My father commented at a meeting once, "When people accuse me of being brainwashed, I reply, "I certainly am! My brain has been washed clean of the world!" Uproarious laughter ensued from the flipper clapping seals in the cong. It reminds me of the comment from crisis of conscience, where Franz witnessed a brother say something to the effect that if he knew something was a certain colour, but the society said it was another colour, by golly he'd agree with them. Ever met any Witnesses happy, proud even, to be brainwashed?

Hi restrangled,
So many of us are in pain. It probably won't ever go away. But every one of us has a voice. Every one of us has something that brought us to this forum to share ourselves. Either they own us or we own ourselves. I guess my perspective on it is that every day something is going to hurt. Day to day I will feel pain. But for me I can also choose to see good. I have a stinky dog with the fuzziest neck I can burrow my nose into. I have thunderstorms I can watch out my window while I'm tucked into my sheets. There is pizza and beer and sunny days and music and sad poems and hugs and smells and photographs and conversations and stars.
I didn't create things. I just want to be a participant. And do my best.
Much love.

How many ex-jws move out of town to start over?
by rebel8 ini was wondering how common it is for ex-jws to relocate after leaving the borg in order to escape the bad memories of being in a cult, or to break contact with cult members.. i have wanted to move far away for as long as i can remember--even as a kid--for this purpose.
various life circumstances have delayed that--long story--but mr. rebel8 and i are thinking of moving within the next few years.
i am the one who's most interested in moving to a completely different type of place--different culture, different climate, different everything!

Does anybody still have dreams about the witnesses? If so, how do you get them to stop.
Being part of this forum is a great start. I still have dreams about armageddon and judgements from family members and witnesses. They have been dissolving slowly but surely over the last few years, but I know they will always be there. They are a part of me. How I choose to deal with them is up to me. Finding a community outside of cult thinking will help to get an objective viewpoint (something we were not allowed). It's actually fun to disagree when you know someone isn't going to leave you because they are terrified of the big A or they're just intellectually lazy. Keep looking. You'll find them out there. There are a lot of great people in this world.

"My husband and I were reminded that if we remain in a firmly indoctrinated state, it would be the only way to attempt to reindoctrinate our sons if they gave us an opportunity to recruit them again. Where would the prodigal son have been if his father had not been in a condition to receive him back? Just like our sons, he'd have to sit at the back of the Kingdom Hall for a year or more until the Elders™ decided they were Repentant™ and ready to be Reinstated™."
Jeepers Scully,
You made it hard to find my favourite quote, since they all hit so close to home, but this one sang to me. Well done.

Or maybe the snake was just bored with the program and was sound asleep, unaware that it was being picked up.
LOL!!
Now that I think about it, I really feel sorry for the snake.

by tfsm ini know this is slightly off-topic but i find alot of the discussion here somewhat depressing and most of it is far too cerebral for me.

Disgusting comment regarding the baptism at the DC
by under_believer inat the service meeting the other day the "friends" were given an opportunity to discuss the district convention (portland, or, june 30-july 2).

It really goes to show how ridiculous and needy this organization is. I was baptised at 14 after constant badgering from my mother. because an elder's son in the congregation of the same age was getting baptised. I had no bloody clue what I was getting into. I was completely coached through the questions to expedite the process. I never felt even a modicum of spiritual edification . I was a kid and wanted to go outside and play in the fresh air, but wanted my parents to be happy even more.
After I was dunked the man in the white t-shirt asked me how I felt. I just looked at him with a blank stare. I wish I had told him the truth. I really just felt like I needed a shower.

I can understand Danny Haszards view, but for me it was the best idea to move. Just couldn't handle bumping into them and their feigned concern, if they even acknowledged me at all. I was fortunate because I had friends in the city I live in now that totally supported me emotionally. I couldn't imagine staying there, but I never really considered it "home" in the first place. Just somewhere I had to live a double life for a while until I found a community of real people to trust. So I guess it depends what and where you consider "home".
All the best,

Saturday morning books study & Field Service combined
by JH ini noticed recently that the book study i used to attend, used to be on a tuesdays or thursdays, but now it's on a saturday morning.. i notice that there are quite a few book studies on saturdays now.
i think that 2 out of the 4 books studies in my congregation are on saturdays.
is this a new way to get people to go out in the field service on saturdays?
-
Fleshybirdfodder
It was the same at our bookstudy arrangement. Early Saturday morning bookstudy and then it was just assumed that everyone was going out in service, since they wouldn't do the concluding prayer until after the field service arrangement was done. You actually had to put your hand up to indicate you were NOT going out. Another way to take any possibility of sleeping in away from us!
