What is love? Does it allow for false biblical teachings?
Yes, exactly. Debator is right.
Love doesn't allow for false Biblical teachings like the generation doctrine...everything JWs teach they say comes from the Bible...yet are constantly changing it. Then there are the other teachings that have come and gone, such as the "vaccinations are like taking pus into the body" and "the 'ancient worthies' will be resurrected in 1925 and live at Beth Sarim" and of course, the flip-flops of the poor folks in Sodom and Gomorrah....are they false/true/false/true?
Good catch, Debator.

Unbelievable!! Family member at my leasing office!
by IronHill inok...i need to vent.
i just finished writing a letter to my leasing office in regards to my own cousin.
she is a jw of course, and has lately been less than courteous with us because we are d'ad and i have honestly had enough!

Yes, Scully's letter is more businesslike, and addresses the point quite succinctly. There is no need to mention that this employee is your cousin.
You are deserving of respectful treatment just like any other tennant.
I hope at the very least she gets a talking to....at which point she'll probably try to explain the JW viewpoint and how you are apostate...which will sound crazy to the boss!

Help with irrefutable arguments- creating dissonance
by confliction inhello- i'm arguing with my parents now... well, call it debating.
i'm trying to give them a question they'll actually think about- something that will make them want to do more research.
a question (or questions), that if right, will make them reconsider whether they are in the "truth".... .
-
Quandry
Now they're encouraging me to do "research", which involves only learning things through WT publications.
Actually, this is the perfect scenario for you. They don't want to take your word, but view the WTS as the bastian of truth. Here is a possibility....Look up information in older WT magazines, but while you are doing it find some things that contradict. Maybe go to Freeminds.org. and look under changes.
Then RESPECTFULLY say something like, "While looking up ___ I came accross this....why has the WTS changed its view on the resurrection of those in Sodom and Gomorrah over and over again?" Or, "Did you know that at one time the WTS said that having an organ transplant was like cannibalization?" or "Why did the WTS say at one time that taking a vaccination was like taking pus into the body? It seems they changed the doctrine when they wanted to travel overseas and had to have them. Why did they do that?"
Please feed this a little at a time, or the "arguing" is going to get old to your parents. Allow them plenty of time to answer your questions. After all...they told you to do the research.

Well, it's a tough job market right now.
Use diplomacy....how about sending the boss "updates on progress, with requests for further information" as you are working on projects? Ask for the specific date work is expected to be completed, etc.
Some places don't have good communication. This is an area where your talents can shine. You can become better informed while at the same time subtlely instructing your workplace on how to have better communication.

1. Non-blacks- you simply cannot say the n-word period. Chris Rock does a really funny bit on this. Honestly, we shouldn't say it either but it's our choice.
2. Do not touch a black woman's hair. That is likely to result in broken fingers.
3. Do not touch black people's food. If we offer you food, please do not attempt to eat it with the utensil you've already been using.
4. What I've noticed on this board- monkey references. With the racist history of likening blacks to monkeys, dont ever do that. I know that alot of men like monkeys and find them fun, but if you compare a monkey to someone who happens to be black, things can get ugly pretty darn quick.
Thanks for the information. I think I have studied the list to satisfaction. I do wonder, however....
1. Why is this something anyone would do? White people don't call each other names such as "cracker, or white bread." I guess it doesn't have the same impact, but why would two black people call each other something that is considered derogatory when it is being applied to both? I have absolutely never understood this at all. I work in an elementary school and have observed children calling each other this...yes, both black. (I suppose I must admit that there is a derogatory term white people use...white trash, and I am guilty of saying this...not to their face, of course)
2. Go ahead and touch mine...but I use hairspray and so there won't be any getting to the roots....I wasn't aware of this, but I have observed little black girls touching white little girl's hair sometimes. Is it considered O.K. for black children but not for whites? By the way, I don't touch any adult's hair...this is an invasion of their personal space.
3. Please don't touch white people's food either-unless it is your spouse...especially with the utensil you've been using....good manners and good health dictate this for all people, I would think.
4. I have been aware of this one, but a reminder is good...Once many years ago, at work, a black woman said something a white woman considered funny, and she said, "Oh, you monkey.." Wow, I found out then what kind of a nerve it struck. The white woman had no clue...she just was using the word as in "silly like a monkey." I'm sure she will never say it again!

I think I'll have to talk to her about all of this. I'm still so scared. I know it seems really stupid, but I have lived with so much fear in my life. Afraid of my parents, afraid of elders, afraid of girls, afraid of God. Afraid of my true self, even. Suppressed it every time, that true self. As I once wrote about it in a story, it said to me, "Deny the truth again, my friend. But just like me, it comes back, more real than ever."
It's just...this is going to be so messy if we part ways. But once it's over, my life would be a whole heck of a lot easier. ... With what she's said, really....is it reasonable to keep working on a patient who has been declared dead
It sounds like you still are not your own person. You have tried so hard to be what everyone else wants you to be. My advice is to:
1. Go back to school if you don't have a college degree. Learn critical thinking, and feel better about yourself by gaining knowledge.
2. Get a hobby or start volunteering at a worthy organization. Feel better about yourself. Meet new people. Someone may be out there who will love you for you.
3. It's called beating a dead horse. Alot of time is wasted, and it's not effective. You also don't need to explain things to the dead horse--it isn't interested.
4. Know that it all will hurt. But once you create some goals for yourself--what you'd like to accomplish, you will no longer just live in fear but will be your own person and know what direction to go!

Of No Importance
by compound complex inrecent happenings close to home bewilder me by day, terrify me by night.
i am immersed in the profound waters of doubt and, sometimes, despair, as i struggle swimmingly to a far off shore that itself is encased in black mist.. yet, the shroud of fog does rise.
i am able to see outward, through the windows to my soul.

As for imagination, I dare say you are rich with it!

Saddening and Inspiring...
by IronHill inok, so we received our new copy of crisis of conscience (since my previous copy was lent out and never returned) and me and the wifey have been reading it together for the past couple nights.
i have read the book before, and know the shock felt when you read about certain things in the organization.
she admits to having lingering thoughts and feelings of guilt for leaving perhaps the only true religion.

It is great that you have each other.
It is theraputic to talk, and talk, and talk.
Take things slow. It is hard to digest all at once. I remember the range of emotions, also. Mainly the great sadness, as snowbid said.

The December 31, 1924 Golden Age magazine
by cabasilas inrecently, i obtained some pdf copies of old golden age magazines.
i haven't had much time to read these but i just came across the december 31, 1924 issue.
i had heard the golden age was a bit odd...this confirms it.

Very interesting find. Thanks for sharing. Yes, it should be mandatory reading for anyone before baptism...well, I guess it might be lost on the 7 or 8 year olds they are currently dunking, but an adult MIGHT connect the dots.
I can't cut and paste any of it but the table of contents is sufficient to prove that the WTS taught that the PRESENCE of Christ began in 1874-not 1914.
Boy, oh boy, this magazine is chock full of goodies, such as Napoleon fulfilling scriptures, ice caps on Mars, and of course that the pyramid in Egypt proves the year 1914 is important in Bible chronology. It also mentions that 1925 is important but I don't think it elaborates.
