  Please recommend books/websites about early church history..

  i am reading shelly's 'church history in plain language', and enjoying it's down to earth 'layman' style very much.. i would like to read some books on the evolution of church doctrine - hopefully written in the same style.

  i am no biblical/historical scholar by admission - and would love to read some literature on how doctrines altered and changed in the early centuries - something that doesn't put one to sleep with it's long-windedness - but also detailed enough, and in plain language enough, to keep me interested.. many of you folks must have favorites - can you recommend them ?.

  David Bercot is an ex-JW. His tapes on the website explain what the early christians believed prior to the Nicene Council. After reading you initial post again, I realized that this was not excactly what you were asking for. If you wanted to know what the early christians believed he does a great job at a very understandable level.

  the door to door work is a sham.. the central activity of the watchtower bible and tract society is not spreading their so-called "messege" about the kingdom of jehovah established in the heavens in 1914. that's a load of propaganda.. the door to door activity is feckless in producing converts.

  in fact, it is an immense failure of mammoth proportions!.

  but, it is a diversion.

  on finding the "truth" a former jehovah's witness asks: .

  what troubled me most as a jw was that how i could be sure i had the truth.

  if you choose a religion and claim it as the truth, it's like saying you are smarter than anyone who believe other religions... imho.

  Maybe they have changed it. My JW coworker has the latest CD. I dont know which one that is. Is there an 06. Well this is all I can find that might related to what was posted.

  Aha! Here we have identified for us the "killer" into whose hand Jehovah would give the executioanl sword to carry forward visibly the "battle in the day of Jehovah" against Jerusalem. It is the king of Babylon. chap. 12 pp. 217

  help needed.

  i believe that in one of the oldest watchtower issues someone asked ct russell whether praying to jesus was allowed and russell published his response to the effect that it was ok and russell said he sometimes prayed to jesus.

  i'd just love it if someone could dig up the actual article for me as i want to show it to someone who doesn't believe me.

  I found some sound bites on Freeminds.org. Is there any transcript of this speech? Any other sound clips? When was this said? Who is this cat? As much info on this speech as possible would be greatly appreciated.

  My JW coworker shared with the latest MP3 on matt 24 "new light" as he put it. I put a wet blanket over it when I showed him how that was said back in 1990. Hence the reason would not mind playing the "stay alive til 75" clip for him.
