Noah's rectangular Ark
by vomit insomething from when i was younger; i always was forced to believe that noahs ark was rectangular, since it was in the bible stories and other publications that way.
but in any other religious books the ark always had at least a bit of a curved stern and a v or u shaped hull.
a v or u shaped hull with ribs is far stronger, timber efficient, hydrodynamic and can take a few hits.

From the Talk Origins website - http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-noahs-ark.html
"[T]he whole story can be dismissed as a series of supernatural miracles. There is no way to contradict such an argument. However, one must wonder about a God who reportedly does one thing and then arranges every bit of evidence to make it look like something else happened. It's entirely possible that a global flood occurred 4000 years ago or even last Thursday, and that God subsequently erased all the evidence, including our memories of it. But even if such stories are true, what's the point?
"1. Building the Ark
"Wood is not the best material for shipbuilding. It is not enough that a ship be built to hold together; it must also be sturdy enough that the changing stresses don't open gaps in its hull. Wood is simply not strong enough to prevent separation between the joints, especially in the heavy seas that the Ark would have encountered. The longest wooden ships in modern seas are about 300 feet, and these require reinforcing with iron straps and leak so badly they must be constantly pumped. The ark was 450 feet long [ Gen. 6:15]. Could an ark that size be made seaworthy?"
I guess that the real question is not whether it was round or square, but whether it was at all.

When I was a Witness, I personally believed, though never expressed, that God was a great delegator of tasks. I wondered why he had so many angels if He Himself personally did everything. I concluded that He simply set some limits and let the 'angels' have a hand in creating and trying out different forms of life. I figured that all the extinct animals in the fossil record were basically experimental attempts by angels who were learning to make biological organisms and ecosystems. God, who knows all, didn't have to learn anything, but the angels did. So, from that point of view, yes, I imagined that even Satan, when he was still 'good', had a hand in creating things on earth.
Now, however, I understand Universal Common Descent and genetic algorhythms and other aspects of the Theory of Evolution.

Is anyone under 18 years of age capable of making a legally binding guarantee or promise?
If not, then what actually is the purpose of the Pledge in public schools? Is it an element of Fascist indoctrination?
I never liked the Pledge as a JW, and I still don't like it.

You and I - may kill ourselves
You and I - go straight to hell
Where they have barbeque and beer
Better than they do up here
And you know all the words to the songs
Yeah - we smoke cigarettes
We dance with the dead
They're soft to the touch
We drink way too much
And darling, I think you'll like it here
You might like it here

First computer? It was a borrowed Sinclair ZX80 if I remember correctly which I used on my parents black and white TV.
Oh! My first computer! I bought a TI99/4A with a cassette tape deck and a B/W TV. That was a lot of money for a fifteen year old! I don't recall searching for anything on it, though!

There is a party.
Everyone is there.
Everyone will leave
at exactly the same time.
It's hard to imagine
that nothing at all
could be so exciting
could be so much fun.
Heaven, heaven is a place
A place where nothing
nothing ever happens.
Heaven, heaven is a place
A place where nothing
nothing ever happens.

--> if you believe the Bible. <-->Well, there you are. Yes and No. It is too complicated a subject to get into, but let me point out that the 'book' we call the Bible is a compilation of sometimes heavily edited older compositions. I won't go into an explanation of Higher Criticism, but I can recommend a book that does a good job of explaining the current state of scholarship in this area: Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard E. Friedman.
Another book that I read is Is It God's Word? by Joseph Wheless available for free online at infidels.org. It is an old and flawed book by an obviously biased author, yet it still manages to make the point about the kind of god Jehovah/Yahveh Elohim really is and the kind of changes that have occurred to "true" religion over the last four thousand years. In my opinion, it gets good starting in the second chapter. Read and take with a grain of salt if you will. We're not in the Organization anymore! Believe what you want. And good luck!

Warlock, I read the one about your cousin and also the one about the key. Personally, I do believe you. I think it is something 'other' than human. I have heard similar things from people that I personally know/knew face to face. It can't just be all in one's mind, though our perceptions certainly play a part, like Brigid said.
Why do some have negative experiences that generate fear, while others, like Brigid, apparently have neutral or even beneficial experiences?
If I remember correctly, Warlock, you said that a spirit/entity that you contacted told you that god's name is Jehovah, right? I really hope that 'it' was pulling your leg, because Jehovah has to be the most murderous and insecure being that I have ever read about (just from reading the Bible).
