"Donations" -- what a crock.

Is al-Qaeda a front for the borg?
by frozen one ini read al-qaeda has a new message for everyone.
here's the quote:.
"to americans and the rest of christendom we say, either repent (your) misguided ways and enter into the light of truth or keep your poison to yourself and suffer the consequences in this world and the next," gadahn said in english.. that bit about christendom and the light of truth rang familiar.

***That bit about Christendom and the light of truth rang familiar.***
The language sounds familiar because the thinking behind it is the same: "Do what we tell you or our god will destroy you."
The only difference is that radical Islamic fundamentalists don't "wait on Jehovah" to begin the killing. -

Could you or would you ever....
by beautifulisfree ingo back to the kingdumb hall??
even for someones wedding or a loved ones funeral?
-
parakeet
No. I made up my mind years ago that I won't ever go back, not even for a close relative's funeral. I'm not DFed, but the JWs would either snub me completely or attempt to comfort me with the "resurrection hope." Either response would be intolerably cruel, especially if I'm already in a grief-stricken state. Only "neurotics" would subject themselves needlessly to such unloving treatment.

I send a homeless fellow human being to JW's
by spiceant ini am serious about this, i new met a man twice who moved to holland probably in the week of the 22nd june and in total i gave him enough money for about 10 days of shelter.
now the thing is tomorrow at 5:30 pm he will probably show up at the kingdom hall where i also go to in the high hopes of finding a helpfull jehovahs witness.
now i didnt invite him to my own home because my parents are no religious people or as remotely altruistic as i am.

DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE CONTACT WITH HIM ON YOUR OWN. This man is a stranger and could be dangerous.
Call the authorities and tell them about this man. If he's legit, they will find shelter for him. -

Censorship or counter-witness - which would you choose?
by Inquisitor inif you were in some public area and you discovered jw publications, what would you do?
(1) would you snatch the publications away and bin them (censorship)?
(2) would you write the url for jwd and silentlambs in the publication (counter-witness)?
-

I see your point, Inquisitor. Are we denying others the right to read what they wish by removing the WTs?
It's a tricky question, but since the information is already in the public domain and the magazines were put there by an individual without legal sanction, I think what happens to them after is not a matter of censorship.
If we went into a library and took a JW book out and destroyed it, that would be censorship because it would be infringing on the public's right to have access to that book. There's no existing right (that I know of) that publications placed in a public area on the whim of an individual must remain accessible to the public. -

Things peculiar to your country!
by lowden inok, if i came to your country (usa, canada, france, holland, oz....wherever) what should someone experience or sample before they leave....to give them a true taste of your homeland.
limit it to 5 per post....if you can.. i'll start with england/britain.. english ale, the lake district (england), to get a true taste of england visit the city of bath (or maybe stratford, though a bit too touristy), sample some black pudding (blood sausage .

Crabcakes in any restaurant in Crisfield, Maryland.
The Inner Harbor in Annapolis, Maryland.
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania -- just stay off the major roads--too touristy. On the country roads, you'll find Amish children at roadside stands selling produce, eggs, and other farm items. Drive slowly to avoid accidents with the many horse-drawn carriages on the road. -

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses...what did you lose?
by The wanderer inan informal discussion
there was a brother who, quite honestly, was very well educated and received.
exceptional grades while in school.

Lost a 14-year chunk of my childhood and early adulthood. I made up for the loss of education and freedom to think for myself, but I'll never get that time back.
A loss that continues to this day is the loss of an open and loving relationship with JW relatives who are still in the cult. -

Absolute Proof That Life is Unfair (Asia Carrera)
by metatron inok, let's create a person with the iq of a genius - who belongs to mensa, double majored on a full scholarship to rutgers university,.
plays concert piano, and is really good in math.. now, add the fact that is she is alarming attractive....( ok, there was some surgery involved).
add the fact that she can actually climax ( no faking) with ease.

***Add motherhood and healthy kids...Add lots of money...and fame....Put them all together and you have former porn star Asia Carrera.***
None of that proves she's happy. I never heard that money and fame are essential for contentment in life. On the other hand, belief that life should be fair will, without fail, lead to misery. -

freedom96:
***The WTS always taught not to do things that showed ourselves in the limelight, music, television, sports etc. So I was always confused when witnesses made such a fuss over entertainers that were witnesses.***
I never understood the fuss made over JW celebrities, either. If any of them were true JWs, they would drop their guitars, tennis rackets, or whatever and immediately go into the full-time pioneer "ministry." After all, Armageddon is coming "real soon now." Instead of saving lives for Jehovah, they're out there making scads of money, and the JWs love them for it.
I remember years back a JW relative telling me that Michael Jackson was a dub, as though I should be impressed by that. Now that Jackson has become a full-time nutjob, the relative doesn't mention him at all. I guess she hopes I don't remember her comment. -

Raymond Franz is a good man
by slimboyfat ini have come across some old threads that make various accusations against rayfranz, but i think on the whole he seems a kind and thoughtful person.
he didn't do everything right, and he is no saint as some make out: his expulsion is a bit flatteringly called a "crisis of conscience", but he came to terms with the disorienting situation well and did a service to all involved with the witnesses by giving us a look behind the curtain.
some of the things that people hold against him it seems:.

I have mixed feelings about RF, but mostly I feel sorry for him. The WTS messed up his life then tossed him aside (as so many of us were). He's done his level best since then to atone for his errors. It takes a person of character to do that.
