I don't remember my last meeting. Toward the end, they all blurred together into one interminable, droning, meaningless buzz of white noise. The antidepressive and antianxiety meds I was on at the time probably contributed to that impression.

How many ex-jws move out of town to start over?
by rebel8 ini was wondering how common it is for ex-jws to relocate after leaving the borg in order to escape the bad memories of being in a cult, or to break contact with cult members.. i have wanted to move far away for as long as i can remember--even as a kid--for this purpose.
various life circumstances have delayed that--long story--but mr. rebel8 and i are thinking of moving within the next few years.
i am the one who's most interested in moving to a completely different type of place--different culture, different climate, different everything!

My husband and I moved to a different state for non-JW, oops! non-jw reasons, about 4 years after I faded. It's been very pleasant not to constantly bump into nose-in-the-air dubs all the time or to listen to other dubs' obviously insincere protestations about how much they miss me. I think I reached a sense of "normalcy" more quickly than I would have had I remained in the same area.

WT desparate: Aug 15 WT- In Our Next Issue: When A Loved One Leaves Jehovah
by truthseeker inno, i don't have this article yet, it will appear in the sep 1, 2006 wt.
it may even be a wt study article.. in the august 15 watchtower, the box "in our next issue" has three forthcoming articles, and one of them is "when a loved one leaves jehovah".
of interest, it's not when a loved one leaves the society, it's jehovah.. will keep you posted.

Thanks, Midget S. for the postings. I'm relieved to know there's no change in WT policy regarding faders.
The article's subtext to those who have left is anything but subtle:
"Remember the storm clouds of Armageddon are swiftly approaching" -- Come back now or JEHOVAH WILL KILL YOU!
"You cannot know if you will even be alive tomorrow" -- Come back now or JEHOVAH WILL KILL YOU!
"If you have left Jehovah, now is the best time to return" -- Come back now or JEHOVAH WILL KILL YOU!
The WTS could save a lot of money on printing costs by just printing "Become a JW now or JEHOVAH WILL KILL YOU!" on a small tract instead of finding 1000 ways of saying the same thing. It's a waste of good resources to wrap their vicious message in a soft blanket of substitute verbiage. -

by Nathan Natas infor the past week or so the above phrase has been bouncing around inside my head.. i think it is from a talk to a graduating class at gilead, but i cannot for the life of me nail down the source.. does this ring a bell for anyone?

Here's a copy of Farkel's posting I mentioned earlier:
Re: Who Pays The Ferryman....? Old post 29-Jun-02 18:07

: Nathan Knorr's infamous remark to my wife many years ago when she asked him how he could sleep at night being aware of the pitted trail that the WTS left behind it, is very telling, "I leave these things to Jehovah to deal with". It shows the ease with which people can come to terms with the foulest deeds if they can pass on the responsibility to others.
: In a post some months ago, after 9-11 disaster perpretrated by fanatics, I asked a question, Who said these words, Go to your assignments and DIE there if necessary? No one replied to ask me, and I forgot about the post til now.
: The answer to the above question.
: Nathan Homor Knorr, in a address to the 34th class of Gilead at South Lansing,in 1960, told the students, GO TO YOUR ASSIGNMENTS AND DIE THERE IF NECESSARY!
That must have really bothered good men like Art Worsley who literally gave his entire adult life to Bethel and hypocritical assholes like Knorr and his cronies. Before he died, Art told a friend of mine that he used to sometimes work the night desk and would see Nathan and Audrey and one or other couples come back very late from a night on the town at the swankest restaurants and clubs in Manhattan, with their exquisite tuxedos and gowns, smelling of good wine and cheer, and all the finest life has to offer.
Yet, Knorr had no problem telling his slaves to
GO TO YOUR ASSIGNMENTS AND DIE THERE IF NECESSARY
while he lived like a king with his chauffered Cadillacs and personal body guards.
If there is to be a judgment, it will weigh heavily on him and his ilk.

Is is easier to just forget about religion as a whole??
by EC ini feel like i am getting bitter and that is onr thing i do not want to be...but this whole religion, god thing is gets to be too much... .
i do believe there is a creator, but have no idea what the purpose is.....i've tried the whole jesus thing, but really that doesn't make too much sence to me either....so where does that leave me???
in limbo....so i would rather just forget it all... .

Forget about religion for a while; the children won't turn into little Satans just because they miss a few church services. Read books about philosophy and history. Look closely at the natural world. Take time to relax. Enjoy your children. True spirituality is inherent in these simple, everyday things.

Speech on Jehovah's Witnesses for College
by jayhawk1 ini have a speech to do for college speech class.
it is to be a persuasive speech and i figured a good topic would be; "are jehovah's witnesses rational?
" certainly with my background (being raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, then shown the ugly side while still an active member, and finally researching the truth about jehovah's witnesses) gives me a wealth of information to pull from.

Take Inquisitor's advice: keep it simple. Use only 1 or 2 points at most. I would also recommend discussing something your audience may already know about JWs: maybe why they don't serve in the armed forces or why they don't accept blood transfusions. Talk about Beth Sarim and you'll put them right to sleep.

You might be a Witness, if ... (in the spirit of redneck jokes)
by free2beme infeel free to add on.. if you ever went to another religions funeral, and handed out watchtower publications and thought that was okay ... you might be a witness.
if you thought you were getting to old, and needed to get married as soon as possible and were only 20 ... you might be a witness.
if you remember preaching "the end is near" for over twenty years, and claim to be okay that it did not come yet ... you might be a witness.

Once again, Farkel's lines are classic: check out his thread, except he doesn't call them ... um ... Witnesses.

silly question?
by truthseeker789 injw's teach that jesus began ruling from heaven 'invisibly' in 1914. if no one knows the day or the hour the son of man will arrive - then how is it justified that jesus began his 'invisible ruling' from heaven in 1914?
doesn't that mean he's already arrived?
*confused*

In the now-sputtering-light "truth" I was taught more than 30 years ago, believers knew Jesus had arrived invisibly in the heavens because he tossed Satan out, and Satan was so ticked off at being cast down to earth that he stirred up all manner of trouble here, WWI, earthquakes, ear mites, etc. The turbulent times were supposed to be the indicator that Jesus had assumed his heavenly throne. Don't know if this is correct; long-term memory loss is getting worse!
