised in a family who were considered one of the pillars of the congregation, we all pioneered and did the whole witness thing, in fact one of my sisters is a missionary.
my whole jw world crumbled when i learnt about the jw/un connection and from that moment on there was no turning back.

Local elders training an elder from bethel how to do spying does not sound right to me. It would be the other way around.
But jws do spy on each other, as they keep the congregation clean . After the new the elder handbook "pay attention" came out, I remember, that if a member is suspected of fornication, but didnt admit to the elders, having two servants or brothers in good standing witness the person go to the home of the opposite sex at night or for many hours, this was sufficient to d'f the suspected wrongdoer.
I was invited to spy on a brother critical about the society. The other servant and me were to follow the brother by car and sit, wait and watch where his go at night. His wife believed he had another woman... -

Limiting comments by kids during WT Study
by navytownroger ini was told recently by a ministerial servant that the word had come down from above that from now on only two comments by children will be allowed during the wt study.
the reason: the meetings are geared to adults, not children.
has anyone else heard of this policy??

I doubt this is coming from the very top. So many are leaving the org and a large portion of bap. candidates are children of jws. I believe the wts will focus more and more on getting children involved. Also children giving answers and having parts during the program adds to the effective love bombing in order to impress visitors. Maybe a local wt conductor went over board (and over time) having (his own?)children giving lengthy answers and somebody didnt like it...

Why we must obey the F&DS - according to this "brother"

a "deeply concerned" jw relative (who knows i have soured on the whole jw thing) emailed this to me in hopes that it would improve my attitude.
at first i was just going to thank them for their concern and for the "encourgaging" email, but then i decided i must respond to this.

LETTER RECEIVED FROM AN OLD JW ACQUAINTANCE
by Terry inseveral weeks ago i attended a jehovah's witness funeral.
it was for my (former) best friend's mother.. i posted that account and of how surprised i was to meet old friends, "brothers" and "sisters" from my active jw days of old.. they treated me spontaneously with affection.. i got the following letter the other day from pamela.
she was the wife of another friend of mine.

Do you thing the JW organization will ever do away with disfellowshipping?
by jetery ini know of several of my friends who have been disfellowshipped for years and see no need to come back.
they tell me the dont miss the meetings at all.
one of the main reasons they dont come back is because of the way they were treated before they were df.

I can imagine that the wt will do away with the official and public procedure of d'fing people, but its membership will be drilled to recognize and shun any form of "apostasy" anyway. The "marking" of individuals will continue in some way, otherwise the wts would crumble and fall...

i wonder whether some people would not be comfortable with the idea of a world without the watchtower?

Sometimes I wish the wts would be taken down in a big scandal, due to the arrogance of the wt's self portrayal and some jws. On the other hand, if the wts goes down, another cult would pop up and take over many victims.
What is good about the wts, is that its long history of errors, false prophecy and scandals are well documented. Unique is also the fact that a top leader of the cult -gb member- gave insiders knowledge about the inner workings of the leadership. I don't know of another example like this one.
So with all the danger and harm done by the wt, there is a way out of the cult and healing...My main interest is in the change of policies, especially when it comes to child abuse!!!
I wish there were no cults in this world, but there will always be. So I think it is best if the wt cult becomes very mainstream and open, in due course of time!
Haven't read the thread mentioned here, but getting a large group of ex-cult members spread around the whole world to work together as "one", is a difficult task, due to the forced uniformity of their past...
Difficult, but not impossible!
