Racism is rampant in that church and if you go to any congregation outside of any major city, it's friggin obvious. They just don't show it

I agree one hundred per cent. I grew up in a small town and you wouldn't believe how bad it was. My JW mother was watching our Aunt who has Down Syndrome play in the pool with a neighbour who also has Down Syndrome. She said, "isn't it wonderful they way they have a certain way of playing? It must be like how black people feel when they get together!" I almost choked, and I know she didn't mean anything by it, but there is a definite general attitude and I found it offensive because it took on a tone of superiority over both my aunt, and people with darker skin. No matter how squeeky clean their image, a lot of "fine" young MS brothers were swapping rascist jokes and even calling their "friends" from the city the N word because "they don't mind, they think it is funny too." Whatever Greg....

Realization about the Adam and Eve myth

as i looked at the adam and eve story again, i realized the something is wrong with the story.

jehovah offers the pair all the fruits in the garden of eden save the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.

there's a problem though, why would there be a fruit for that if bad supposedly wasn't around at that point yet?

I never understood Genesis 3:24... does this mean that prior to the Bronze age the angels had swords? How would Adam and Eve even know what a sword is? The Cherubs may have just as well used a spinning jar of marmalade for all Adam and Eve would understand.

Is There Anything Positive About Being A Jehovah's Witness?

i recently went to a wedding and the father of the bride that (re)married a (worldly) man said to me, "the only thing that i can say about raising our kids as witnesses was at least they got a good foundation.

look at our kids.

they're good kids".

Music you chucked out when you were a JW.

it made me think, reading comments on carpenters thread....... what music did you throw out when you were a witness??.

i got rid of all my led zeppelin (satanic backtracking and all that baloney).

all my deep purple.

I also came home and half my cassette collection was missing... all the good stuff. Thanks ma! From then on I hid them in the closet in the inside pockets of my suit jackets.

UN prophecies

with all the fanfare of the "divine deliverance at hand" convention, are the dubs still pushing the idea of the un banning all religion globally?

we've seen how powerless the un was with iraq and now with the situation in lebanon.

do they really still believe that the un will actually do this, or even have the power to suggest it for that matter?

With all the fanfare of the "divine deliverance at hand" convention, are the dubs still pushing the idea of the UN banning all religion globally? We've seen how powerless the UN was with Iraq and now with the situation in Lebanon. Do they really still believe that the UN will actually do this, or even have the power to suggest it for that matter? Has there been "new light" in this regard? If not, what are they basing their ideas that the end is just around the corner when nothing globally is even remotely shaping up the way it was predicted in the Revelation book?

i remember going to meetings at the hall, and when the meeting was over, i wanted to leave right away, and not see a jw t'il the next meeting.. i thought of this thread because i see so many witnesses having lunch together after meetings and many seem to always want to be together even when the meetings are over.. i never did like this closed circle of jw's.

When I felt really bad about myself, I used to do my best to talk JW "newspeak", with the fellow sheep. After a while I had to crack and did the sitting in the car thing. I made friends with one person in the hall (he is still in, confused and a really good guy...) and we both got counselled about widening out, because we were spending too much time in discussion exclusively after the meetings which perhaps might gradually evolve into acts of sedition against the watchtower... come to think of it...

Why I joined this forum...

<div>my very first visit to this website several years ago, was because i wanted to find out what the few surprises were going to be at the sydney 2003 convention.

(i have family that are jehovahs witnesses but i am not) .

it took a few months to sink in, but i gradually came to accept the real truth that these surprises are nothing of the sort.
