I recite incantations and astral project very nasty thoughts in their direction. Oh, and I have earplugs, nice over-the-ear head phones, and a box fan.

Noisy Neighbours - what do you do?!
by Crumpet inokay so here is the scenario:.
i finally acquaint myself with the "floating ship" that is my four poster bed about 1.30 am, finish watching a favourite lullaby horror movie - wolf creek and close my eyes.. minutes later a door slams right next to my ear and then another and what sounds like a gaggle of adolescent girls (reminiscent of the current manless debacle that is big brother uk this year) screams their way into the flat next door at high volume.
they are talking so loud i can hear every inane word they say.

Mincan the spy...
by Mincan inhaha!
yesterday i suggested subtly that i go with my mother and step-dad to their special meeting today.
for all you who don't know what that is, it's like the one day special assembly but even more "special", only certain congregations get to go each year, and it's specifically just for members, not really open to outsiders, and it usually contains "important information" for them on updates and the like.

Hey Mincan,
Sorry to say, I think you'll be disappointed. Having been to meetings, assemblies, special talks, etc. for all my childhood and adult life, there is never anything new. Oh, sure, they change some superficial things around a bit and alter some doctrine, but it always comes down to: the end is near, go to meetings, do your personal study, be regular preaching door to door, conduct Bible studies, and make donations. What is more, you may be giving your parents false hope that you are willing to go back. It looks like it is hard enough on your mom as it is. Please don't make it harder on your parents. We know it's not the "Truth", but they still take it seriously. Anyway, just a suggestion. Best of luck.

This Post Will Offend Current JWs: Annie Lennox should be avoided
by mtsgrad inthe language is leaving me.

I always liked Annie Lennox's music. Never heard anything bad about her from other dubs.
Now, John Denver was a whole different story. All the dubs I knew avoided John Denver's music because he reportedly hated Witnesses.
I liked Stevie Nicks, but someone said that she was a witch.
A young dub hassled me about my album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts by David Byrne and Brian Eno. One track called "The Jezebel Spirit" contains a recording of an exorcism.
When I was a teen, my mom came into the room and heard me playing "Echos" from Pink Floyd's Meddle. It has some really weird guitar based sound effects. She thought it sounded "demonic."

Why did you leave the org?
by A-Team inwere you dfed, did you find out some lies about the org?.
what was the last straw?

Hi A&W,
Welcome to the forum. And welcome to the rest of your life! Once you know the truth about the "Truth," there's no way you can dedicate your life to the Watchtower Society. I wonder, have you had a chance yet to read the book Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz? Very important! Hope you'll stick around. There are a lot of great people here to turn to for support.
One little suggestion. On the internet, typing in all capital letters is the equivalent of shouting. But, don't worry, we're not upset about that.

An Elder coming for a visit!
by Mincan ini went back home for the transition period from april to september (and thus college).
they apparently told the freakin' p.o.
i wouldn't like a visit but obviously he has no intention of following someone's wishes.

Hey Mincan,
You shouldn't have to hide or avoid this guy, especially on your own turf. Frankly, you don't have to say anything to him but "no, thank you". If it was me, I'd be polite for my parent's sake. Perhaps, just to amuse yourself, you could listen to what he has to say. Who knows, he might really put his foot in his mouth.
You have a pm.

My "last straw" was a busy body book study conductor. It got to the point I had to make up excuses as to why I had missed a meeting or service. Sure, I already knew by then that it wasn't the Truth, but I could have stayed on for social reasons if the WTS didn't expect production quotas from Witnesses. So, I got off the theocratic treadmill. Yes, I'm just lazy.

On the power of Wishful Thinking
by PrimateDave inhere's an interesting article that shows the power of wishful thinking.... .
"bush administration announces effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through 'wishful thinking'".
in a significant nod toward pro-environment politics, the bush administration yesterday announced a major initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging everybody to engage in "wishful thinking" to cut emissions without harming the economy.

"Wishing for change is far more important than actually cutting greenhouse emissions," Bush said in a prepared statement. "We urge all Americans to take up Wishful Thinking to lower CO2 emissions and, if necessary, to even use up their birthday wishes in this national effort."

What does the term "borg" mean?
by mtsgrad inwhat does the term "borg" mean?
i have heard it so many times here!.
mtsgrad.

From the Wikipedia:
The Borg are a fictional race of cyborgs in the Star Trek universe, first introduced in the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series. They are characterized by relentless pursuit of targets for assimilation, their collective consciousness that enables rapid adaptability to almost any defense, and the ability to continue functioning properly despite seemingly devastating blows. They have become a powerful symbol in popular culture for any juggernaut against whom "resistance is futile."
Since Witnesses are fond of calling themselves the "Organization", its shortened form being "Org", some of us like to jokingly refer to them as if they were like the Borg in the Star Trek TV series. At least that's my take on it.

I think Crisis of Conscience is required reading if she's doing a research paper.
