Can anyone suggest an English interpretation of the Qur'an?
by mavie in.

I brought a really nice copy of the Qur'an (Koran) from a shop in Southall, London a few years back. It was in Arabic with English text
But I will tell you who do a nice translation...'Penguin Books' Ok it may be from a more mainstream source but it is very good English translation. It is part of their 'Classics' section if I remember. You can buy it in most book shops, and if they do not have a copy...order one...you will have it in a few days.

How a JW was instrumental in deconverting me from Mormonism
by Noggin ini used to be able to state, with clear emphasis... and a straight face, that i knew the mormon church was god's only true church on the face of the earth.
i used to be made up of a highly
polarized mormon mind set

Did a JW ever lie to you?
by JH in.
jw's don't lie, the devil is the father of lies, so jw's never lie.....

The whole WTBTS is a lie...isn't it?
I have had JW's lie to me...I have known JW's to lie about someone else which caused a lot of serious problems and even being wrongly DF'd for other JW's lies.
Hell...even I lied as a JW....But I never lied to cause trouble and get people hurt. It was lies...Like "I did not go to the meeting because I was not feeling well" eventually I told the truth and just said "I no longer want to go the meetings"

It really is a good idea that you look more deeply into the WTS. I was baptised in 1989 and really believed it was 'The Truth' But these last few years and especially the last few months since August / September 2005 I have learnt a lot about the WTS that at first shocked me.
The strange thing is when we are studying we are told to question what we believe...but when we question our believes when we are baptised JW's that seems wrong?
Please don't learn the hard way. By all means come to this forum and ask questions but think twice before making any commitment to thw WTBTS. I remember once asking an elder if
The Flood really did happen? I ask has there is no geological proof that such a thing did happen. And also isn't it possible it was just a Jewish version of an older Persian story of a great flood?
I was shot down in flames for asking such a question being told I lacked faith and was spiritually sick. Blimey! I was glad I did not ask a question about the WTS. I am sure his very look would have killed me dead on the spot there and then. -

Watchtower Predictions
by zgborn ini have a vivid recollection of going to people's doors as a teenager and telling them that bible chronology indicates that 6000 years of human history is due to expire in the fall of 1975 and we can fully expect a radical change in the world at about that time.
while i know that this was not the first watchtower prediction which proved to be incorrect, what i would like to know is, has any watchtower prediction of a future event come to pass?
-
Kero-kero
Mmmmm! did the Watchtower actually say 1975 would be the year Armageddon would happen? I have sen back issuse of the Watchtower from that year and a couple of years before I did not see anything about a set date. Yes they said that:
Bible chronology indicates that 6000 years of human history is due to expire in the fall of 1975
But I do not actually believe they said 1975 would be the date...I think a few brothers and sisters jumped the gun...so to speak.
The thing is, no one is really sure how long the creative period was. I believe the Hebrew word translated 'day' just means a 'period of time'...so 1 day could just as easily mean 1,000,000 years. Plus we must not forget that the last creative act was that of Eve being created from Adams rib. We do not know how long Adam was alone until Eve came into the existence.
According to Genesis 5:5 Adam died at the age of 930 years old. But we do not know how old Eve was when she died.

Hello everyone
I have a question to ask about this forum. I hope the question does not offend anyone. I do not mean to course offence.
My question is this:
Was the discussion forum started by a JW for JW’s?
I only ask has I looked back on the earliest posts in this forum and the very first post dated 23 rd March 2000 read:
Welcome to the newest Jehovah's Witness discussion forum on the Net. Please register so that you can post to the forum and turn this into a welcoming place for other brothers and sisters online
I also read a lot of people introducing themselves as JW’s and being happy to feely unity with brothers and sisters.
Which leads me to another question….
Was it then a case of the JW’s, that started this forum, faded and left ‘The Truth’ or is it a case that the forum was gradually taken over by ex-JW’s and those that had faded or were fading?

Why do so many show such anger towards JW who post here? What might help?
by Lady Lee inwhy do so many of us show such antagonism towards jw who post here?
we know they won't listen.
we know how it feels to have religion forced upon us.

I think we need to be careful and not attack someones elses beliefs. If we start saying that someone is wrong then we are no better the the WTS after all they will claim they are right and everyone else is wrong.
If a genuine JW comes her and wants to have a discussion in a mature way and is open to hear our thoughts with out judging and condeming then we should show respect to that person and answer his question(s) to the best of our ability and to also ask him questions.
I am sure that last thing anyone wants here is to have a forum of hate.
On a personal level...yes I have experienced some unpleasent things from so called brothers and sisters...and yes, I do feel a dislike towards them...but it is not JW's I hate...it is the organisation.
I happly welcome Jehovah's Witnesses to this discussion forum...after all I was once a JW myself.
Has for people like 'jw' (whom I am convinced is not a JW) we should just ignore him...arguing back is just lowing ourselves down to his level, after all it seems to me he is here just to course trouble.
