Hi Gwyneth,
Read every word of your story. I hope the bitterness you feel will fade in time. In the meantime, I hope your efforts to enlighten JWs about the "truth" will bear fruit.
I was also very hesitant to begin posting but have since gathered my courage and now say my piece if I think it will help (or entertain). Prepare yourself for the first time you get flamed (and eventually you will). I was shaken by it for a few days but now take it in stride. Hope to hear from you often.

After 4 years, an introduction (hope it works this time!)
by gwyneth inive been a member of this board for just over four years, and i have never posted an introduction.
i mostly stick to the "fluff" threads, because they are safe.
i wont be attacked for an unpopular point of view, or hurt anyone elses feelings.

What will happen when all those older witnesses fall sick and eventually di
by JH inwhat will happen when all those older witnesses fall sick and eventually die?
i know so many in the congregation in their mid 70's and older.
many of these older ones are pillars in the congregation.. i was just wondering what effect it will have 5 to 10 years from now, when all these older ones will be too sick to attend meetings or dead.

***I have heard them say, "It wasn't supposed to be this way; I wasn't supposed to die but live into the new system." As they get more feeble and the illnesses of old age take hold, they wonder more and more.***
That's the position my parents are in; it's heartbreaking to see. And you're right, there are plenty of younger braindead JWs to take the place of the older generation. -

How tolerant are you?
by nicolaou ini was just skimming through lt's intolerance thread and it seemed to me that sometimes tolerance is a terrible thing.
we don't tolerate racism, sexism or abuse and punish it when we can.
we expose and ridicule individuals and corporations if they are found guilty of fraud or deceit because we are intolerant of dishonesty.

I try (and often fail) to be tolerant of most things, except bullies and tyrants.

For Higher Critics-Why does NT have a TRINITARIAN slant so foreign to OT
by jwfacts inthe old testament yhwh was a simple solo god almighty.
in the new testament the nature of god becomes quite confusing based on some expressions of jesus and the nt writers.
from a higher critic point of view, why did the nt writers introduce such confusion?.

***Why did the NT writers introduce such confusion?***
Because they didn't know what they were talking about? But then again, I'm only a "lower" critic. :-) -

Rassilon:
***I was not ACTUALLY serious.***
Very relieved to hear that. One of the most difficult things to convey in writing is satire and sarcasm. We don't know you personally -- all we have to go by is what you wrote. Most thought you were serious. If only a few posters "got it," then your writing didn't convey what you intended. When it comes to subjects like guns, choose your words carefully. -

Does a baptism in a different religion count?
by headmath inwhat if , say, a baptized catholic studies with the jws.
let say it comes to the point of dedicating ones life to jeehoover.
does the catholic have to get re-beptized or is their original baptism still valid?.
-
parakeet
Not to the JWs. You have to be dunked their way -- Bible study, meeting attendance, field service, 1001 questions, promises to obey Jehovah AND the WTS, then full-body immersion.
I'm surprised they don't dunk Catholics twice -- once to reverse their "satanic" infant baptism and once for the JWs. -

j2s,
It's really a shame we can't all live up to your high standards. With such exacting standards as yours, maybe you should start your own religion and find converts who always say and do exactly what you think they should. Oh wait, that religion already exists -- JWs.
LT:
***I do wonder if we still tend to take an all-or-nothing approach to life, as exJWs***
I've often thought that, too. I know posters here are not necessarily a representative sample of exJWs at large, but it seems that most here either become BA or "private" Christians (not sure of the term) or out-and-out atheists. Not many are drawn to mainline religion: attending church on Sunday, church suppers, that sort of thing. -

THAT'S what I'm talking about, Leolaia! And look, NO SATANIC INSECTS! I'm heading back to the KH this week! Pet worms, soccer, JWs everywhere -- what's not to like?
Although ...... I wonder who made their clothes and that soccer ball. Probably best not to know. -

What I thought was a crazy comment from the book study last week.
by ?me? inlast week in the book study the paragraph stated that satan used "false religion" to lead people away from jehovah.
citing the teaching of false "truths" in the bible (trinity, hellfire, etc).
i almost had to comment because i do not believe this is so because i think we would all agree that just about all religions outside of jw's are way more vocal about hating the devil, satan.

Satan is the original scapegoat. It's much easier to blame someone else than be accountable for one's own actions. From toddlers to God -- "I didn't do it; HE did."

Were YOU Depressed When You Were A Witness?
by minimus ini've seen soooo many witnesses taking meds or alcohol because of unhappiness and depression.
i know of one woman who regularly gos to her shrink and is the most depressed person that i know of.
personally, i believe it's because a jw can never do enough to satisfy god or the elders....what do you think?

Depressed, suicidal, hospitalized, medicated -- the JW mantra. Recovery began as soon as I left for good.
