Yes, I also agree with the poster's comment that this was reimbusement for work done, not volunteer service. You certainly could get them some way, as they were seemingly operating a business if they demanded payment. Perhaps the IRS would like to know how many others they demanded payment from. Interesting possibilities.........

My story (very long)
by reneeisorym inwe all went to the same kingdom hall.
another thing that bothered me was the lack of love.
i was bothered that the arguments and logic of the society commonly made little sense.

No, no, no. Your story was not long! I think you showed great restraint in the way you told it,as I am sure there must be some thoughts towards the men on the JC that you could have included. That is what really gets me about committees such as these. You were publicly reproved for your conduct, yet that was not enough. You needed further humiliation, not help, it seems.
Also, to demand money to reimburse "voluntary" work done is the pits. Did they ask you to agree to pay before they did the work? Did they ask your grandma?
Also, what did your family say when they found out that these men demanded payment for the work? Were they in agreement? How do things stand now with you and your family?
I grew up in Mississippi. The bastian of Southern Baptists. I have seen some things there, also.
Thanks for your story. I am glad you are finding happiness now.

Welcome to the forum.
I am on this forum because here I can speak the truth and say what is on my mind, and cannot at the Kingdom Hall.
You state that you believe in Jesus, and that all Christians are your brothers and sisters. I am not disfellowshipped. I would never walk up to you in a Kingdom Hall and say anything contrary to your beliefs to you. However, they do not feel the same toward you. What you will find here is the truth about Jehovah's Witnesses.
The official stance of Jehovah's Witnesses is that your worship is directed to Satan if you are not one of Jehovah's Witnesses. You are an Egyptian; a Cannanite, worthy of destruction at Armaggedon. Your husband is spiritualy weak, and was disobedient to marry you if he was at the time one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
You have no standing with God or Jesus. I can't make it any plainer than that. Ask your husband what the official Watchtower stance is--not his stance---the official one. He may reply something like this..."Well, er, um, that is, I am not the judge...." Continue to press him for the OFFICIAL STANCE OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES TOWARD "WORLDLY PEOPLE", and by the way, that is you.
I hate to burst your bubble, but those smiling faces at the Kingdom Hall only want to convert you before it is too late for you, and right now they feel that you are buzzard bait waiting for the pickings.

I am glad that you posted here, and hope that the advice of others has shown you that you are important to us and that we hope you are feeling better soon.
I am wondering if perhaps your children are angry with you because they blame you for the breakup of the family. They may have said things to you to try and hurt you because you have hurt them. The words they used sound like this to me.
If you do contact them, yes, make the words short and meaningful. Perhaps you could tell them how proud you are of something they accomplished in life, even back in elementary school. Tell them they mean everything to you. Perhaps they will not respond immediately; however, they will not be able to say that dad ignored them. Perhaps they will soften in time and want to see you or correspond with you.In fact, you could even send each child some stationery and stamps to write back to you, or send your e-mail address. That way, if one wanted to contact you without their sibling's knowledge, he or she could.
I still feel that even though humans (the Borg) may cast us off, God never adandons us. Jesus died for each one of us on this earth. This thought still brings me comfort. Try to do things for others. This has a way of boosting your spirits and we can just but look around us and see that so many need us.

Did you ever think you'd stop being one of Jehovah's Witnesses?

i've come a long way in my thinking.
a very long way!

Nope. I remember in 1973, when we first started studying with the witnesses. We were invited to the meetings, and I told my husband ,"Don't you want to go and meet the people we will be living forever with?" He wasn't too keen on going.Of course, it was only going to be a short while till the big A. Stay alive 'till 75 was what we heard. Over thirty years later, and twenty of them my husband was an elder, we are now out, although not df'd. My husband is very bitter when he thinks of the years he spent in the Borg. I try to look to the future.

Why the number of "anointed" will never decrease...
by dozy injw theology suggests that the work of gathering in the "144,000" has all but ended , particularly since 1935 , and that the number will inevitably diminish to nil.
indeed , some jws maintain that all the anointed will have died and resurrected before armageddon arrives.
the watchtower claims that the fact (?

We are only talking about 144,000 people from the time of Christ. If the "initial sealing" was completed in 1935, how in the heck are the numbers at over 8,000 for so many years and still at that number even now?
I wondered that when I was sitting in the Kingdom Hall many times, but tried to push the "disobedient" thoughts out of my head. When the "new light" about the Nethinim came out, I began to realize that the oldsters at the WTS headquarters were going to die in this system and there would be no one to replace them if all the annointed were supposed to be so old now. Then LOW AND BEHOLD~ newer, annointed members of the governing body were appointed. They are comparatively young-maybe in their fifties--they just keep on a comin!!!!
Yes, I can see your point. How could so many of the annointed have fallen away and have to be replaced? Were they a greatly wicked lot? Or are the new ones just holding over their thinking from the past that they must go to heaven?
It certainly must be an embarassment for the WTS. On second thought, I don't think that after the United Nations thing that they can be embarrased. They just work on creative new explanations.

Didn't know you before, and sorry your circumstances are not great now, but it looks like you have a great attitude as you refer to them as a challenge. You may find change brings even better things for you in the future. Hang in there, and keep the family intact.

I am at a loss to try and understand how people can be so callous and call it love. Please rest assured that you are important to us here on this forum, and will be thought of often.

How Would You Refute JW's Claim Of Being The ONLY True Religion?
by minimus insince the new tract tells us "the end of false religion is near!
", jehovah's witnesses maintain that they alone are the only true religion.
how would you dispute that??

Vaccinations are like taking pus into your body/Oh, did we say that? They are O.K. now.
Organ transplants are cannibalism/ Oh, did we say that? They are O.K. now.
The people of Sodom will be resurrected./The people of Sodom will have NO resurrection/The people of Sodom will be resurrected.
1975 is a marked year. Stay alive until '75. We may confidently expect that the end will come within months, not years. Face it-if you are a young person you will never get old in this system/ We never said that.
We are in a separating workNOW. Oh, did we say that? Whether they are sheep or goats, the people are choosing by their reaction to the Kingdom message/ The separation work occurs at a later time, when Jesus returns.
The generation that was alive and at an age of understanding will by no means pass off the earthly scene until Armaggedon comes/ Generation has different meanings. Oh, did we say that? Jesus wasn't using this scripture to point to a particular group of people. It just meant the contemporaries at the time these things would occur.
The Watchtower did not commit spiritual fornication by associating with the UN. They only wanted access to the Library/ We do not join the YMCA for any reason because that would join us to an organization that is condemned by God. The WATCHTOWER SOCIETY DID NOT JOIN ITSELF TO THE UN, AND YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS!!!!!! IF YOU BELIEVE IT, YOU ARE NOT IN THE TRUE RELIGION.
IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT WE TELL YOU, WHEN WE TELL YOU, AND THEN NOT BELIEVE IT, WHEN WE TELL YOU NOT TO BELIEVE IT, YOU ARE NOT IN THE ONLY TRUE RELIGION.
Perhaps if people can see these things all at one time, they can begin to get the blinders off. Because the changes came at different times, and because the WTS prints so much literature the changes are sometimes buried in the fine print, they are difficult to see. However, who is going to tie the poor dub to the chair to make him see all these doctrinal flip flops and failed prophesies that the "apostate" wants to show him?
Good luck with that.
