i'm awed by your calm and rational demeanors and your penchant for keeping your composures when faced with the heckling and willfully ignorant spirits that do contaminate the peace from time to time.
thanks.
how do you keep your cool amidst such blatant baiting and tomfoolery?
Because I know I'm right.

my texting prowess during the meeting continue to improve...mostly during wt study which i can totally tune out....the talk was actually good....but the best part.....i got to go out to lunch with wife and 8 old friends and knock back a few brews!....ones who have never shunned me anyway so the true friends...true, i can go out with them at other times, but it was nice being with my wife and hangin out after da meetin.
i also brought some other reading material in the back of my bible....hey, i might be able to do this a couiple of times a month, and my wife knows 100% now i do not believe the bible is inspired, i do not believe in an active spirit world, and that we do not have the truth, and that the fds may be sincere, but do not have a clue what the bible means and are not led by holy spit!.....................oompa.
I used to take a Palm computer with ebooks in it to read at the meetings. It was small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. Time flies when you're reading H. P. Lovecraft.
i have some great neighbors...spanish on both sides of me, and down the street.
their homes are very nice and the yards are kept up....but there is the strangest thing.
they love to put big wooden posts in the middle of their beautiful lawns with the most hideous kmart type night lighting fixtures you have ever scene.
Well, I live in Puerto Rico. There are plenty of street lights of the normal kind, but no posts of a nature like what you describe. In my experience, though, Puertoricans who live stateside tend to comport themselves a bit differently than islanders. Perhaps you could just ask them?
Dave
i finished rereading bart ehrman's misquoting jesus and found that it is a pretty good book.. i just checked out another by him, lost christianities, and am just beginning to read that.. what other books might you suggest to someone interested in topics such as: the history of the bible, the history of religion and christianity and even further reading on textual criticism?.
thanks.

Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard Friedman
jws & atheists - great (cultic) minds think alike.
in the jehovahs witness religion, there is a ceremony known in those circles as the memorial of christs death, or just the memorial for short.
it is claimed and believed among members that jehovahs witnesses observe the exact same ceremony that is more widely known as the lords supper among christians.
And the winner is...
Undercover!

I would love to believe in the existence of God.
Unfortunately, the possession and use of mind altering substances is illegal where I live.

P.S. Now accepting donations for the construction of our local Atheist Temple (clothing optional , god prohibited ).
We are not a cult!
the dodo bird maybe?.
Neanderthals.
according to my book of holy fables (gen 5:27), noah's greatgrandpa methuselah died aged 969 years, in the exact same year noah floated away to a damp new world in a box full of tame animals.
but the bible does not say that he was among those who died in the flood.. according to bible mathmatics, adam was alive when methuselah was born making methuselah the only human link between adam and noah.. so what happened to poor old methuselah?
did jehovah, out of respect, wait till the old boy carked it before having it piss down on the rest of humanity?
According to divine chronology (tm), old man Methuselah was alive during the year long flood. Old sailors never die, they just smell that way.
It might explain who ate that dove Noah sent out the last time, the one that didn't come back.

campos: the atheist's dilemmaby paul camposwhy is stanley fish so much smarter than richard dawkins?
that question occurred to me last week, while attending a lecture at which fish, the well-known literary and legal theorist, did the thing he always does, which is to make the following point over and over again:.
"no believer will find his faith shaken by evidence that is evidence only in the light of assumptions he does not share and considers flatly wrong.".
lol! I didn't realize this thread was still alive.
Guys (and gals), there is no winning this argument!
Fortunately for us atheists, there is no divine retribution for our point of view.
Let the believers imagine their alien nanobots and 70 million year old human foot prints. ;)
