Facebook came a few years after my 'fade/awakening to my indoctrination'. I had JW 'friends' on my account, but decided to alienate them with an unapologetic assertion of my indifference to, and independence from, the society's abject nonsense. Most went running for the hills at the slightest whiff of my 'apostasy'. It was kinda fun. The other ones who stuck around to get their misguided, self-righteous, intellectually lazy jibes at me I simply put through my own judicial committee process and disfellowshipped them from my life - online, and everywhere else. I'm sure I can't understand what you are going through with so much of your family so fully immersed in the Watchtower's fascist blarney. I hope, and I'm sure, that you will be able to find a community among the 7 billion people on this planet who have no idea about, and no interest in, what this fringe, apocalyptic cult is wasting its time blathering about. Keep up with your fade, and be excited about the rest of your life! It's worth it. It sure was for me. -

Anyone Else from Canada?
by Miss 8572 ini'm really intrigued by that fact that i may know some of you and yet not know that i know you.
i just want to know how many people from canada are here.
if you don't mind and don't care about posting your province (cause i'm too timid to) we could all get an idea of just how many canucks are really out there.

Did you know any "Cool JW" ?
by JH inwere there any "cool" jw's that you knew, that did things that you found so cool for a witness to do ?.
if so, what did they do, that most jw's wouldn't even dare do ?.
.

Depends on your definition of "cool". From my perspective, every Witness that I knew that I'd considered cool is no longer a Witness anymore.

Son pitched in Playoffs - won 6-4 ! only gave up 4 hits
by UnConfused inthank goodness at the age of 10 we bucked the jw system and let my son play baseball.
his team is #5 and they just beat the #4 team.
he's their pitching ace and gave up only 4 hits.

Wow! That's incredible. When I was a kid I begged until I cried to be allowed to play baseball. The answer was always, "you can play with the brothers". Unfortunately where I live hockey is religion and I'm not really a fan (heresay I know to my fellow Canucks), and NOBODY in my congregation wanted to play baseball. I'd go for hours and pitch against a school wall, or hit fly balls into the field and then spend forever rounding them up. I'm finally going to join a somewhat competitive league next season. Congrats to you and your son! Awesome!

Spanking. Useful Deterrent Or Child Abuse?
by Paralipomenon inpassionate topic.
if you have kids, when/ever is it okay to use a spanking as punishment?
did your parents spank you growing up?
-
Fleshybirdfodder
I personally could not justify spanking a kid. If the situation presents itself as them being in immediate danger you may have to grab them by the wrist and pull them out of there, perhaps even forcefully, but I can't imagine how a spanking will further impress upon them the danger of their actions.
One exception: sometimes I'm a bad boy and I need to be punished by my wife....

No lit for ex-jws, big A coming in June, apostate warning--what's going on?
by rebel8 inthere are 3 current threads that say these very things.
(ok, the one about armageddon says it will come within days or weeks--not months--so that means june 2007.
seems to me this is whipping up into a paranoia bigger than the 1980s apostate scare, bigger than they've ever seen before.

I hope it's true. I'd love to see my mother actually happy for once.

Sitting at the window and looking through the glass
it's melted sand that birds can't see
and fly into and crash
Into a pane from blue skies real
the last thing that they'll ever feel
won't be the worms that frame their meal
with hollow bones and grass
If birds can live in memory
and sky and sand and pain are real
then I am just a memory
the last thought that the bird could see
looking through the glass

If The Elders Decide To Get You-----They Will!!!
by minimus inplease never think that you can reason with an "older man", a "spiritual shepherd", an "elder".
elders already know what their agenda is.
if they want to talk with you, they control the format.

I have to agree. I was pulled into the b-school as they were putting forward a case against my friend based on rumours. I was actually prompted to speculate on whether this brother was guilty even after I told them I had NO knowledge of the accusation. I was only 16 at the time and was terribly intimidated, but I stuck to my guns. He refused to meet with them and eventually was able to fade.
Going to the trouble of taking notes and do delay tactics at a J.C. will simply further piss the elders off and solidify their decision; that is all it will accomplish. My wife and I moved without telling anyone in the middle of the night to avoid meeting them, and they still showed up unannounced at our apartment. They had actually been watching us! We refused to talk to them, finished packing and drove to freedom. Thankfully we haven't been bothered since.

Has anyone ever played with a ouija board?
by delilah inthis past weekend, we met a new couple in our campground, and the conversation soon came 'round to the supernatural.
the lady said she has had quite a few supernatural experiences, and that she plays her own home-made version of the ouija board.
my husband was all excited and begged her to play .

Thanks for the response J.G.
So if the demons' job is done once someone is either athiestic or agnostic, among the believers what specific religion(s) do the demons want to direct people away from?
