in his book, in search of christian freedom, ray franz make the point about his uncle fred that he lived a detached, cloistered, isolated existence.
he was separated and far-removed from the day-to-day issues of ordinary people.
like him, i suspect that many or even most of the wt leaders fall into that category.
I think, what adds to the detachment, is the way they are treated by their followers. Very few, if any dear to voice a critical thought regarding their leadership.
GB is as close as you can get to jehovah.
I thought it was bad how the brothers put up a show when the CO visits, but experiencing how the GB get worshipped was really eye-opening.
brother and sister bishop had to be the most annoying witnesses in our congregation.
sister bishop was a shrill overweight busybody who had nothing else better to do than spread rumors about both people and inanimate objects.
on the other hand, brother bishop was a rail thin cuckold of a man nearly 20 years younger than his wife.
lol.. we had that kind in my hall too.. but running out into the parking lot... just lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

with all of the legal mumbo jumbo and technicalties that the organization uses (recently brought to light in the australian case), i couldn't help but wonder what power the "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses" really has or even means from a technical standpoint, since the organization is so technical.
we know what it means when the announcement is made, but in reality, so-and-so never really belonged to any of the groups in the first place.
the law says that association or membership is voluntary, therefore the organization has the right to expel and shun someone for not following the guidelines expected of members.. what are the rank and file members of?.
A prominent elder who was on the Hospital Liaison Committee and worked with Gene Smalley (WT HQ writing department) told me, that brothers who partook of blood or fullfilled military service were announced to be “no longer RECOGNIZED as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses”. In their congregation file they continue to be held as congregation members (not disfellowshipped). The background for this was that a brother pressed charges due to being disfellowshipped and shunned because of fulfilling his military service.
I think, every society has the right to disfellowship. It is the shunning I have a problem with.
