I posted a comment on that article a while back. Last time I had looked someone had spammed the comment section. It just occurred to me that I hardly ever read the magazines even when I was still a Witness. They were tedious and dull just like the rest of the WTS publications.

by PrimateDave inmilah, periah, and messisa: these are the different kinds of circumcision as practiced historically in judaism.
this post is not meant to debate the issue of infant circumcision or the issue of whether health benefits can be derived from this practice.

I always use Firefox. So, I had to crank up the ol IE to see what you're talking about. Seems like you're a bona fide thread killer SBC!
Anyway, I have no idea why your posts become invisible in IE. Maybe you have a browser plug in that inserts some html code Micro$oft doesn't like?

MJNM, I have a video by Mike Anderson called "Healing Cancer From the Inside Out." It talks about alternative cancer treatments, including the Max Gerson therapy which uses coffee enemas. It has information from The China Study as well. The book itself doesn't deal with alternative therapies, unless one calls "eating a diet based on whole plant foods" some kind of alternative therapy. In fact Dr. Campbell does not recommend taking manufactured supplements or "magic bullet" foods like apricot seeds. The book also exposes the influence of the major food and pharmaceutical industries on public policies in the United States. These official policies determine what is supposedly "healthy" food and influence Federal money spent on things like school lunches. By all means, be an informed consumer of modern medicine. Use what works, but get a second or third opinion, and make use of the best of modern medicine.

Interesting topic! Just heard of the China Study the other day - acquaintance swears by it; he's doing the coffee enemas etc. with excellent results! (should have been dead by now)
Coffee enemas are not mentioned at all in The China Study.

Only one sure thing: We are all going to die someday. If you have cancer, you may die sooner rather than later. Prevention, when possible, is more effective than most cures, and often less costly. There is no magic bullet to good health. All the apricot seeds in the world won't fix a bad diet, lifestyle, or genetics.
The China Study - T. Colin Campbell (a bit of an academic read but an excellent book)
I agree. Fine book with well researched material.

I will only comment to say that the Watchtower Society has a strong vested interest in supporting the existence of so-called spirit creatures, specifically with respects to those in the Bible. Their premise is their conclusion, so there is no room for skepticism or debate. Why? To do so would mean a loss of control of the minds of those who financially support the organization. Their very survival as a corporate entity requires that they say whatever it takes to keep membership. In the face of modern science, archeology, and good Biblical Scholarship, they are being pushed into ever more dogmatic assertions based on a collection of scriptures in the Bible, some of which get taken out of context to support increasingly improbable doctrine (like "this generation").
Stories about demigods, giants, and a cataclysmic flood are found in ancient mythologies worldwide. For example, the Akkadian Epic of Gilgamesh mentions a flood, a ship, and survivors. Gilgamesh himself was described as a lustful, violent demigod, or part god, part man. Aztec mythology tells of an ancient world inhabited by giants and of a great deluge. Norse legend describes a race of giants and a wise man named Bergelmir who constructed a large boat and saved himself and his wife. The combined testimony of all such legends corroborates the Bible's testimony that all humans have descended from the survivors of a deluge that destroyed an ancient wicked world.
So, we're to believe other ancient legends support the truth of the Bible? How preposterous! They are just myths, and so is the Bible. The two flood accounts in Genesis were edited together after the Babylonian exile. They are even contradictory to each other, but most people hardly notice, just as they fail to notice many of the other edits in the Pentateuch. Do yourself a favor and read Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard Friedman. I really don't feel like going into a detailed explanation. If you can't be troubled to read at least that book, then that's all there is to it.

Help with irrefutable arguments- creating dissonance
by confliction inhello- i'm arguing with my parents now... well, call it debating.
i'm trying to give them a question they'll actually think about- something that will make them want to do more research.
a question (or questions), that if right, will make them reconsider whether they are in the "truth".... .

lol, Scully! And just how many of those devout Witnesses in your congregation actually devoted all that time they saved to spiritual pursuits? Hey, I'm not doubting you. I just think they were making up excuses for their own lazy butts.
For what it's worth there can be big differences within families. I have one cousin who is seriously overweight, and so is his wife and son. However, his younger brother who is my age runs cross country. Their father died of obesity related disease. Apparently it makes no difference in their congregations either way. One can be fit or obese and still be an elder or pioneer.
Anyway, they live in the DC area on the east coast. I'm from an east coast state too. The cultural and possibly ethnic make up of an individual congregation or circuit could affect their attitudes toward exercise. I just don't think it's fair to lay blame at the feet of the GB for this. They have enough to answer for already.
