evanescence:
***The one true Church that keeps scripture at its correct interpretation.***
And who's to decide what that correct interpretation will be? The one that YOU think is true? Or maybe one of the 1000+ christian religions that claim to have the correct interpretation?
There is NO CORRECT interpretation of scripture. The Bible is filled with too many contradictions for any one person, group, or church to claim that they've got the real goods. If you're drawn to one of those interpretations and it works for you, fine. But then don't go claiming you have the truth and the rest of us have the moral codes of animals. A very unfeeling and unchristian sentiment, BTW.

I know a guy who was Air National Guard his whole adult life. He served in Vietnam, Panama, and the first Gulf War. He and his entire unit contracted Gulf War Syndrome, and for the past 15 years all of them have slowly sickened; some have died. This guy is now in almost constant pain and his mind has recently become affected.
The military has never acknowledged his illness, let alone accept that it was contracted in a war zone. When he became unable to do his job (about 8 years ago), they hustled him out on an extremely reduced pension, since he was not to have retired for another 10 years.
Last year, the military discovered they made an error in the paperwork regarding his pension. They want to reduce the pension and are asking for a $26,000 refund for overages they claim they paid him during his retirement so far.
Because he is unable mentally or physically to challenge anything that's been done to him, his wife is now responsible for handling all the paperwork and appeals. She contacted her local Congressman about this latest pension fiasco early this year. So far nothing has been done.
I'm proud of our soldiers and the important work they do, but I'm very aware that the military regards them as disposable and will never acknowledge that it may be responsible for causing harm to them.
My son went through a brief phase in his teens about wanting to join the military. All we had to do was point to this guy and say, "This is how the military treated him. It could happen to you too." My son went to college instead. -

I don't "love" anyone here in particular, although I have a few favorites, who will remain unnamed.
However, I love the free spirit shown here, the feeling of comraderie, and the sincere motivation to help others. -

What book or movie most resembles the WTS in your opinion? Why?
by whyizit ini've seen where some former jws compare the wts to certain movies or books (such as the village and 1984).
i just wondered what movies or books reminded you of the wts and why?
did you draw this conclusion before or after you left the organization?

I've heard of only one bigger religious lie: When Jim Jones told his followers the Kool-Aid was "medication."

My first blood donation
by sass_my_frass in... has been scheduled.
i've been to the clinic to watch mr frass donate, and it was pretty confronting.
still i've realised that if i'm happy with taking blood, i should be happy to give it too, so i'm going to become a donor.

I first tried to donate blood right after 9/11, but I was disqualified because of some medications I was taking. I was surprized at how disappointed I felt.

Is Jehovah Satan?
by sinis infound this interesting snipit from a website.
actually makes sense.
the god of the ot is very violent, no matter how many ways you cut it.. religions fail to understand that jehovah is not the peaceful god that jesus called "father.

So, if it was really Satan committing the atrocities in the OT, where was the real Jehovah? Swinging in a hammock somewhere because he was on his sabbath?
And, if it was Jehovah himself committing the atrocities in such a satanic way that he could be called Satan, then where was the real Satan and what was he doing during this time? -

What little things get you upset?
by JH ini get upset very fast, if a product i use since years gets discontinued.
gee, if the weatherman says it's 75 degrees outside and i know it's 80, i'll phone him and tell him to get a better thermometer or put glasses on.
often i feel like writting to the mayor and ask him what is he waiting for to pave the streets of the whole city.

JWs or Mormons knocking on my door trying to shove religion down my throat.
The little "digs" my JW parents give me about my leaving the religion.
My JW brother pontificating to me about how horrible this world is.
Former JW acquaintances I bump into after 10 or more years, and they ask in that snarky false way, "Oh, how have you been doing?"
