CS101,
***They want to think they are doing something worth while, have some order and purpose in their lives, have a pool of people that can befriend.***
Your statement reinforces something I've often thought about many JWs--they're emotional and spiritual cowards. Instead of facing the immense challenge of life head-on, they scurry into a seemingly safe little nest where their thinking and choices are all made for them, ready-to-go, like baby pablum. They don't want to realize that they're really in a trap, not a safe haven.
***I guess i'm looking at my life and thinking whats the point of it. I feel all alone, I seemed to have pressed a self destruct button and pushed everything I had away from me.***
You, on the other hand, have made the leap into living your own life, on your own terms. That takes courage, and it doesn't always feel good. Have faith in yourself that your courage will see you through your present crisis. Best of luck to you.

Divorce came through
by cyberdyne systems 101 intime for reflection i guess, i had thought i was further along in the healing process, but sometimes i seem to slip right back to where it all started.
though i will never go back, i can see why people cling to something like the witness.
they want to think they are doing something worth while, have some order and purpose in their lives, have a pool of people that can befriend.

To disassociate or not?
by elliej inlate last year my husband and i, with our children, moved to a new state and decided to leave the organization after much research and soul searching.
our intent was to just fade quietly away in order to maintain certain family relationships, but thanks to a couple of militant dubs who were assigned to find out what was going on with us, we were outed.
even though we haven't made any comments other than that there are certain things we don't agree with, we have been completely shunned.

Check out HadEnuf's thread from last week:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/115344/1.ashx
She DAed herself, but she did it on her own terms, and the local cong got a heap of bad publicity. If you are inclined to do something similar to what she did, it could be a very satisfying way of ending your ties with the WTS. -

Perhaps I should try harder to understand God.
by nicolaou in(note: i've been somewhat of a ranting atheist for the last year or two but i've tried to be nice with it!).
if a human father punishes his disobedient children by killing them he will be locked up if not executed.
however, most people would concede that such a man must have had severe mental and/or emotional problems to have reached that point.

***Just try and help me to understand His behaviour?***
There is no way to make rational sense of the biblical God; you'll drive yourself nuts trying. You might want to explore other ways of understanding divinity (Buddhism, Taoism, Native American). If nothing else, study of different religious perspectives will give you new insight into your own beliefs. -

Ban cigarette production?
by greendawn ingiven that cigarettes are harmful to health why don't the governments shut down the factories producing them?
it's strange how they tolerate them but not marijuana.
smoking costs a lot of money to the health services of all countries, while the tobacco industries make their profits.

Banning tobacco would be like the Prohibition all over again; it wouldn't work. Like alcohol, tobacco use should be up to the individual (however ill-advised). Smoking is banned from nearly all public places already, so there's no further danger to public health, just to individual smokers. They should have the freedom to smoke in their homes and their cars if they want.
I've never been a smoker, but I eat way too many doughnuts. Maybe there should be a ban on doughnuts. -

WT desparate: Aug 15 WT- In Our Next Issue: When A Loved One Leaves Jehovah
by truthseeker inno, i don't have this article yet, it will appear in the sep 1, 2006 wt.
it may even be a wt study article.. in the august 15 watchtower, the box "in our next issue" has three forthcoming articles, and one of them is "when a loved one leaves jehovah".
of interest, it's not when a loved one leaves the society, it's jehovah.. will keep you posted.

Blondie:
***Believe me, if inactive JWs will officially be considered having DA'd, the elders would be told first in a letter from the WTS; the first notice will not be in an article in a WT.***
Blondie, thanks for the assurance that this issue is not on the radar right now. I've been inactive for nearly 30 years; it seems silly and redundant for them to DF me after so many years. If it weren't for my parents, I wouldn't much care what the society does. My parents are my only connection to the WT and the only power it still holds over me. -

So far so good with the visiting JW in- laws
by troubled mind inthey brought my hubby's neice with, she is not a witness, and during her college break will be living with them.that of course means she has to agree to bible study and meetings.
well i had a great time warning her about what she has to look forward to this summer.
she is already fairly well informed as her mother hates jw's and what it did to their family.

I don't get this--why would this girl's mother let her live with JWs, even for a short time? What if she had an accident and needed a blood transfusion? Is her mother willing to let that decision up to the JW in-laws? That's scary. When my young son went on weekend visits to my JW parents, I made sure I was next to a phone at all times. -

If the WTS decrees that inactive ones must be considered DAed, my JW parents will be up the creek. They are elderly and in poor health (many hospital stays; both were in the hospital within the past 3 weeks). They often must depend on me for cooking, cleaning, doctor visits, helping them sort out their meds, etc.
I sincerely hope the society will not be forcing a decision on them about this; I don't know how they would manage. The "brothers" and "sisters" will let them twist in the breeze; not one has helped them up to now.
My parents will be forced to decide either to shun me and manage on their own, or they'll have to accept my help and be DFed themselves. The stress alone may kill them.
Looks like I'll need a sleeping pill to get any rest tonight.
Please keep us updated, truthseeker. -

Firearms And Shooting...
by Justice-One ini thought i would open up a thread on firearms and shooting.
personally i was raised around firearms as my dad was not a jw.
some of my earliest memories are of my dad teaching me how to put a round in a fleas ass at 200 meters.
