Rachel,
Most of the stuff I bought is fairly small. But eBay does have options that allow you to limit the geographic radius of potential buyers to make shipping or picking up much easier. I haven't done much with eBay lately, so there may be even more options available now.
When I want to sell something very bulky or heavy, I generally go through a local auction house. They pick it up, and a few weeks later I get a check. Very convenient, although not as much fun as eBay.

Don't Like Your Avatar, Don't Like You!
by bigmouth insome time ago i attracted some really agressive responses that surprised me because i had no intention of offending so i had to learn a lot about how to word things on this forum, smiley faces etc so others would know i was pulling their leg, but i oftened wondered if a posters nickname or avatar puts you off instantly??
you know, first impressions.
i would think someone like satanus or mouthy would be intimidating but miss peaches was as nice as pie and this thinking might reflect how i would reply.

***parakeet.who can refuse the charm of a birdy avatar!***
Very true, candidly. I've been a bird freak all my life. I love them all--screeching parrots, endearingly goofy ostriches, grabby seagulls, squeaky starlings, even vultures. They're all fascinating. -

***How should "apostates" act to get you out faster!***
I believe the process of leaving the WTS is one that cannot be hurried along without repercussions. If the "apostate" doesn't do anything at all, the JW may never leave. Yet, pushing the JW (no matter how well-intentioned) may cause him/her to pull back defensively into the "truth," even more entrenched against anything you have to say.
I'm sure one of the many cult deprogramming books often mentioned on this forum have much to say about this question. Can someone help here? -

***Yours reminds me of the bird I taught to say Jehovah! Jehovah! Armeggedons coming!!!!! Honest***
I believe you!! My parrot says, "Come 'ere and give me a little kiss" complete with lip-smacking sounds. The trouble is, if I then try to give him a kiss, he tries to bite my lip off. On the whole, your bird sounds less scary. -

I think avatars and nicknames do reflect some aspects of the person. They are chosen the same way we do our clothing, our friends, our manner of speech. They are hints as to our attitudes and personality.
I try to look at the avatar as a possible clue as to where that poster is coming from, never as a summary of the whole character. The character is revealed by what the posters says. -

***I love smoothies but have never made them. Do I need a certain type of blender? What's the cheapest bit of kit that will get me started?***
You need a blender that's powerful enough to crush ice (most mid-priced models will do this) and a refrigerator/freezer for ice or frozen fruit. There are recipes galore on the internet. -

How do you deal with a "Joy Kill?"
by free2beme ina friend of mine just got out of a relationship in which she was abused.
we all have supported her exit, and encouraged her to get counseling.
she is doing well, yet the details of her life and what happened are not something i think should come up with strangers in every day conversation.

I'd make allowances for the time being. Her experiences are still very fresh in her mind. It must be hard to feel safe and cared for after long-time abuse. Her friends should understand that as well. However, if she does not seem to be improving over time, then the help of a mental-health professional may be needed.

I am a little bit confused.
by Stealth453 injr brown said in response to this question, "so neither the volunteer workers nor the leadership itself of the jehovah'w witness church professes to be spirit-inspired or directed or what not?
", "no, no, we don't have anybody that expects that".. yet, one of the 2 pre baptism questions is;.
do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of jehovah's witnesses in association with god's spirit directed organization?

Brown was using the "what not" defense against the onslaught of probing questions. It's similar to the Twinkie defense, except that instead of sugar making you say things you shouldn't, it's meaningless phrases. He should be convicted of causing confusion in a public forum. The fact that he was catatonic at the time is no defense.

I started on eBay back in 1998 when eBay was still small potatoes. I'm long over the first rush of craziness that seems to grip many new users, but a lot of my home furnishings were purchased on eBay. I still get a kick out of the bidding wars, too. Remember, never bid too early--it'll drive the price up.
