Did u convert to JW because u were ignorant, arrogant or some other reason?

to believe the watchtower story takes a high degree of arrogance.

to think you were so special that god drew you to his organization for salvation.

but 6 billion other humans deserve destruction, is placing huge value on your own importance.. if you converted to being a jw do you think you were sucked in because you did not know the full story (ignorance) or was it because you really wanted to believe you were more special than everyone else (arrogance)?

The war in Vietnam was going on, and when we started talking to witnesses, were impressed by the brotherly love and not going to war. My husband nor I was arrogant; we truly thought we'd found the truth. We were willing to endure any persecution to truly serve the true God. I did know something about the Bible and could see all the answers there.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Organization was truly filled with caring people who wanted to uplift and help you? Wouldn't it be great if they just owned up to joining the United Nations as NGO? Wouldn't it be great if the Society admitted that they have problems with pedophiles just like every other organization? Wouldn't it be great if they announced that instead of leading all to live a life of guilt, of never measuring up, of fear of being disfellowshipped, of ever more and more rules, of blind obedience to elders, they concentrated on helping everyone to feel good about themselves (not arrogant) and concentrated on showing love to all mankind, instead of just themselves?

I did want to clear one thing up. I am Quandry. Yes, when I first posted, I was so upset that I did not check the correct spelling of the word. Had I done that, I would have seen that there was already a poster here--Quandary-- and chosen another alias. I suppose I should change mine. Don't want to be confused with another poster. Quandary is probably wondering, also.

My daughter could not go to meetings.she wanted to die. We spent hours and hours talking to her, telling her she had worth in God's eyes, that Jesus died for everyone, that no one has the right to condemn another human, not elders, not anyone. She had nightmares that she was killing herself, because she thought they wanted her to die. She tried, for awhile, just to please her dad and me. But eventually, and this is the long story part of it, when we could see that the men who did this to her were not going to be held accountable for what they said to her, we all quit going. The pain of sitting there, listening to someone on the platform saying "Elders are like a hiding place from the wind" was too much.

Dubs at my door ... what will I do?

for those that don't know, my wife and i moved away from our family and friends to fade away.

my mom and her new uber-elder husband with gb connections have been spreading it around where we are from that he is going to send a couple of elders to my house for spiritual "assistance".

so, everytime an unfamiliar car comes up my driveway a small wave of dread comes over me as the car gets closer.

Target-you are right. Sometimes it's the little things. I was on a Bible study one time, and we were going over the chapter in the Live Forever book on resurrection. When we got to the paragraph on the people in Sodom and Gomorrah, my book said the exact opposite from the sister next to me. "New Light" had come out!!!! I had the old book, stating that either the people in Sodom would not or would be resurrected (I can't remember which) an I had not even known that the book had been revised, with a new edition stating the opposite view. Now I know that this doctrine has been changed back and forth many times, but at the time I was horrified that the view could change so completely and quickly. I was still in many years past this, but a seed was planted, just as you said.

Rarely will jumping in with both feet and taking an opposing stance work. Being subtle, picking one thing to discuss, planting a seed. That may, over time, work.

I also have experienced the intense loneliness that you have described, as I went from having hundreds of "friends" one day to none the next. This, although I am not disfellowshipped. Funny how fast they drop you if they think that you may be having some difficulty in the congregation.

Ironclaw, read your bio.as well, and enjoyed it.

Blondie, you seem so knowledgeable. Bet you were looked to for many comments in the Hall.

So many of you to read about. Some names I do not see as regular posters anymore.

I am glad I have this opportunity to "meet" everyone.

I have not been able to really post "my story" yet, for as I said, I am not disfellowshipped. Aside from the fact that I am inactive, I am (I guess) considered in somewhat good standing. I was in the truth for over thirty years. Was loyal, loyal, loyal. If not for the way my child was treated-made to read a scripture that she would burn in the fire with the devil and his angels-lied to, berated, etc., I would still be in, never looking on any sites. This, although I had nagging, creeping doubts. Thought it was me and my sinful nature!!!!

I was just thinking-I'll bet neither W.T. magazine nor any other publication will acknowledge receipt of this grant money or thank the donor publicly. But the Society will publish how much they did for the hurricane relief.

i believe i have mentioned before, i works w/ a lunatic jw.

this is the same woman who will not go by a shorter version of her name because as she told me in front of some fellow co-workers once i found the truth, i put on the new personality and the fruitages of the spirit, so i go by my full name now.

I actually have it this time. And you don't have to tread water. Some years ago, when my daughter was small but in school, there was going to be a party with a pinata. I can't put the tilde on the n but you know what it is I'm sure-the kids break the paper, and candy comes out. Well, like a wonderful, careful witness that I was, I researched pinatas in the bound volumes. The gist was that they were originally pagan, likely used to celebrate Christmas...bad...bad...So I would not let my daughter go near one. If you look now , there has been "new light" concerning pinatas.The official position has changed. Since NOW, no one associates it with pagan worship, it is O.K. Why not use the same argument for birthdays? I bet she could not explain how it is different.

I would definetely handle her with kid gloves, but try to placate her. If you come on strong, she will feel persecuted and argue back. You are a lawyer. Ask her questions she can't answer. Use logic. Perhaps she sincerely feels duty bound to "help" you. People can change. I know I did. Let us know how things are going.

LDH- I am speechless. Why would the Watchtower Society solicit funds from a wordly organization? Aren't they from Satan and are all going to be fireballed soon? Did they tell them that after they took the money??????

Oh Dear...College is Bad?

I have just finished reading your biography. I cannot imagine that after all the things you have accomplished in your young life, many of them obviously simultaneously, you would have any trouble at all dealing with your co-worker!!!! I'm sure something will come to you!!!
