  Will Embracing the Internet lead to Increased Growth for the Watchtower?

  more important than the reduction in the size of the new magazine is that the watchtower will be actively promoting its website and encouraging people use it to download magazines.

  my concern is that this has the potential to lead to an increase in growth for the watchtower.. the door-to-door preaching work has been one of the most inefficient means imaginable to gain converts, and done little more than tie up the time of active jws.

  now, by directing people to the internet, witnesses can spread their message at an alarming rate for little cost.. do you feel that this has the potential to lead to a surge in growth of jehovah's witnesses?

  For the Witnesses that have held back from using the internet because the Society has demonized it, they will embrace it to view the Society's literature online, and they too will come across information that will open some of their eyes.

  Ed: "Whao, Martha, what is this? When I touched the keys for the Watchtower Society website to gain some healthful spiritual food at the proper time, many non-authorized sites appeared along with the faithful slave's site. How can this be?"

  Martha: "Ed, can it be that Satan the Devil has infected our internet? No wonder the slave told us that the internet could be bad. We must not touch the unclean thing...but wait....there are so many.....how can it be? What could they possibly say against the Organization? Click on this one, Ed."

  my mother is the top queen when it comes to guilt trips.

  she recently mentioned to me,seemingly casually,"now,your brother has a talk this sunday.

  it would be so nice if you went with me to hear it.

  Dear empty,

  Please know this. You have talents and abilities of your own. I know what it is to stand in the shadow of a brother. He got the brains growing up, and I got...well, sucked into a cult.

  If you are not in school, please, work at getting in one, whether you have to get student loans, or any other means. Knowledge is freeing and will enhance your self-esteem to a large extent. You will gain pride in your accomplishments, and will not need to be compared to anyone. Let nothing stand in the way of you and an education.

  I wish I had someone to give me this advice years ago, but better late than never. I am sixty, and in college, and will graduate within a year. I can tell you that you will feel like your own person and that comments from anyone, including your mom's, will affect you soooo much less.

  And who set forth these "wrong premises" over and over, in the WT publications, speakers at Conventions, parading publishers who sold their homes, etc., and stating "Stay alive till 75?

  In other words, "You are stupid because you believed what we said, suckers!"

  wow, so far 4 out of 4 "worldly" people i've talked to about my situation, actually care.

  i mean ive been telling myself that most people would care.

  but i can just tell, by the way i feel shocked and surprised at their genuine interest to listen and help, that subconsciously, i still feel like no worldly person cares.

  Wow, when you wanted to get away, you really did! Hope you are able to formulate further goals for yourself. Sounds like soon you should be bilingual. That may help in getting a job in the future, also.

  i just wanted to say first off thank you all for the warm welcome and kind words.

  despite what i've been told by the wbts, i have a hard time believing people in the 'world' are by default bad just because they're non-jws.

  so thanks for the kindness.

  Welcome.

  Please be patient. You are young and have plenty of time. Do not make hasty decisions, especially one that could cause irreparable harm to your family ties if you change your mind later. You know that if a person becomes baptised and then later decides that he does not want to be a JW any more, friends and family may practice shunning.In my over thirty years "in" I saw this happen many times over, with devastating consequences.

  Why not concentrate on your education, and some things that you state you have an interest in, like music and writing? Develop your skills and talents along these lines...you don't know yet where this could lead you.

  It sounds as if you are unsure as to who you are deep inside... your personality is still forming at this time in your life. Allow yourself time to look into many avenues of knowledge. As to the Witnesses-you know that after baptism a person is not free to investigate, so do it now. Reseach and ask questions. Look up the history of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. And remember:

  "Better to have questions that I can't answer than answers I can't question."

  Perhaps, a mature, seasoned elder with the earthly hope is working in field service with a homeschooled, chubby 17 year old who has the heavenly calling. The youth will defer to the elder's experience, knowledge and seasoning, whereas the elder will respectfully recognize God's selection and spirit anointing of the young person.

  Or, perhaps this is where the suppositories could be used in earnest. Since the chubby 17 year old feels he knows everything, he would not willingly take a suppository. Perhaps the elders could insert them with the help of a boot to the rear.

  Maybe soon there will be "tongues as if of fire" on the heads of entire congregations.

  At any rate, Billy, I enjoyed the mental pictures!

  in previous years i had a number of ex jw issues and this site really helped both for support and to vent my anger.. hello to anyone who remembers me, though there looks many new ones now..

  Yes, I have read many of your posts.

  So glad that you've quit drinking and are in law school-what an accomplishment!

  Glad the anger has subsided, yes, coming here has been a healing for me, also. Not sure all my anger is gone......but has lessened quite a bit. I gave them more than thirty years of my life, don't want to waste any more time with unproductive anger. Not good for one's health.

  1914+100 Years

  i have been reading things for a while.

  in approximately 20 months it will be the year 2014. that year will be 1914+100 years.

  i don't know how the wts is going to get around that if the "present system" is still in existence.

  I am sixty. I have been "out" for a few years now, after spending more than thirty years as a JW. I remember when I got baptised in 1973, the emphasis was on 1975, and I breathed a sigh of relief that my husband and I were "in" just in time, before the "ark door closed." Ha! Yes, at that time, the ones that were at an age of understanding in 1914 would survive, then they changed it to born in 1914. Now, of course, the incomprehensible "overlapping generation" thingy. You have to wonder, just how rediculous can they get before more head for the back door?

  Nope, no thought for the future and retirement, which I am soon facing. Of course, NOW I am saving, but won't have enough, I am sure. I am in college, will be through in one more year (can only go part time-have to work full time).

  Why bother? I won't be able to find a new rewarding career at sixty, but I am determined to finish.
